Oh Yay Ferny thanks I'm always to chicken to start anything

Would anybody like to meet up on the 11th of June?

My suggestion was a cafe in Westcity I like the "Koffee Bar" downstairs outside Farmers. I suggested westcity because of the weather but I'm open to suggestions if anyone else has any ideas.

Forgot to add a time.
Hows 10.30ish I'm usually there anyway (I'm such a Mall rat )

I'm easy on times Alyssa sleeps whenever now as she is changing from two sleeps to one so anytime suits me.
If she needs a sleep I'll just go earlier and walk around the shops usually she drops off in her pram.

I've been so busy at work I've hardly had a chance to check back here. If anyone wants to meet up tomorrow I'll be checking back in the morning before 8.30. Need to go to Westgate tomorrow so we could meet up there or at Westcity either is fine with me. I can fit both in if I start out early.

Welcome Laurenw- don't let the fact that you have to use nipple shields discourage you from breastfeeding, I had to use these too for the first couple of months of my boys life & within time I ditched them and learnt to bf without them! He's 15 months old now and still going strong on the breast. Totally thriving. Our story about breastfeeding battles will be in the upcoming OhBaby mag in July! Good on you for sticking with it.

And I can understand about being a little self conscious b/fing when out espesh with the shield. It does get better though and it's so worth it - it's a sacrifice we make to give our baby the best start in life. So easy and simple too - just flop them out whenever and wherever in a discrete manner!

Right girls, as you were!

Me too!!

I gave up b/f just last month! B/f is hard work, but gets easier and easier as time goes on! Stick with it if you can and defiantely don't give up if you enjoy it!

Totally agree!! I think it must be hard work using formula, I'm too lazy All that making up bottles and washing them etc.... As Steph said, I just have to flop out a boob!! Hehe.

Oh I just meant that with breastfeeding I don't have to worry about washing bottles, or buying the formula, or having to remember to bring everything with me when I go out. My point was more that bottle feeding isn't necessarily the way to go - in some cases certainly, but in others not so. I just think it's important to remember that all mums and bubs are different and we have to be careful of blanket statements.

Lauren, sounds like u and ur wee one are getting well into the swing of things together! You'll find it easier to feed in public discreetly too as time goes on

oh ok my misunderstanding hehe....no worries

i had start bottle feeding my lttle one cos she just wasent getting enuff from me. I do know that breast is best but in my case i had no choice than to switch to formula. Also the fact that she had slight dose of reflux,(wasent major), but shes all good now,so doesnt need her gaviscon now.

I have to agree, formula is way hard work! So is breastfeeding, but the hours I spent washing, sterilising and making bottles for these mad hooligans when they were on formula

I'm officially on leave now so providing baby doesn't arrive am keen to come to the next meet up.

Lurker in again

I'm totally the same re: way too lazy to even contemplate bottle feeding. I think with breastfeeding a lot of it is mind over matter. I set a goal & told myself I wanted to breastfeed until 2+ and I still (even though my boy is 15 months) breastfeed regularly throughout the day on top of normal meals. He's thriving, my milk supply is still high & we are both happy. Just a shame the boobs are starting to sag a lil LOL! But it's totally worth it. It's like the whole dummy debate, you go with whats more beneficial for mother and baby.

And wow Ferny, big ups to you for holding out on finding out the sex, I am way too impatient and HAD to know ...more or less because my family was pulling together to help get things for baby (I'm a single mother) and they were all nagging to find out the sex. Everyone told me right from the word go that it was a boy, so I went into my 19 week scan partially hoping for a girl because I hated the fact that everyone was already telling me how it was going to turn out. Couldn't have been happier, I'm so glad I had a boy for my first. But I like the idea of waiting, maybe if I go on to have anymore I will do just that.

Mum2Lucas, Breast feeding was ok for me only up until Naomi was 3-31/2months, was only from then onwards that problems started arising so bottle feeding was beneficial for her.

How did everyone know or think you were having a boy right from the word go? Big ups to your family also for helping you out considering your a single mum. I mean "if it wasent for your family, where would you be huh"..Whenever people asked me what am i having and i told them straight that i wasent finding out, i got some weird looks and them asking "how can you not find out"?? i just shrugged my shoulders and simply said "Easy - i just dont" lol...But hey thats just me ay ...BTW: did u have any cravings during your pregnancy?? I didnt really, was only just fruit juice with Vitamin C that i drunk alot of and that was it....

Its funny actually cause a couple of weeks ago I was stressing a bit that my supply wasnt enough for feeding him. Then I was like Ohhh i want to keep going. I am glad that I am sticking at it. I do express and feed him formular as well though. I do find sometimes he gets a bit lazy on me only cause he has to work for it!!
My hubby and I HAD to find out. I am too impatient. Glad that we did though, cause we have had heaps of handmedowns from family which has been great cause everyone has boys!
My mum reckoned that I was having a boy right from the beginning and she was right/

Posted By: Westy1
Date Posted: 23 June 2008 at 4:49pm

everyone gets handmedowns...Its great ay...especially if you can get expensive things like prams, cots etc....Theye cost the earth.....A friend of mine gave me 3 bags of baby clothes last month on 25th, Most of them fitted Naomi except for about 10 items. Saves us alot on money really thanx to her cos i dont need to go out and buy her any more clothes - not for a good while yet off anyhows...Speaking of reckoned, there was this girl working  next to where i work, she reckoned that i was having a girl, she was right too...Infact shes still to buy me a drink etc..deal was that if i had a baby girl she would buy me a drink and a bite to eat......Must be something as to how people get the feeling that so & so is having such n such eh...

Everyone told me I was carrying out the front ..I started showing at something crazy like 8 weeks! I was a stick prior to falling preg ...5 '2 and size 8 ...I ended up wearing size 16 tops by the time I was finished! Looked like I hada basketball stuffed down my top when I was 3 months lol

According to some if you carry all out the front it's boy ...and if you put the weight all around (ie. your tummy, back and bottom) your carrying a girl ...thats what they constantly told me

By the time I was 25 weeks I hated going out in public because it would be the same question everytime 'When are you due?' ...then I'd reply 4 months time ...*insert shocked face* ...'Is it twins?' ...'NO!!!!' Wow he's going to be one big boy! ...I guess they were right lol but he could have been bigger (he was 9lb)

Don't ya just love how strangers feel they have the right to interfere and make comments like that? Those kind of responses mixed with my Midwife & OB telling me Lucas was going to be 10lb + really put the fear of God into me! 9lb was a wicked size though, I had a terrible labour and birth, but I loved having a 'bigger' baby, I held my cousins 7lb 5ozer when she was a couple days old and she was so tiny in comparison - it scared me! Lucas came out with rolley poley legs! lol

And as for cravings, I ate onions (pickled onions - A LOT of pickled onions ...sometimes a jar in one sitting), crisp cold capsicum, gherkins gherkins and more gherkins ...you get the gist. I would often get my lunch at subway and order just a roll with those three toppings and lots and lots of Italian dressing. They looked at me weird

So back to the threads topic, how far out west are your meetups? I've never driven out those ways before but you ladies sound like a nice bunch

And Shaz is a fellow March Mummy whom I'm yet to meet!
