Hi girls,

Seeing as there a few groups going on I thought it would be easier to make one group that we can all share our thoughts, experiences and Monitored cycles with FA?

PCOS, 5 rounds of Clomid. 1 round of Letrozole 5mg & metformin
Puregon injections Aug & sep 2013
March 2013 Angel Baby

When is it going to happen for us?

Hi Brownie,
If this clomid cycle is a bust we will be doing private IUI with OFS. They are looking to our source the clinic and FA may take them over - just have to wait and see.

Always good to get heaps of info. Actually a close friend has been throught IUI so time to start asking questions.

Icecream I was hoping you would join in

How many cycles on clomid did you do?

I did 5 and now have moved onto taking metformin to help with pcos and letrozole from tomorrow cd3 to cd7. I wished I had have gotten a bit firmer with how I wanted to proceed. I really got annoyed last week when no one called me back etc about changing drugs I just want it to work like we all do. After numerous emails, and discussions finally I have gotten somewhere lol

What is OFS?
That is good to have a friend go through the same thing, will make asking questions etc easy and you will get a true answer

Hi Brownie,
Just thought I would give my feedback on monitored cycles.... I did about 8 monitored clomid cycles with FA. In my opinion which I voiced regularly with FA they were getting my dates wrong, with all the bloods and scans, I felt they were telling me to try based on a standard cycle and always missing OV. They never really listened... I had been temping for years so knew I OV'd on day 17.
They eventually agreed to an unmonitored cycle, so we decided to go by my dates rather than theirs, and bingo got the BFP.... unfortunatley it didn't end well, but I guess what I am saying is trust your instincts and stick to your guns to get the answers you need!

Thanks Monkeys! I have had 5 monitored cycles with them and the most recent cycle felt very un-monitored.
I went for a bloods test on a Tuesday, went for a scan on the Thursday they never said if I was "fertile" then had bloods done on the Friday never got called to say things were heating up. I did a opk and it was positive so made sure we BD'd that night etc. Then went in on the Saturday and they said ohhh the big follicle has gone you have ovulated. Felt like a waste of a 42 day cycle and money!!
That's why this time im firm in what I want with treatment etc.

That is good you got a bfp on unmonitored cycle but very sad how it ended :(

How are you now? where are you at?

Hey Brownie,
I was intrigued by metformin and googled it yesterday.

OFS is Otago Fertility Services as I am in Dunedin.

I am interested to hear about all this monitoring I got pill script and 2 blood tests and that was it. Round two I had pills and emailed and asked about bloods and again just getting CD12 and 21. I have a booklet on IUI and for next cycle and it is much more monitored. We have been told it is $800 so will give that two shots before our next appointment in Nov where we discuss IVF as we will be eligable for it March next year but not sure of the wait times in Dunedin.

I temp myself and do opks too so do think we time it okay. It will be interesting next cycle to learn a bit more about my body (if we need it!)

hey Icecream! You have PCOS too don't you? Maybe its worth a go in asking about it too!
Ohh lol sorry blonde moment haha!
All of my rounds monitored were blood tests and scans and then they say when to BD!
Its $295 per cycle..

When do you start your IUI? That is exciting!

Yes I have PCOS and will ask about that next time I am in.

CD9 at the minute and still hope it will happen. IUI cycle should start around 11 Aug as this cycle was normal - ovulation CD14 and was 30 days.
I don't think Dunedin does weekends so if it falls on a weekend it will be a roll over to next month.

Hi ladies, hope you odn't mind me popping in here. Brownie, it's interesting what you say about your monitored cycles. I have just dont three rounds of Clomid and this last one I got my BFP, as you already know didn't end well, but it was the one cycle I thought to BD at a different time to what FA said cause I think they were missing it. I would have BT say on a Sun, scan on Mon or Tues and they would text me to say good time for BD is next 4 days.. which usually took me to Friday, but I think I didn't OV till Sun/Mon and just think this last time BD'ing closer to when "I thought" OV was, may have done the trick. I say trust your instincts aswell ladies. I have kinda felt like at $295 a cycle more should be done though. It feels like to me, they have given me three rounds, and just left me to it - see what happens kind of thing. No appointments with the specialist in between... only now that I've had my 4th early MC, and clomid hasn't worked.

I am very interested to know how my next appointment with them is going to go on Thursday? What will be next? Just hoping for the price we pay them, that it's all going to eventually be worth it!

Hey Storm!
Im hearing you! Your experience hits mine on the head!
I hope they come up with a plan for you for your next round. I would tell them you don't want to do clomid anymore and move onto something else. With my scan last cycle my Ut lining had thinned out a lot. And that is from the clomid. Ask about letrozole? Or progesterone? I really hope they can sort it out.
My FA clinic seem to be really good so far and im cd3 lol. I think voicing my opinion on being left in the dark and being upset that nothings working while be "monitored" may have worked!
Keep pushing for answers and new treatments!

Hope you are doing? or as ok as you can be? x

Thanks Brownie, I will definately be pushing for something else to be done this time. They can't really plam it off too much now that this has happened 4 times!
Good on you for making yourself heard. What are you doing now to help your UT lining? Every scan I went to they said I had a nice thick lining which makes this more confusing!

I'm trying to do ok. Just really really down. Have major moments of sadness and am trying to be a bit more upbeat at work - and it's not easy. Had a great chat to my boss today (I've known her for a long time, and she's aware of our struggles) and she made a good point by saying, that I should start to "see my next baby" rather then the process of getting it. Visualise myself surrounded by my DD and a new bubba, little parts of having a baby again. Instead of always visualising and always thinking about the process and whether it will happen or not, put visuals in my head of what my baby will look like etc rather than thinking all the time that it's not going to happen - the mind is a powerful thing.

She has a friend that once a long time ago was diagnosed with cancer at 17 and she decided not to have treatment, and went overseas on a trip and kept "visualising" herself digging her cancer out of her body, visualising herself old and grown. Her cancer went away and has never come back - she's now in her late 40's! That story really inspired me to maybe start having a different mind set about this all.

So I'm going to try be a bit more positive.... try really hard LOL

hey Storm, They said it will thicken in time. It slowly started to thicken at my last scan but could have been better!

Im glad your trying to be ok and that you have a supportive boss. I work for our family business so im lucky that its flexible and supportive.

Take each day as it comes storm. I like what you said about seeing your next baby! I may do the same :)
