theres so many things for nits theese days and ways to keep them away, has anyone tried any that actually work???
a friend of mine had a tea tree spray she would spray in her girls hair but that didnt work??

Nits are the devil........ nothing but conditioner and a nit comb work, oh and time to do it over and over again, then maintanance combing once a week unless she spot them again then its back to daily until clear.
Most things kill them for a while then they get immuned somehow. Mosty dont do eggs as they say they do. I swear they love the natural products as I tralled a whole heap for a shop in town and I swear after using them all she had village upon village of families. I dont even think chemical ones work too well either. Alize has them at the moment and its so hard to tell if he got them from DC or from his sisters who have them all term. Problem is he had tight ringlets and I cant get a comb thru. Mercedes hair is condition combed with a nit comb morning before school and Lesieli is when I can tie her day.
Arrgghhh I hate the creatures but after years of treatments, prescriptions, trips to the school request a letter to parents to help clear their kids as well I have come to the realisation that nit combing is probably the best, safest and cheapest option. I love the holidays, they are all clear!!

The 2 times my kids had nits were almost nervous breakdown material for me lol..I just couldn't stand all that combing day after day that seemed to be doing nothing. The first time we tried several of the chemical treatments before finally being clear of the nits, then I did a lot of reading about how dangerous the chemicals can be, I won't use those type of treatments ever again. So the second time I went to the health shop and they sold me Grapefruit Seed Extract. All we had to do was mix I think it was 1tsp with a couple of tsp of our normal shampoo and leave that on under a shower cap for 20min, then wash out and comb with a nit comb. Repeated I think a week later. The stuff actually kills the eggs as well as the lice, which most treatments don't do. They recommended putting a little in the shampoo bottle for using all the time, but with my daughters hair we use a spray bottle to calm the frizzies every mornig before school anyway so I add a bit into that and some teatree oil for good measure. We have not had nits since, it must be almost a year now, during which time there have been several of the "someone in your childs class has nits please check your childs hair" notices sent home. What a relief it is! Oh and the bottle of stuff cost about $20, but we still have about half it left, so its pretty cost effective as well.

We used to have a massive nit problem when little one was in the middle house of her daycare - strangely since moving up with the 3+yr olds we've not had a single outbreak! lol
We tried so many different products - both natural and chemical and none of them worked. What we did find was a nit comb that took eggs out of the hair as well as the nits! It's wonderful, and came free with a bottle of 'Mr nits' I think it was called. The product didn't do a whole lot, but the comb alone is wonderful - we went from a full blown infestation to having nothing at all and dropping back down to a weekly comb to get rid of anything that had found it's way into her hair again.
Nits are so resistant these days, and I know many parents who aim for maintenance rather than total eradication because it seems impossible to get rid of them at times. But yeah, combing daily or twice daily, and getting a really tight comb to get the eggs out is the best way to go. Good luck! Hope they don't stick around for too long.

Paige has had them twice....
The only way I seem to control them is to only wash her hair once a week and it is tied up every day at school.
And yes Conditioner and nit comb is how you get rid of them.....
Nits like clean hair.

GAH Alize now has been scratching so I have been attacking him with the nit comb and heaps of conditioner as he has ringlets and it can be hard getting the comb thru. Seems 3 consective days of combing has got rid of them. I checked the girls hair and they were nit free so heres hoping I am winning the war on nits for now. However in this house it is always a waging war
The girls are on the once weekly maintanance nit combing schedule lol

It's a constant war in this house too Thankfully the gremlins don't really have enough hair to get them, I've picked the odd one out but you can see them really easily in their hair.
Maya on the other hand is an absolute nightmare. She has thick, fine hair that is an absolute nightmare to comb. I ended up cutting it in desperation coz it was just too hard to comb when it was long and she would scream and scream. Now it's shorter it's far more manageable, I've finally got it clean and now doing a weekly comb with this stuff called Electric Blue Conditioner from the chemist, it doesn't kill the nits but loosens the glue so that you can get the eggs out more easily.

i was so anoyed when i rang the school last week
i asked the office lady to add in the notices for parents to check their kids hair
she said " OH NO we cant do that"!!
i was like WTF?
and she said we just send a note home to all the kids in her class. and hung up . .
sarah doesnt even play with kids in her class!!! and the note that got sent home looked as tho it could have been lecture notes for a med student! all the mumbo jumbo jargon in it
i thought it was so stupid they couldnt just put in the notices to check kids hair!

Maya's school sends home a note to the kids in her class. It's just a basic "please check your kids hair blah blah blah" and at the bottom is a slip you have to sign to say you've checked your child's hair and treated it if need be.
I think it sucks that they don't send kids home for having them anymore, it might motivate some parents to try a bit harder coz I'm sure half the time she gets them back from the same kids. When I was at school they used to send us home.

i know all the daycares send the kids home for having them
im going to sugest they add the bit the parents have to sign.
the sheets they sent home were rediculas, was pretty much a fact sheet in writing smaller than this about the life span of nits!
if i were in that office id write in big letters on bright red paper "your children may have nits check their hair now!" LOL
