Hi ladies,

I would love to hear from anyone else who is unfortunately going through this or has gone through this in the past. There is not a lot of info or support out there for us so I thought this might be a good place to talk about it.

We lost out baby in September 2011 due to a partial molar pregnancy. It was also a missed miscarriage so we were devastated when we went for our 12 week scan to learn she had died at around 8 weeks, after seeing her alive and well on a scan at 7w5d. It was out first baby. I had a D&C which went well but a week later had problems and ended up in hospital. A scan revealed I had retained products so had a second D&C done. The doctors told us that the genetic tests done showed PMP. We also found out it was a little girl. Ever since we found out I have been having weekly blood tests to monitor my HCG levels. This Friday will be 4 months worth of weekly blood tests. I would have also been 32 weeks along It's so scary knowing that what killed my baby could also kill me. All we wanted was to start a family, not only did we have to cope with the loss of our baby but now I face the prospect that I may develop cancer.

My levels have been very slow at dropping and have still not reached zero. Did any one elses take a long time? Has anyone had to have Methotrexate? Is anyone else now in the waiting period? (I have been given a 12 month wait time) Has anyone gotten pregnant before they were advised to by their doctor?

Any advice or just your experiences would be appreciated.

to anyone who has lost a precious angel x

so sorry to hear of your loss. it has been a horrible time for you. My mother had a molar pregnancy years and years ago in 1970. she was 6 months along and had to give birth to it. she also experienced high HCg levels and it took 6 months of then urine/blood tests to come down. But she went on to have two more children, my sister (2yrs after molar) and me and no cancer.

Be strong, hang in there what you hvae been through was horrible and tramatic. Have you got lots of family support around you?. Your grieving it will take time to heal. you will go on to have healthly pregnancies and babies. It will happen.

With regards to methotrexate injection i had it last week due to an ectopic @ 6 wks pregnant. it didn't work for me( it does for 90% of the population i was told. My tube ruptured and i had to have emergency surgery to remove it all. The stand down for getting pregnant after the methotrexate injection is around 3 -6 months as it depletes folic acid levels.
We have decided to give it 1 - 2 years then decided if we should try for another. I will be 34 -35yrs so a good time. Plus it gives me time to grieve and come to terms with it.

Thanks for the pikelets.

Hi LJsmum, thanks so much for replying. OMG you poor thing I hope you are feeling better. I didn't realise that they also gave Methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy. I am scared that I might need to get it and don't really know what to expect. All I know is that it is a form of chemotherapy which is terrifying.

I have been told that the chances of a molar/partial molar happening are around 1:1500 so there are not that many of us out there. Sorry your mum had to go through this but it is promising to hear that she went on to have to healthy babys I have only ever met one other person who has had this and it was one of the nurses at the labtest place.

I am 27 so time is on my side but it's so hard when you want to start a family so desperately and your told that you can't. I am going to see the Oncologist in a couple of weeks so fingers crossed my levels will reach zero before then and I wont need the Methotrexate.

Hi everyone,

I went back to the hospital on Thursday and finally some good news! They did all the xrays ansd ultrasounds on me again and they all came back clear. I still haven't got a zero tumour hcg (been stuck at 1 for 5 weeks) but they think it is just a false positive so.... they are happy that I am going to be fine (no cancer) and 4 1/2 months of weekly blood tests later I can now go to monthly blood tests (thank goodness because my poor arms can't take much more). They will monitor me for 6 months (instead of the 12 months I was initially told) and if all is ok then we can TTC again!!!! So exciting!!!!

Hi I had a partial molar pregnancy in Oct 2007 (had d&c at 10weeks). It took 7 weeks for my hcg levels to go down. We since then have had another child who is 3! next month. I had to have my hcg levels checked 6 week after having her to make sure the levels had come down. All the best and good luck

Hi Oscar,
Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear that you had to go through what I am currently experiencing . I am so happy to hear that you have a beautiful baby now. It really gives me hope to hear that people do get through this and go on to have healthy babies. The hardest part for me was obviously the loss of our baby, but then not being able to move on because of the constant testing and monitoring and then the threat of cancer constantly in the back of your mind. Each weekly blood test was a constant reminder of my miscarriage . Of course then being told that we can not TTC for at least 6 months to 1 year was heart breaking.

Oscar do you mind me asking how long they said that you should wait to TTC once your levels reached zero?

Thanks for your support Pepi-bebe and Pikelets

Moobear you pretty much wrote my story of my first pregnancy. The missed m/c, the partial molar result, the long wait before hcg reached zero, the damn blood tests rubbing in the loss, the fear of it actually turning cancerous, and yeah, the sadness at having to wait.

They told me to wait a year from the last zero level I think. We ignored that because I was so upset and I weighed up the risks versus me being increadably depressed. We fell pregnant again almost straight away but unfortunately we had to terminate because of a completely unrelated problem ('just unlucky' they told us). But anyway we now happily have 2 healthy babies. Hang in there and good luck.

Hi thesaff,

Thanks for your post
Congratulations on your two little angels, they look beautiful! We too are thinking of being a little bit naughty and ignoring the doctors advice. I have done a lot of research and found the chances of it coming back are almost zero and I totally agree with you about weighing up the depression thing with the risk of anything happening.

It helps hearing positive stories from other ladies who have gone through this so thanks so much! You give me hope

Hi Moobear,
I had a partial molar pregnancy and gave birth to my baby on 20th December 2011, when he was 14 weeks.
My HcG did go to zero after about a month, and then last week found out it has jumped up again.
Was scanned, both ultrasound and CT, to learn that I have another mole/tumour growing in my uterus. D&C was deemed too risky, so started Chemotherapy (Methotrexate) this afternoon.
Is a bloody scary time ahead, and am freaking out a little.
I will have chemo every 2nd day for 8 days, then 6 days off, probably for 3 months, Then have to wait 12 months before getting pregnant again. Am devastated coz my son will be about 4 by then and I always wanted my children closer together. But not much I can do...just wait.

Hi KerryJ,

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through Life is so cruel sometimes. I was told the chances of it increasing after it has reached zero is practically nil but that it does happen in rare cases. This has given me a bit of a reality check.

As I am sure you have been told the cure rate is almost 100%. You will be ok hun, just stay strong and surround yourself with lots of supportive people. You can PM me anytime if you want to talk

My heart goes out to you and your family. Best of luck with everything. Please let me know how things go.

Hi KerryJ.

So sorry to hear about what you are going through. Must be so stressful for you and your family. I am currently waiting for confirmation of a suspected partial mole after a D&C on the 17th Feb. This was on the back of losing a baby at 16 weeks on the 2nd Dec 2011 to Trisomy 13 so I know what it feels like to have odds stacked against you. Moobear has been a fantastic help to me via email the last week so definitely take up her offer if you think it would help you... and I am here too. I have a son too (he is 2 1/2 - perhaps a similar age to yours??)

Moobear and KerryJ, just wanted to give you a hug and tell you a (sort of) positive story.

My eldest sister had a molar pregnancy, discovered at 5 months. She felt that something was wrong but her doctor basically told her not to be silly. Anyway, she went on to have two more babies, who are now aged 31 and 29, and are both pregnant themselves, and my sister has had no related health problems whatsoever.

Hello everybody,

I'm from Malaysia and hopefully I had a warm welcome into this forum coz I'm not Newzealander..

Actually I am now searching for molar pregnancy as I am one of the patient who just gone through this 'wonderful' challenge since I had my first D&C due to partial molar pregnancy on 19 December 2012. Unluckily,I had my second D&C on 13 January 2012 due to some molar cells still left behind (also heavy bleeding after the first one)..my beta Hcg reading for 8 weeks since the 1st D&C, went down from 320,0000 to 2,000 now but really slow on decreasing to normal according to the chart given by Gynae each time during check ups..

Eventually, the Gynae recommended me to do the chemo treatment aka known as Methotrexate (low dose as I am in low risk scorer) next week as she quite worried I might have persistent GTD if I'm not being treated well.In addition, those chemo is the only alternative way which will make me recover faster and able to conceive again for normal pregnancy in the future. I will be treated in daily care unit for Methotrexate on 1,3,5,7 and folinic acid on 2,4,6,8,alternately then a week after resting with checking blood results..At first,I am scared to death n couldn't believe with what I will go through but when my Gynae told that it is only low dosage chemo and not to worry much I will be just fine..I felt much more confidence and I keep telling myself to be strong for any upcomings tht for my own good..

Wish me luck and I welcome any of you will share their experience on sore mouth and hair falls during the treatment..Was it so bad? How long should I wait for another pregnancy? Thanks a million..Hope to hear from you guys sooner.. -Sal-
