Hello,
My daughter is almost 8 months and has multiple allergies. I am currently bf her and have altered my diet accordingly. I would like to give her a bottle of neocate before she goes to bed to supplement her and also get her used to the taste, but she refuses to drink it. I tried putting golden syrup in it and that didn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get her to drink it? Thanks.

Ahhhh getting the little buggers to drink neocate, been through that.
As Spencer was already on formula we just mixed the two together but you can do the same with breastmilk if you are able to express some.
To start with we had to do 150ml of the old formula mixed with 30ml of the neocate and then I slowly increased the amount of neocate over the next week. (as you are only doing one feed it may take longer for her to get use to the taste).
The other suggestions I was given but never tried was to add a few drops of vanilla essence and then slowly wean off of that.

Good luck

Hi - my girl's on Neocate too.  Has your daughter had expressed breastmilk or anything else from a bottle before?  If she's fine with the bottle then you know it's the yukky taste of Neocate that she's refusing, but if not, then I guess there's a bit more work involved .  I balked at the suggestions of adding golden syrup, brown sugar or vanilla essence into a babies bottle until I saw that that's what Nutricia were recommending as a temporary measure, to help babies get used to Neocate!  Other than that, how would you feel about letting her get really really hungry for her milk, in the hopes that she might take it?  Sounds harsh, but when Neocate's their only option what else do you do?  Does she have a night feed at all?  If she does she might just be sleepy enough for you to sneak the bottle in her mouth for it and see if she starts drinking before realising how gross it is!  Also, is she on solids?  You could add it to some of her foods to help her become accustomed to the taste.

Hi
Thanks ladies. I did actually add some to her solids today and she screwed up her face and then ate the whole lot. I think the bottle may be part of the problem. She used to be fine with expressed bm from a bottle. Her last few experiences with the bottle have not been so good. I tried to supplement her with formula at 5.5 months as I didn't have enough bm and she reacted straight away and ended up in hospital for the night and after that it has only been neocate we have tried to give her from a bottle.
I think I will keep adding it to her solids until she gets used to the taste and then go straight to a cup, might be easier. Thanks again.

Sorry can't help on the neocate problem, but just a tip on the bottle problem! My DD rejected the bottle for weeks, so to get her onto it I put some water in it and put it down on her play mat with her toys. She started playing with the bottle and then started sucking it and realised she got something from it. I let her play with it every day for a week or so and then eventually I put the formula into it and let her play with it again.

I can confidently say she is now a fully formula fed bottle baby as of last month!
