I don't have depression but I do have a sleep problem that developed when Elle was 3mths old and is still going strong. My doc previously said it is probably anxiety related and suggested anti-anxiety med i.e. anti-depressants.

However, it seems to me that lots of people find their sleep gets worse on those meds, not better! What is your experience?

I feel that committing to taking something like that whilst pregnant is a big call as the safety is not guaranteed so if I do I want to be fairly sure it will be worth it.

I'm also scared about the fact that many people struggle to come off the meds and I don't want to stay on them for a long time as I'm not a medication person (not even Panadol). I find ALL medications, even panadol make me feel full of chemicals.

Hey Fiona

There's lots of herbal remedies for anxiety and sleep problems (rescue remedy is one but I know there's better if you go to a naturapath or herbalist).

I wouldn't recommend sleeping pills, I have been prescribed them (as I sleep terribly) but they generally make people very groggy in the morning :(, so I don't take them anymore.

I've just started taking an antidepressant called Celephram, and though I don't sleep well, I don't believe they are the cause, as I already didn't sleep well before taking them. Infact my doctor said it should improve sleep.

Maybe instead you could go to a counselor or PND support group where you can talk about all your anxieties and concerns, here's a really good start!

Yeah I have to stay clear of sleeping pills as I get serious rebound insomnia after only one night of taking a sleeping pill.

Before getting pregnant I tried various herbal things and the only one that kinda worked can't be taken during pregnancy.

I've tried getting homeopathic remedies made for me but they never helped what-so-ever.

It's tricky. I feel like I have a chemical imbalance...I'm tired, relaxed, happy but my body won't fall into sleep.

You sound pretty clued up on the natural side of health so you probably already know how sugar affects the adrenals.

Maybe (if you haven't already) you could completely cut out all sources of sugar and caffiene from after dinner onwards, even carbs.

That's about all I can think of. Hope you find the source of these sleepless nights - I can sympathise!
