I'd like to start looking at schools for Thomas. We have quite a few in the area and there are some which have waiting lists. How early is too early to start going to meet with the schools? Thomas is 3 and a half.
I would go now and put his name on the waiting list. As you said some schools have really long waiting lists and you can always change your mind later. So even if you get in you can always say no later on if it's not the right fit. Better to have more choices than none at all. Good luck
Also my neiece turns 4 in few monhs and needs to be enrolled now or will miss out for end of 2012 or beginning 2013 start.
I would ask the school. When Ella was 3.5 I got information sent from one of the schools I was interested in and they said not to put her name down on the waiting list until she was at least 4.
We had Isla;s name on the waiting list at one school when she was 2. We visited that school and another at 4.5yrs, and made our decision then- we decided not to go with the school she had been on the waiting list for.
Wont hurt to pop in or ring up and make a time to have a chat and look around, and it certianly wont be unusual for them to meet with parents of 3.5yr olds either!
I would definitely put your name down earlier if the birthday is later in the year (in case the roll closes) or if you are out of zone & need/want to go into their ballot.
Yeah get your name in early if you are out of zone.
We are in zone for the school we wanted. We rang when he was 4 and they checked we were in zone and told us to call back a couple of months before he turned 5
We're in zone for the school we'd reeeally like, but i need to check them all out in case I dont like it.
I actually have an appt tuesday week to check it out :D his birthday is May, so I figure it was a good time to do it.
If you are in the zone for a school and its a public school (not private) you can just roll up on the day they turn 5 and they have to take you - they like you to enroll at age 4 so that they can predict their future numbers and how how many staff to employ etc.
remember a school can change over a couple of years - staffing etc so good to re check them out closer to age 5.
