Topic: Nappy rash after using cloth nappy Posted: 04 July 2011 at 3:56pm |
Hi, I was using the cloth nappy for my baby when he was days old, but had to switch to disposable at 6 weeks old when he went to the daycare since they won't allow cloth nappy. Now he is 14 months old, and I've decided to put him back on cloth nappy during weekend. Have tried 2 weekends now and he always have nappy rash after using cloth nappy. And yesterday, he had really bad nappy rash when I didn't know that he had done a poo. But then, with disposables, he has never had nappy rash even when he had a poo diaper left unchanged for a while (if I didn't know that he pooed). I don't know what caused it, could be his poo, could be the cloth nappy, could be the detergent, and could be because of the change from disposable to cloth nappy? I use BumGenius pocket nappy with microfibre insert (and bamboo inserts) for night time, he sleeps through the night, so he will have his nappy on for about 12 hours. For daytime, I use prefold system with microfleece liner to keep him dry, and change him every 3 hours. Detergent is Persil Sensitive, and also apply some Curash powder on him. I am very sad that by using the cloth nappy has caused such bad nappy rash on him, and wonder whether I should just use back disposables? Any ladies out there having the same problem and what do you do? Can his skin get used to the cloth nappy later on?

Try changing him sooner than 3 hours an also try a different washing powder. Persil sensitive is not good for cloth naps as it has enzymes. I recommend Rockin Green. You can get it from Tweedle, mothers instinct, cheeky cherubs and Itti Bitti.

I agree, try changing him earlier and change your laundry powder. I would do a strip wash then go from there. Rockin green is good to strip and wash with but I only have it to do the strip washes and I just use tea tree oil for regular washing

Thanks ladies. I will do that. :) I managed to read up some other post about the rash here and would also change the flushable liner to Bambino Mio's in case this is also the cause. I've strip washed all the nappies again yesterday, and will get the GroVia magic stick. Hopefully these would solve the rash problems.

I was going to say it might be the microfleece, apparently some bubs react to that.

oh! microfleece too? thought that was supposed to keep him dry and not have nappy rash. well, I guess I just have to experiment different combination and see what really causes it. Really hope that I can go back to cloth nappy with him, and I've just ordered some Bitti Tutto too!

I dont know - i have heard from people that microfleece is not good against babies bums but i've never had a problem with it and i imagine if you had used them before he went to daycare without a problem its probably not that. Though i have the peapods bambino liners and they are pretty good though i fold them in half to fit in my ittis. If he is teething or sick or anything it might be related to that as well...

Bowie- your probably thinking of MicroFIBRE which is the inserts, MicroFLEECE is the stay dry liner in pocket nappies and most babies dont react to it however some do.
