I've been gluten-free for 5 weeks except for two tiny slips (toast crumbs, and a tempting crumb of pancake - I forgot!) So now it's time to do the gluten challenge to see how sick I can get This is particularly important because my blood tests came up negative (out of me already cutting too much gluten from my diet beforehand, by accident). Dr wants me to reintroduce gluten before wheat so we can know exactly what the issue is.
So since last night, I have had soup mix containing gluten (must check exactly what's in it that's gluteny!), two milos, a bowl of porridge, and a bowl of cornflakes. At first I didn't react at all and I was thinking, uh oh this is gonna take longer than I thought. But the tell-tale signs started after lunchtime today.
I am relieved, and yet I feel sick and yucky but not bad enough yet...
But the diagnosis is well and truly in sight!

Yay that is so good Teresa that the actual diagnosis isn't too far away for you.

It sounds like a stressful process. I only know whats its like from testing Islas intolerances. Glad that the diagnosis is closer for you, but sorry you are feeling sick. Hope its sorted soon!

Just for anyone who is following my progress....
I had my last gluten-containing meal at breakfast time this morning. Dr apmt first thing, he agrees that I am gluten intolerant. He can't see any point in going for a biopsy as the outcome (diet) is still the same, regardless. I have had one more round of blood tests which may or may not show antibodies because I was only eating gluten stuff for four days before I couldn't handle it anymore.
So... gluten intolerant! oh, so nice to have a diagnosis after so long. Thanks to all who have listened, counseled, offered recipes, gone to endo talks with me, over the last year. Oh but I'm so glad it's over!

At least you know now, but bummer all the same. So were you feeling really good when you were off gluten?

That's great that you finally have an answer, bummer about having to be gluten free but at least now there are lots more yummy things made that are gluten free.

Yep, absolutely! In the end I only last 3 1/2 days back on gluten, stopped on Wednesday morning (saw dr, had blood tests, went back to corn crackers!) and I am still suffering the consequences (bowels) Also I felt very very sleepy, low motivation, difficult concentration for all of that time and for yesterday as well - obviously takes some time to get through the system - but fortunately not today as someone was off sick today so it was super-busy!
Thanks all for your support
