ROFL, I hope you ladies with bigger kids had fun with your little ones dressing up?? I just wanted to say... pleases don't put them in a scream mask as I had a kid come to the door in one last night and I actually screamed when I saw him... He got such a fright and kept apologising but I had to laugh soooo much

Maya the 'norsie' going trick or treating. She had such a ball with her little friends, and she got soooo many lollies. I've put most of them away and I'll ration them out to her, but she woke up this morning and wanted lollies for breakfast!

I was never allowed as a kid and mum and dad always shut the door in kids faces cause
a) It is undermining the "stranger danger" thing and
b) Mum and Dad felt it was too "American"
So hence I never got into it and now we live in the country its just another day to us!!
Also it was my Mama's birthday and she passed away a few years ago so it's "her" day for us to remember
Hope the rest of you had fun @ Halloween!!

We always went as kids, but we always had a parent with us and never after dark. I think it's just a bit of fun for kids, and pretty safe as long as they are well supervised and you check out the lollies etc. before they eat them. We had the odd person say to us that they didn't believe in it etc. when we were kids, and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their beliefs. I was surprised yesterday tho - noone said no to our kids, everyone seemed to be really into it.
And it is an American thing, but then so is Valentines Day...

My parents also believed to was too american but these days with all the shops and things getting into it it's a bit hard to stop the kids. A friend of ours took her young kids out in the car trick or treating and she had rung all her friends and family in the area so the kids just went round to the people they knew. I don't have a problem with the younger kids getting all dressed up and going out with an adult but last night I had quiet a few older kids(14-16) come round expecting to get something for just throwing on a mask while still wearing there schoool uniform. I thought that was cheating!

I agree HelenElla, it should be all about the little ones. We saw a few bigger ones who weren't even dressed up and to me that is almost scabbing!

Yeah we had one group of kids come to the door not even wearing a mask and I asked what they were ment to be they said school kids so I just told them to go away. There was one little three year old boy that came round with his big sis, he was wearing torn jeans above the knee and a completely torn up t-shirt and he was painted bright green all over. Of course he was the incredible hulk, it was just sooo cute I think I probably gave him too many lollies! He even told me that he was really sorry that his sister wasn't dressed up.

hahahahah good on ya jake
i only like kids that make the effort.
i used to go around when i was little(r) but that was because i had an american friend that insisted we go.
i believe that if you go trick or treat-ing then you have to know the whole halloween story/myth thingy.

We lived in the US for a year when I was a child, so learned about Halloween there, but my mum was very anti commercialisation etc so Halloween, Valentines and all those other American 'holidays' were out for us. Personally, I'm not into them either, and won't be encouraging my child to take part, but if he/she really wanted to I think I'd let them... Mummy's going to be a pushover I think!!

I think it is kinda fun... we had the CUTEST little kids come round, there was a batman, a superman and a cat in the hat!! They were gorgeous!! I haev always been slightly anti trick or treating but now i think it is a fun thing for little kids! Like you HelenElla we had a bunch of sixteen year olds come round, fair enough they were all dressed up (as fairies) but I sort of think it should be just for littlies... but then what is the cut off age?
