At what point would to start to investigate other causes of disgusting, slimey, mucousy poos? Gabrielle has had them for a week now...really really gross. She has also been a bit off in general. She just cut tooth 5 and 6 almost through.

So my question is how long would you expect yuck naps from teething to continue & at what point would you start to look for other causes (e.g. dietary)?

I would consider taking her to the doctor with a sample?? Might give you some answers.

erm.... as yuck as it sounds... I'd say that too.  Our Paed said mucous in #2's should be reported to the Doc (though when I did tell her that Ella had had that happening, she said something along the lines of 'just let me know if it keeps happening' - so I don't think it's cause to panic at all!).

If it's been a week I'd have the doc check it out...I know there are a few nasty bugs doing the rounds at the moment.

I should've added that she is still only doing poos once every two days, occassionally every day so it's not like we have masses of yucky nappies...

Jack had a good month or so of yucky nappies and nappy rash but it was from teething. I would take her to the dr tho just in case it is something more.

Ok very very gross question....

Sorry to ask but...

is it normal for babies to have a flap of skin by the anus that looks a bit red? Just wondering if I should get it looked at or if it is normal? It has just appeared in the last week or so.

Might have to take a trip to the doc just to be sure.

We went to the doc and she didn't know! She said it isn't a haemorroid...it is some kind of skin tag, which is inflamed but she isn't sure what it is. She gave us some cream and told us to go back in a week. It is common with people with constipation but the ironic thing is that it has come up in the last week since she has had mushy poos...go figure! Prior to this week her stools were always mega hard!

Poor poppet :( She hasn't been wetting much either but her temp, ears, throat etc are all fine. Maybe the decreased wetting is due to the warmer weather.

Good to hear you've had Elle checked out but that the Dr couldn't tell you exactly what it is. If she's not wetting much maybe offer her some water? Esp. with weather getting warmer

I just did a google search and I'm amazed that the doc said she didn't know what it was. It is a anal fissure & sentinel tag...a sign the fissure is a really bad one :( She doesn't cry at all during nappy changes so fingers crossed it isn't too painful for her.
