Topic: How long should fuzzibunz last? Posted: 09 August 2011 at 3:22pm |
Ok..... I have been on here a few times already asking advice regarding FBs - have been down the stripping route several times with different products etc
I was give 12 Fbs by my SIL after she used them on her two girls, and we have used them on DD for 14 months now. So probably had about 5 yrs use in total. They are leaking around the legs, the PUL looks ok to me, but the other 6 FBs I have don't do it, and I wash and treat them the same.
My question is, are the older ones stuffed?
And if they are stuffed, would there be any point or harm in putting something like Nixwax on the legs to try and eek another few months out them? hoping to toilet train over summer.

How long are you getting out of them before they leak? Have you tried putting in more absorbancy? Do they feel looser around the leg compared to those other 6 that don't leak?

it might be the leg elastic that has given away.

Can you post a photo of them closed and open?
If the PUL is fine then im guessing its the elastic or where the thread goes through the PUL the holes have gotten bigger so they wick more.

Um, some leak within first 10mins, others after an hour. Tried thicker microfibre inserts and hemp inserts, no improvement :-(
I can try and post a pic tomorrow, the leg elastic is still tight, as all the kids were very skinny babies. What does PUL look like if it has deteriorated? It kind of looks like smooth glad wrap on the inside at the moment.
If they are stuffed, I can't really afford to replace them with more FBs, are any of the cheaper brands on TM ok?

Turn the nappy inside out.
Is the PUL still all in one piece, or are there holes or rips? Sometimes it delaminates, so you can peel a layer off. Smooth gladwrap sounds like it has delaminated.
I think those fuzzis have done excellent service!
What size are you looking for? I have some here that i am looking to destash that are in good nick.
The cheaper brands on TM are ok, not the best quality PUL or elastic, but many say they work fine.

PUL is def still in one piece, and I googled delaminated PUL - it didn't look anything like any of those pics. Also I compared it to a brand new small one that I have stashed away for #2 and they look exactly the same when inside out.
So, maybe leg elastics? What should i look for there? The PUL looks ok where the elastic is sewn, and while it isn't particularly tight, its still not loose around the thighs. If it is leg elastic problem, can I fix it?

Sorry, still using the meds, it is the petites that I have dozens of and I won't need them all.
Yes elastics can be fixed, just sew more elastic in over top of the old. I think there is someone on TradeMe offering it, maybe do a search. TBH once you have paid someone for fixing them it might be worth buying up more second hand fuzzis or new china cheapies on TM.

Bummer, whats the diff between med/petite and small/petite?
Cool thanks I might track that person down, and just get a couple done to see if it makes a difference. I did a few myself, my my sewing isn't wonderful!

A petite fuzzi has the rise of a large and the waist of a med - so best for tall skinny kids.

Sounds like what we will be onto next if we can't get her toilet trained over summer - 97th percentile for length, and 15th for weight!
What are the sizing of the leg holes on your petites like? Are they similar to a med or larger? Cos if they are pretty close, I might still be interested
