Hi just wondering if anyone can advise me on whether you are entitled to home help after a caesar? I am du e to have an elective caesar in Jan and my DD will be around 22 months old. Some people have said yes and others no? Also if yes where do you access this help from. Thanks in advance.

I recently heard that you can have home help after a c/s. I didn't know that when I had one (end of 2003) so I haven't applied for it before. Your mw will know the details, give her a call sometime.

I got home help after ceasar - I told my midwife I wanted this and she arranged it for me. I have 2 other kids but they aren't young (at rhyleys birthday they were 8 and 13)
I got it for around 5 weeks (your entitled for 6 weeks for 2-3 per week)
It was good, she did my bathroom, vacumming, washed floors, strip and set beds, and put washing on the line. Well worth it I say.
But if your partner isn't working or is hom ewith you for a while they won't give it to you.

Thanks everyone for your help. My midwife was one of the ones that said I wouldn't be entitled to any help and it may be because as Ann C said hubby will be at home for the first 2 weeks. I will give WINZ a ring anyway and just see what they say. Never know until you enquire.
If not I may even see if I can find a cleaner just for the first couple of weeks to do bathrooms etc. Hope fully it won't be too costly??!!
Thanks heaps for all the advice, it's much appreciated.

If you had abdo surgery for anything else you would be entitled - unless you have other people in the house who are able. I assume it would be funded by whichever company runs the DHBs home help in that area.

No as far as I know its not income tested cause I never got asked what our wage was and probably would of out ruled us too.
As for your Dh being off the first 2 weeks so was mine and since christmas was around the 5-6 week mark they stopped cause they found it hard for someone to do it and DH was off again (his work closed for the christmas break)
I would still ask to apply for it like i did, not once did my midwife say or suggest I wouldn't get it she was happy to get the forms for me. I don't think it was thru winz though - more like the health board or a side part of it.
