ok...i got Ethan's report from the allergy man..it says
'Ethan was negative to control milk, egg,peanut,soya,wheat,fish and cashew. This indicates that he does not have an immediate IgE reaction to these foods. However, skin prick testing again at 12 months of age is more accurate. Management: Ethan is much bette ron Neocate. I agree his is likely to have a cow's milk protein intolerance. However it is likely to be an IgE delayed onset reaction I recommend: He goes onto Pepti Junior and i have requested a supplementary benefit for this. He should be on a probiotic. I would like to review him at 1 year of age, when i wil do more skin tests. However, if there are problems, I will see him prior to that. In Addition, I suggest that with solids, he avoid peanut, dairy,soya,egg and gluten until 1 year of age. However it is likely to be an IgE delayed onset reaction (ME: does that mean a reaction but not a severe one.. can i still qualify for the child disability thing?) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Intolerance is a non-immune system reaction to a food.
IgE mediated reaction is an immediate immune response. This is usually your classic hives, swelling, anaphylaxis at the first or second exposure to a food. Non-IgE mediated reaction is still an immune response but they are delayed. Can still get hives etc, but it is a much more delayed reaction. I know the research suggests that in infants with cows milk protein allergy, those with non-IgE reactions are much more likely to outgrow it than the others. Thats how I understand it anyhow. weird as he got the hives etc:( that confused the doc and me... so i have the delayed reaction for my intolerances.
(he got it in 2mins) :( thats good that he will outgrow it.. thanks.. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

I don't know why they even bothered with skin prick testing, clinical history is a far better indicator of allergies in young babies than diagnostic testing including skin prick and RAST testing. Diagnostic testing is far more accurate after 12 months of age. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

he had a different formula for a week..that one was the first time(well he had it once 3 weeks before) but the first time he had it..but yes Emma i agree.. he did it..said he was positive.. and then re did it and said he wasnt and we should retest...weird! ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |
