I have a feeling we may end up going down the Clomid track given my history, i have a few kgs which i know i need to shed but was wondering if they have a BMI you need to be under etc or any other criteria that may effect my options given i could loose a few kgs?

Hi Mumma2be, not that I'm aware of. My BMI is around 40 and I was prescribed clomid. The fertility specialist recommended I lose weight (for conception purposes) but didn't mention my weight other than that.

Hopefully you don't need the clomid and get a nice surprise soon

Don't mind at all, yes I am in Auckland. We went through Fertility Associates in Greenlane. My specialist was Sunil Pillay.

Thank you so much frankie, its all new to me and im only just starting to investigate how to get the ball rolling. I dont really have a GP i see as i dont get sick often so i think i might just self refer to a fertility clinic. I have done a bit of reading and it says that if your BMI is over 32 you dont get funding, im happy to pay though. I feel nervous about going and being told i need to lose weight and thats all that will be discussed. My 1st child was no problem to conceive but its been over a year TTC this time and my cycle is all over the place and i have a short luteal phase.

Definitely self refer, the GP doesn't do much in my experience other than tell you to wait which is super frustrating in my opinion!! Can only speak for my specialist but he didn't make a big deal about my weight at all. Good luck

I think he'd have to, because they will want to obtain a medical history for him. He will have to do a semen sample at some point as well (but he could do that at home and you could take it in) especially if you have no obvious causing factors (e.g PCOS, endometriosis etc).

Hi, I had my appointment at the hospital last week and was given clomid. My bmi was 28 and they said it's ok but to try and make sure it doesn't go any higher as over 32 and they can't prescribe it. However that might just be our hospital. Hope this is helpful
