Hi all. Had two very positive HPT's yesterday and when I worked out my due date, it is a 1/1/09 baby! Very excited. Have a four-year old so thought it was about time to have another. Had an awful first pregnancy so deep breathe for this one!

By the way. Only about two weeks pg but already having twinges in lower abdomen. Nothing major, just a bit breath taking. Do not remember this with the first one. Still nervous that HPT's are wrong but af late as of today. Will pop to dr tomorrow just to be sure.

Hi lady-aset. Congrats! I have taken my dates off start of last af so I may be a bit after the 1st, but was three weeks early with my first wee girl so who knows! I give up on dates sometimes. Would be a cool way to ring in the new years tho. Am v.excited but nervous too cos ended up in hosp for 7 weeks with hyperemesis and basically wanted to throw myself out a window as I felt so dreadful. My wee girl was fine tho, which was the main thing. Am going to stay positive with this one and hopefully the morning sickness will be mild.

That is fantastic. It must be such a great feeling for you both. My first wee girl was a complete surprise. We weren't even trying so it has been frustrating this time round. I don't have any infertility problems but have an irregular cycle so was finding it had to work out when I was fertile. My DH and I also have jobs where we are both away at times/nights so seeing each other has been an issue! Crazy huh!? It'll be great to go through this journey with you on-line if you are planning to stick around. My DH is very supportive but it's just good to chat with 'the girls'!

Nefertiti - 2 weeks since conception, but 4 weeks pregnant as the EDD is taken from the first day of the last AF. That's where some people get confused!!! So a person who is "2" weeks pregnant (from conception) is actually "4" weeks pregnant (first two weeks are free while you're waiting for ovulation).
|
Posted By: Katte
Date Posted: 27 April 2008 at 5:45pm
Hi All - Good to to see the 2 wk vs 4 wk thing has been answered already. Because my last pregnancy was such a surprise, I had no idea of dates or anything so I just went off my scans so this time I was counting from what I thought was conception date not af. So I can now say I am 4wks and 4 days. Yippee me! I guess there is a method behind the madness! Am sitting here feeling like a little furnace. Must be having a bit of a hot flash. Did anyone have short, sharp twinges in their lower abdomen very early on in their pregnancy?
|
Posted By: Mum2L
Date Posted: 27 April 2008 at 5:59pm
Katte - yes, I am getting those short, sharp twinges. My GP told me that is due to the uterus stretching. Even my best friend who is a pre/post op nurse, who has had 4 children, confirmed this... Sometimes it feels like very dull period pain, but not painful, if that makes sense...
Hehe, it is funny having someone who is exactly the same stage in pregnancy as me :-)

I know...it's great having someone to 'bounce off'. I am still so nervous that my af is going to come. Probably just paranoia as the two tests I did yesterday were very positive and very quickly positive. Didn't worry last time as first indication I was pregnant was morning sickness..and bad at that! Will haul my worried butt off to the doctor so that I can fully relax and stop stressing!!!

Thanks for the congrats everyone. Hopefully you won't be too far behind Rachel.
I will just warn you that I may be a bit paranoid for a while, I had a miscarriage at the beginning of march at 6 weeks 2 days so am very nervous about this pregnancy and may become a bit neurotic. DH doesn't really understand so you guys might have to put up with my insanity

Oh and about the pains, I have had periodish pain with all three of my pregnancies but its not quite as crampy as a period more the feeling you get before AF arrives. And yeah stretching pains are a biatch and worse with subsequent pregnancies and they, for first timers, feel like shooting pains but don't last very long and aren't overly painful, more a sharp shoot of pain and then its over.

LOL Marisa, you can't possibly be as neurotic as I was so don't worry! It's completely normal! I'm sure your wee bean will be fine, but that doesn't make the first few weeks any less angsty
Katte - hope you manage to avoid the hyperemesis this time, it sucks I'm onto pregnancy #3 with it and every time I think "I am NEVER doing this again!"

Thanks for the good wishes Maya. I am sooooo hoping the hyperemesis isn't as bad this time round. It has taken me about four years to even contemplate the idea of getting pregnant again, I have just been so scared. It's not just me I have to think about either. It was so stressful on my DH (who was brilliant but hated being so helpless), work were incredibly supportive and I had to take heaps of time off and having a four-year-old thrown in means I have had to think this over pretty seriously. Have a fantastic specialist tho who is putting a plan in place should I end up in the same condition. BUT am going to do my darndest to stay as healthy as poss and we'll just have to see how it all turns out.

Sounds like you have a good approach. I can remember with this baby when it was at it's worst around 7 weeks feeling like I wouldn't care if I lost the baby coz it would mean I'd get to feel normal again, and then feeling so guilty about it! I think it's harder second/third time around coz I know that 12 weeks *isn't* the magic fix-all date, with Maya I got thru by thinking that it would end next week, or next week, or next week. Now I've just had to accept that I am destined to throw up every day until bub arrives and so I try to look forward to that instead. I've stopped taking the antiemetics coz I don't really think they were doing much, and I still have ptyalism. Mind you, this is a piece of cake compared to how bad it was when I was preg with the gremlins!
Anyway, enough of a threadjack from me, best of luck!

Hi Nefertiti - You were right in picking it up! It just feels weird saying 4 wks when in fact it is two since conception! I know what you mean about it being weird that your 4 weeks, when you only BD'd 2 weeks earlier. Infact we were having a laugh the other day about this. Imagine when in the situation where you have a one night stand and you get pregnant...well, you meet the guy at the pub and you say 'well i only just met you 5 minutes ago, but infact im already 2 weeks pregnant with your baby!'...lol

Katte - I hope the appt goes well with the doctor today :-)
Had to get to go to the toilet very early in the morning, which is a first for me!!! I did go before I went to bed, and I have always managed to wait till I woke up to go to the loo... So I guess this little one wants to start training me for night feeds :-p But the good thing is that I am a very good sleeper, and was able to get back to sleep straight away.
I will calling around for a midwife today. Hopefully I can get one first go
I wish the ticker would update to 4 weeks and 5 days... but I suppose that is what you get when it comes from a US site.... maybe a kiwi could start up a ticker site

Well decided to go to the doc, think i will get two hcg tests and then wait till the early scan (if they offer me one). Have spoke to the midwife that I had when I miscarried and she is happy to see me this time I will see her in a few weeks times after the tests etc.
Well ms seems to have arrived this morning which is a bummer and DH thinks me crying at greys anatomy last night was my hormones, its not i'm just a loser that crys at everything.

Hi all...thanks for all the good wishes. Think my doctor thought I was mental being so paranoid! After I told him I had three positive HPT's and had missed my period he said there was absolutely no reason to have a blood test and that I was definately pregnant. So yay ha! Just had an awful experience tho. Rang up the fabulous midwive I had for my girl only to find out she had passed away 3 weeks ago from breast cancer. Just gutted. She was simply awesome during my hyperemesis and even when they 'took me away' from her and I went under a specialist she still continued to visit me. Only found out from another midwife after I had rung her number and spoken to her husband who only said she wasn't working as a midwife anymore, so feeling awful. Very sad

Congrats on finding a midwife. Most docs don't do blood tests they leave it up to the midwifes so she will probably have the maternal bloods then. Its not normal to have hcg tests either, i'm only having them this time because I had a miscarriage I didn't have any with Spencer.
Katte, hope you find another midwife that you like as much. I didn't want to go back to mw that I had with Spencer so had to find a new one. This lady seems really nice and was lovely when I had the miscarriage last time. She says it how it is which I like and she is English so we have that in common.

I never had standard blood tests with the first one either. Guess the hyperemesis was a dead giveaway! They only did a blood test to see what my levels were as I was so sick and then a scan cos they thought I might be having twins! I'm pretty relaxed about it now. Am going back on Fri to sort out an action plan for my asthma which was also a pain in the butt last time so will talk to him again then. He's been my doctor forever so I trust his judgement but might get stroppy and demand one!

Well saw doc and did another pee test, came up positive, I was starting to think that it would be negative and I had imagined my one at home. Decided not to test hcg levels, won't stop a m/c if its gonna happen so not much point. He took one maternal blood test, not sure what for, he said all the others were still up to date as I only had them done at the end of feb. He has offered to refer me for an early scan if I like to put my mind at ease, so not sure whether I will do that or not but have about 3 weeks to decide.
Thought perhaps we should all introduce ourselves properly and start a due date list.
So I will start, my real name is Marisa (probably guessed that already from the previous messages but hey) i'm 28 and I'm married to Richard who is 30 and we have Spencer who is 10 months. We are originally from the UK but have been in NZ for 4 years. I'm an electrician and I work part time from home (or try to).

That's a great idea Marisa. It's obvious that I am Katte. I'm a very young 37 which is probably because I am married to Graham who is 30! We have a daughter who is 4 1/2. I work fulltime as a technical sales rep for an animal health pharmaceutical company. We live on a 3 acre lifestyle property so share our lives with 18 sheep, 10 chickens, a rabbit, two dogs and a cat. Soon they will be joined by some pigs!
Good thinking about the blood tests. I have never had a m/c so I can't even begin to imagine what you have gone through but you're right. No amount of testing will stop it happening and, even though I don't mind having a blood test, I get pretty wound up about them before hand. Sending you 'sticky vibes'!
By the way, I do not remember being this tired, this early with my first pregnancy. Am at home in my office today and have struggled to achieve anything!

Got my hCG levels back from the doctor today. They did the blood test last Wednesday, which was right on the 4 week mark. My hCG level at that time was 166, which they said was the normal range. So I have another blood test on Wednesday again to make sure that the hCG levels are increasing at the right rate.
That just put my mind at rest, because even though I peed on numerous HPTs to make sure I was pregnant, the blood test just confirms it. It also confirmed it for DH as well.
The fact that I am pregnant is really sinking in now....

Hi guys,
figure i can jump into this thread now.
I am Melanie 28, married to Jason 29 and we are due on Jan 5th. Which is DH grans birthday. Funnily enough, mine is the 7th and bro-inlaws is the 10th.
Had all my bloods done. I had my HCG, but maybe cos its my first??? As I have had an abnormal smear, i may be considered a high risk pregnancy so I am not looking for a midwife yet as I maybe referred to Obstetrician (sp?).
So exciting!

My GP has sent a request for a OB, but i may still be passed back to a midwife. I am not really sure, today has been a bit of a blur to be honest.
It wasnt my usual GP, she was booked today. Just wanted to get that blood test confirmation. I will go through everything with my own GP.

melanie - welcome to the Jan group! I am so pleased I found this site. It's so good being able to chat with different women who are due around the same time.
I am hoping to be able to stay with a midwife this time. Just depends if the hyperemesis and asthma behave themselves! It's really frustrating being under a specialist where we are cos there are no private ones anymore and in the hospital system you end up seeing aa whole bunch of different registrars and very rarely the actual specialist!
I really excited too but will be a lot more relaxed when I have got to 12 weeks as I will need to have some extra tests due to me being over 35. Kinda freaks me out just a little.
Have you worked out your ticker yet?

katte, thats my fear with a specialist... id rather see the same person, but will see how things pan out.
Good luck with the extra tests, fingers crossed for you.
i dont i know if its cos i am shattered or because i am having serious burping issues but i CAN NOT figure out how to get my ticker as my signature....
can anyone tell me how?????

Feeling like a big bloated beach ball today! Also had some serious twinges in the lower right abdomen. Still hasn't completely sunk in that I am actually pregnant. Far too exciting. Think I have sorted out a midwife. It is hard when you don't know them and yet are trusting them with looking after you and your baby. She seems pretty nice so far so should be no worries.

i was having serious twinges yesterday. had me a little freaked, but then i read that it was just my uterus stretching!
i have no desire for food today, and feeling quite ill. I didnt realise that started so early! sweet tea is the only thing i seem to be able to stomach.
hope everyone else is doing fine.
congratulations nictoddie!

Melanie - so sorry you aren't feeling well. I am very grateful every day that I wake up and don't feel sick. I know ms is probably inevitable for me but am soooo hoping it isn't as bad as with my first! If it's any consolation, everyone told me it meant baby was doing well and pumping out lots of hcg!

well healthy bub is whats important! I am more worried that it means there is a double dose of HCG, DH and I both have twins in the family... and guess what, both are due this generation!
other than that I am very excited (not that i wouldnt be happy with twins btw). We are going to DH's parents tonight to break the news. We decided to tell parents only before the 12 week mark.
we went and looked at baby clothes today... but refrained from buying anything. it is a weird feeling, i am a mum!

Plus I decided to do another HPT, just to see how quickly the result came up and how dark the line was... well after adding the urine to the quickcard, a positive result came up in 10 seconds!!! and the result line was a very dark pink as well.... good to know my liitle sprat is producing lots of hCG at the moment

I am with you on the caffeine withdrawals. I am a V addict so gave that up as soon as I found out I was pregnant. My body is not happy with that decision at all! My boobs haven't grown that much yet but are definately letting me know they are there!

congratulations nictoddie.
I am also a bad coffee addict and am trying to drink tea/milo instead as at least that isn't quite as bad. I would drink decaf but all the chemicals they use to get the caffeine out make it worse than the real stuff, not sure but might be the same with coke zero so probably good that its making you feel sick.
I have a general quesy feeling all day but don't feel too bad and am keeping up the snacking which is helping to a degree, hope it doesn't kick in as bad as it did with Spencer cos with him the thought of every type of food made me want to vomit and I barely ate for weeks, made up for it later in the pregnancy though
Boobies don't feel too bad at the moment, hopefully they will get sore soon (I know that sounds backwards but it means things are doing what they are suppose to)
I went to work today and am very tired now was suppose to sort a load of stuff out tonight but think I will veg out instead.

Is anyone finding they are waking up at stupidly early hours of the morning i.e. 5am and not being able to get back to sleep? Frustrating! I am a morning person anyway but this is just a bit ridiculous.

Just when you mentioned your midwife had passed away a friend of mine had her for her kids as well and mentioned it .......... and with the no private obs etc, as I am a Palmy mum as well and I will be having shared care with midwife/hospital as will be having elect c-section as have two previous , who did you get for a midwife? I have Megan Holloway who is a friend so will be nice had her as a student midwife with my son and did straight hospital with my daughter as did not think anyone would take be on being elect c had major complications with her and had her at 30 weeks, so hoping for a trouble free pregnancy this time round

nictoddie - thanks for that! Am looking at going through the same midwife place as you. Spoke to Jo Henwood yesterday. She seemed lovely and wasn't worried about taking on my problems from last time! If my asthma or hyperemesis kicks in again I will probably end up under the hospital but am doing everything in my power not to! Had an emergency C-section last time but am going to try for a natural this time as I had a placental tear last time so all going well I should be able to push him/her out! Kinda scary as I haven't gone through the birthing process so all the unknowns are there again for me as if I was a first time Mum.

Hey Katte, I am kind of the same as Spencer was breech so I had a c/s. I did experience some labour pains as my waters broke and I went into labour at 35 weeks (and didn't know he was breech till I got to the hospital), but my labour stopped though so I spent 3 weeks in hospital and then had an elective c/s at 38 weeks. So have experienced some of labour but not full on stuff.
Am a bit worried as they couldn't explain why my labour kept starting but not progressing, I was prepped for emergency c/s 4 times and then because things didn't progress they just sent me back to the maternity ward to wait. They threatened to fly me to either wellington or sydney at one point as well cos of the lack of neonatal beds in Christchurch and the rest of the country. Luckily as he stayed put till 38 weeks we didn't need to worry about that in the end.

I know this is going to sound completely insane and those of you that have ms are going to want to smack me one, but I am finding it very unnerving that I am not feeling even remotely sick. It is actually worrying me as I was so incredibly sick with my first pregnancy that I am going 'what is wrong'! Boobs are only slightly aching but the only real major pregnancy signs I am getting are sharp twinges from my uterus, positive HPT's and missed af! I'm sure I will start praying to the porcelein god in the next week or two but it doesn't even feel like I am pregnant! Odd

How is everyone this evening?
I had my second appt with my GP today, she did a vaginal and cervical swab to make sure I don't have bacterial vaginosis or thrush...
My GP also told me the results from my antenatal screening blood test, and everything is normal I also finally know my blood type, which is O+..
And I thought my breasts were the most sore and tender yesterday.... well I was wrong
