Hi Girls

I am new to these forums and to motherhood. I have a wee girl now 11 weeks old. I am looking for a coffee group and I am not sure how to find one. I am not even sure whether there are any meeting at this time of the year ... any suggestions?

We usually have some coffee meets at Botany once every like 3 months or so or you just start a topic and say coffee at Sylvia park this time or that or picnic here ect.

You can try your local plunket as they organise some coffee meets for new moms.

I am in Mt Roskill. My Plunket nurse gave my details to someone?? to put me in touch with a group, but I have not heard from her yet. That was probably a month ago. I have asked since but nothing.

I will follow it up again!

Hi Debbiet - SunnyHoney is in Mt Roskill, and I am in Sandringham. Its pretty mad at the moment, but am sure we could organise to catch up for coffee after chrissy. My wee boy is 9 weeks old, and Sunnyhoneys girl is about 11weeks I think.

Hi Debbiet, maybe you had the same plunket nurse as me ! Madison is now just about 4 months and i still haven't heard from plunket about a coffee group, after reminding the nurse a couple of times. In the end i gave up, but would love to catch up with some of you guys in the new year (if you don't mind )I am in Avondale.

I am happy to meet anytime before or after the 14th and I have no problem with a Whangaparoian joining us.

If you want to meet before the 14th, is the best place to meet in a mall in a fairly open cafe?

From point chev shops head toward west motorway but do not join it, go undermotorway and straight on down Great North Rd. Follow this onto Ash street (so no turning off, ash street follows on from great north rd). You should pass the Racecourse, Shell and MacDonalds on your left. Keep going about 2kms when you go past the Warehouse (on left), turn left at the traffic lights (big set). Follow this all the way until you see New Lynn Shopping Mall on your right.

Cafe is on the left hand side of mall, if you are by KFC the entrance is straight ahead.

Emma don't scorn at a sleeping baby (or babies in your case), if they are sleeping means you have atleast 5mins to yourself for a change ahy

I know what you mean though when you have somewhere to be!! Its like do I wake her, do I not - me thinks NOT!!

LOL Peachy, I wasn't waking them for love nor money, I didn't stumble out of bed till i heard them rattling in their cages. Poor old Maya had to sit in my bed and watch TV coz she woke up at 8.

Sam, are you doing swimming lessons at mt Albert? We did the Wed morning lessons with the gremlins till their bloody ears packed up and Maya does lessons there too.

Yeah they do, I think the gremlins started at 6 months. Hilton Brown is closer to us but Maya started at Mt Albert when we lived over that way and she's starting school in Mt Albert soon so I'm going to time her lessons for after school so I only have to make one trip over.

(sorry thread hijack!!) Where is Maya going to start school? I used to swim regulary at Mt Albert, but to be honest the last few times I have been I thought it was getting quite grotty and dirty, and wouldnt be that keen on taking a baby there. Figure its fine for older kids and adults, but wouldnt be sure about little ones!!

She's going to Marist. We originally enrolled her there when we were living in Mt Albert when she was a baby (you pretty much have to enrol them at birth!) and I like the feel of Marist a lot better than our local Catholic schools St Doms and Monte Cecelia. Plus Marist will feed her into the One Day School gifted kids programme at Owairaka once she's 6.

I agree, the pools at Mt Albert can be a bit grotty, I used to get annoyed when I was preg with the gremlins coz it was the highlight of my week taking Maya to swimming lessons coz it meant I could soak in the family spa but half the time it was closed and the adult spa was too hot.

i used to go to St Dominics Primary.....its a very good school....i cant think of anything bad about it....all very nice teachers....plus a very nice caretaker who takes softball on the top and/or bottom field....My mum is also currently a teacher there too....My younger sibblings have all gone there (followed in my footsteps)...The others have moved on from there except for younger brother (whos 11 atm) the last of my sibblings whos stil there....I remember back in my yeara there we used to have a friendly playful cat called Dominic too....

Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean that anything about St Doms is 'bad', the prospectus etc. all looked fine, as did Monte Cecelia (except I wasn't impressed with the attitude I got when I rang to find out about enrolling Maya at Monte), but Marist is one of the top Catholic primary schools in Auckland and they feed into the one day school programme which is a biggie for us with Maya.

Yep, the lady there was friendly enough and sent me the prospectus etc. The lady at Monte was just a bit abrupt and rude IMO.

I am loosing the plot. I thought the first Wednesday of the month was next week - however, it is the third Wednesday tomorrow

So I guess as it is short notice we will aim for the first Wednesday unless anyone wants to meet sooner?

Sounds good to me. Willie is off work this week to spend time with the girls so we are hanging out with him tomorrow.

Man I wish our car was up and running... I'd love to meet up, but the closest I can get to 'central' is St Lukes or even a walk around Western Springs without having to walk for miles in this horrendous heat

I'm not a first time Mum, but I do remember the three days of gruelling labour I had with my first Neeks, 41 hours of 9lb, posterior-baby hell. Am pleased to report that things do get better, labour #2 was only 6 hours.

YUCK Emma posterior labour would suck, mine was bad enough as I have an extra vertebrae in my lower back which caused me IMMENSE agony throughout... Keziah's labour was 48 hours all up and then I had forceps, ventouse THEN a emergency c-section so it ended up being more with all the slicing and dicing!!! Keziah weighed 7lb 8oz and was 6 days overdue.

Owwwwww Neeks! That sounds sucky!

Ferny my gremlins were 6lb8oz and 7lb1oz and it was a bit different having them to having Maya, altho no harder/more painful, it was just quicker and drug free. I had a epi with Maya after 36 hours of labour coz I was exhausted.
