Topic: You must be kidding! Posted: 01 June 2007 at 12:34pm |
"You must be kidding! I cant wait that long!" Is exactly what I said to my Gynae doc today. Apparantly there doesnt seem to be anything immediately apparant that could be causing our infertility. So, try for another 6months (jaw on the floor here...) and then if no success (she seemed very confident that she wouldnt be seeing me back there) then they will do an exploratory laproscope ( do it NOW I scream in my head) and see if there is any scarring or blocked tubes etc. (have had a few stomach surgeries in the past, and there is a chance that they scarred the areas I need to make babies, in that case I'l pull a law suit and make them pay for private IVF!)
EHHHHHH! I just so needed to VENT! Im at Uni, and I cant vent to my partner until I get home in a few hours. I know what she said is perfectly reasonable, but all I keep thinking about is baby baby baby.... you get the picture. I just hope to hell that she is right to be so confident that we will concieve.
We have been trying for nearly 13months, so once we reach the 18month mark, then we panic a little, in her words.
So it looks like all we have to do is shag like rabbits and hope the little buggers can find their way there. Heres hoping!
thanks for reading, if you still are, I'l feel better later, but all I wanted was a little action.
never mind, onward and upward as they say.

Hey bumblefoot ...
Imagine my pleasure when, after 2 years of unsuccessful TTC, my specialist sat me down at our appointment 2 months ago and suggested TTC for a further 2 to 3 years before taking any action.
Personally, if I was you, I'd seek a second opinion. Assuming you are doing everything along the lines of charting temps, CM etc, and have good(ish) cycles, they really should be prepared to look at you after 12 months TTC.
Have you had your CD 2/3 and CD23ish tests done, and DH has had a fertility test?
If anyone suggests 'just relaxing' to you by the way ...run over their damn foot.

Ahh man Bumblefoot, that sucks the big kumara! I would be doing as Ginger suggested and getting a second opinion (oh and the bit about just relaxing and feet, lol)... all along I've been told if you get to 12mths without success and everything appears to be healthy and normal then they'd take things further down the medical intervention track - so I think you've every right to be more than a little flabbergasted by today's events!!!
I'm getting antsy now to get things progressing and DH and I have only been going at it for 6 months (yep, I do feel a little selfish saying that knowing there's plenty of other women out there who've been trying for waaaay longer than me!)... man, that's just cruel to make you wait longer without answers!

Argh ...first off, 'DF' I meant bumblefoot DH soon though
The thing is that 90% of people conceive within 12 months of TTC ...so you're in a minority, and you need to know why.
Angie ...it's perfectly normal to be getting antsy WHen you decide you want baby, you WANT baby! It's all ok for DHs etc ...they just cruise along enjoying the BDing whereas, we have reminders constantly month in month out with changes to our cycles, hormones etc which all make us think about the baby that we're trying to make
It's very easy to get down about things ...make sure you keep clocking happy credits and do nice things for yourselves.

Thanks gals!
I knew you would be the reasoning I needed!
DF has had his lil men tested, and I've had all of the above bar the day 1-3 blood test. That is coming up at the end of this cycle. All are good, and DF's is apparantly above normal... He was rather proud of that...MEN! (Still awaiting the results for the second test, wanted it redone to be sure)
So yeah it is all 'unexplained' at the moment. My results say I am ovulating rather nicely, my levels were at 56, and anything over 20 is good, so yeah, cant complain over that.
I think my age was a big factor in why she said to wait a little longer, and that the scope is an invasive proceedure for someone of my physical makeup. (Another long story) I can understand it, but it doesnt make it any easier to swallow.
She gave me a wad of reading about the optimal way to concieve and all that, but as she herself admitted, it seems I know it all by now anyway. And I have you all to thatnk for that!
I havent been temping as it isnt accurate for me, but been watching the CM, and all that. Will just have to BD more often I guess... Dont think DF will mind!
Cheers ladies. watch this space.

*Snort* I'm jaded m'dear. Very jaded!
You have your good days and your bad ...I went to the zoo last weekend without thinking it through, and having just heard about the whole fertility treatment thing having to be kicked up a notch, and there were a few quiet tears after watching kids running about all day. But then, you don't know what some of those people might have been through either ...
Oh, and by the way? Perhaps someone of your physical makeup shouldn't be waiting - perhaps you should be doing this while you are young and at your peak physcal fitness (for your own circumstances, of course!). It's another perspective that you can use to bolster yourself if you decide to hurl yourself at your gyno and demand action

How could your specialist make you wait that long! I just read your other post too, but for all of you that are told to wait longer that's ridiculous. I have pre-existing fertility conditions, so I was lucky, three months then referred, but to have been trying for that long and for someone to then say 'wait longer' - do they understand that people seeking fertility treatment actually want kids someday?! They're not just having lots of cuddles around that time of the month for the hell of it!
I hope now that you have a cause you get some immediate help. Good luck to all of you anyway.
