So this post is more just sorting out my thought more then anything, but I have been off my med's now for a month came off just before I found out about baby. I will say at this point mine is not PND jsut depression in genral. So here is the thing I got pretty bad after I had Mikey was just really low and struggling. Been really great for the last 4 or 5 month's and still doing ok. Bit moody, but hard to tell if that hormones or not. So anyway talked to my M/W about this and she has suggested I go back on my med's soon after I have bub's that way when the baby blues kick in I will have some stablity. Anyway I just have read another post and someone mentioned they can't go back on floux till after finishing BF here is the thing I really think the reason why I stoped BF with Mikey was casue I was getting really down and I really wnat to BF this one cause I really enjoyed it for the first few month's with Mikey so is there anything I can take while BFing. Sorry for the long post guy's jsut needed to get it out.

When I 1st started citilopram I told dr's that I was wanting to fall preg & b/f so this is what they put me on.  Was told tho if poss to be off meds by about 6mths preg so when baby is born they dont have the 'withdrawls' - apparently what baby gets thru b/mlk is a much lower dose.  Speak to your GP and let them know what your plan is and that you def want to breastfeed

Good luck

ps: I am hoping to try some homeopathic remedies so if it makes a difference I will let you know

So far the best meds to take for depression while Bfeeding is paroxtine which is closely followed by citalopram. You can defintley Bfeed and take meds. Are you under Maternal mental health?? They are an awesome service and have all the most up to date current info where meds and preg/bfeeding are concerned.

Best of luck Debs

Ooops forgot to add I was put on the lowest dose of citalopram for the last 4wks of pregnancy. I had stoped taking my fluox as soon as I found out I was preg too.

I took fluox while pregnant and while breastfeeding.

I went back on them when I was about 6 months preg with Char as I had a bad relapse of my depression.

I've been on fluox (prozac) since I was 18, so about 14 years off and on.

Lactation consultant said it wasn't the best one to be on while BF, but it was ok to BF while on it, they didn't want to change my drugs, or at least, take me off them (wean) and wean onto something else in case "something" happened.. (like I went nuts and killed everyone, maybe?)

Don't remember my dosage, though, as I have been off them for a while now, and am feeling all good!

Good luck and ask ask ask everyone.
