My Dr has just put me on this today after going in there to get more losec for Noah & Lola she then asked me how I was coping and I had a meltdown in front of her.

Basically she confirmed what I have suspected for awhile but was to scared to do anything about.

So has anyone else been on this? How long did it take for you to start feeling "normal" again?

This is what I was prescibed at the end of March. The lady from MMH on ny next visit told me about 6 weeks and I should really start to feel the effects, and it was about right. I was also lucky in the fact that it was about the same time that I started to get some decent sleep - may have been the drugs helping or the extra help I got at the time.

*Big Hugs* It's always hard to face up that this might be happening, but speaking up is often a good start to recovery

I've been on it sweetheart - it's one of the best, and it's really kind to you side-effects wise    I react to just about everything, and I didn't have any problems at all with it. It got me through one of the blackest periods of my life a few years ago.

You start to feel normal again quite quickly believe it or not ... one day things are all shades of grey, and within a few weeks you start to see the world in colour again. I hope she's building up your dose over a few days/weeks? I found that was a good way to start off. Also, don't be fooled into thinking that you should come off them again once you start to feel better - give it time and let yourself get back on your feet.

Remember too that a benefit of ADs is that they clear your head enough to actually work through the basic issues that are causing the problem, and it's really important to do. When you feel you can, as hard as it may be, sit down with DH and work out what you can do to preserve your health. That's how my first draft of the happy-credits plan was born

Remember - there's nothing to be scared or ashamed of. Every body hits the wall now and again. If you let people know, they can help scrape you off again    AD's aren't a quick fix, but they are the helping hand you need some times.

I haven't been on those ones but just to let you know we're all here for you hun. Some people don't like taking AD's but they were a lifesaver for me.

I hope you see life 'in colour' again, as Ginger said, soon.

I've been on these ones for about 4 months now. I was pretty much at rock bottom for me. I had been petrified about the whole idea of taking meds.

The first couple of weeks were hardish - it seemed each day i had a different side effect - but those really are just while your body gets used to it. I take it the same time each night before bed, about 9.30ish and just made sure that i had heaps of water to drink those first few weeks to combat headaches and dry mouth etc.   I kept wondering "hhm, I feel a bit better, I wonder if they're working?" but then, one day i found myself not wondering and analyzing anymore - and it was truely then i realised that yep - they were working! was bout 2 - 3 weeks, and in that time i did have days where i felt worse.   I can't remember who else said it, but sleep is a big thing too, and i said that to my doc when i went back for the follow up 3 weeks after starting, and he reminded me that often, people that are depressed have alot of sleep problems despite being so tired. Once the meds start correcting the imbalance, you start getting better sleep, which helps even more.    Sleep (lack of it)is a huge trigger for me

Hang in there, you're doing the right thing, and these ones are actually very gentle as opposed to Aropax etc.

Meh - don't worry! If there's a side effect to anything, I get it in spades (I got the entire bl*ody list on my fertility drugs) and I had no ill effects from citalopram. Your body is being allowed to adjust to it slowly which is the important thing. You'll be fine.

I've been on citalopram, and I found it fantastic. The first couple of weeks were weird, I felt really spaced out and kinda dopey. Then all of a sudden they kicked in and I started to feel.... well, normal

I had a side-effect though, one which is quite common but really annoying.... I couldn't, ahem, orgasm. Not a once the whole time I was on them

Big hugs to you floss    Hope things start looking rosier for you really soon.

My first time on here but am at ease to see there are others out there in the same situation as me.
Good on you for taking them it is a hard thing to get your mind around. I was on them prior to having baby and then got really bad after he was born. He is 7 months now and I started them about 8 weeks ago things picked up a lot after about 3 weeks.
It is really hard going but you will get there soon! Persevere with them and dont stop taking them. THey are brilliant to be on and will really help you even if it doesnt feel like it today but they will.

Ginger, what you described was exactly how it was for me last year, it was like someone all of  sudden took the filter off and everything was back in colour.  I didn't have any side effects from it either.  Hang in there Floss things will get better.
