Am thinking weather or not to start giving Brae pocket money for doing his chores. He knows how to count & basic addition & subtraction etc. Would he be to young? Do others give pocket money?
Reason im thinking about it is everytime we go to the shops he wants something & i thought he could start saving his own money & learning the value of it, as some of the things he wants are expensive ------------- Mummy of Two Boys B: 2004 K: 2007 |

No pocket money here. I get the kids treats every now and then and they also get money on the odd occasion whenI m going shopping if tey want to buy something. Our girls don't get paid for chores, they do get thanked, especially now as paris will go on occasion and just make her own bed etc - for that she gets praised.
We used to put $1 a week in each of their money boxes and they would know that if there was something little they saw that they needed to save up. They also use that sort of thing sometimes if we got to galas etc so that they can go on a ride or such like. It makes them feel even more special that they saved for it themselves etc. and was good as they learn money when deciding what things they'll spend their money on and those places. I think if you are going to do it, either do it consistently, or don't. giving it for chores can be hard as it them sometimes becomes a bone of contention "if you don't do this then no pocket money for you..." etc. Still put it in a money box consistently. If he hasn't helped etc that week then no that week he can't actually use it for something. He is still little though. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

| For pocket money - we have already decided what we are going to do. Every week the kids will get some money regardless $1 per age or something. Then they can get extra money by completing special chores. Chores will be extra to what they are expected to do everyday - like clean the car (or more likely, help). For money boxes, i papaer mached ones for my niece and it has three sections. one is for spending, one for saving for a special toy and one for more long term saving. I want one like this for the kids as well. My parents also did a savings box for me, and matched me $1 for $1 |

Yea he is still little & i can see Kal wanting pocket money aswell, at 2, if not before

My sister started last week giving her 4 yr old $3 pw. He has a list of jobs to do and they get ticked off a calender everyday when they have been done (so he works like dad and mum for his money!) He wanted to spend his $3 last week so they went to town and he saw something he really wanted which was $8, my sister paid for it but it been put away in the cupboard until he has paid off his purchase (my sister says its going to be a long 2 weeks!!) He is not allowed it until it is totally paid for so he can learn about trying to save for what he wants. -------------

Yeah we do- we started when she turned 4- £2 per week. She saved up and bought these dolls she really wanted  It was so sweet watching her work towards them!------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3

You'll probably think this is odd but our 18 month old has a money box and we usually give her our 10 cent pieces every week. If we don't have anything that size she gets the next size up. She loves money!
