How long after a c section is it safe to start trying for a baby. DH wants to start trying in a couple of weeks, a couple of months before we planned to origionally. For some reason i had though it was about 1 year, buti'm not sure if i've just decided that or if someone told me.

No I think my MW suggested 1 year too... I think its more to be safe than sorry! I know that every one heals differently and therefore its hard to say how well every thing has settled down in there....I mean it is a major operation!

I didnt start trying till 7.5 months ago (as you can see) but original thought would try after DD became 1...only because thats what our MW Had said.

Just as a pointer...when I got pregnant with this one...at the early stages I felt kinds heavy, light burning feeling where my scar was...I got a bit scared but MW said its normal....but I was amazed how even after that long it was soooo tender down there. Its better now, but I am told it will become tender once again closer to time!

My doc said we were ok to when Spencer was just 7 months. She said there had been 7 months and would be at least another 9 before giving birth. Stretching from pregnancy itself isn't the problem its the stress of labour.

I had no trouble with my scar except for some itching at the start of the pregnancy but that has stopped now.

I would just check with your gp, I don't know the circumstances around your c/s so their recommendations are probably on a case by case basis. Mine was an elective and completely complication free, healed really well and fast.

Mine was emergency after PE etc and OB said a year was fine ...not sure if that meant waiting a year to get pregnant? so I would check with doc...but we are starting trying in Jan and he was born in feb..

Oh that's a year!

We were never told anything about TTC - just don't have sex for the first 6 weeks (but we were too impatient for even that lol). We conceived Briona when Hannah was about 10-11mos old and I had no problems at all. I had no issues with my scar during pregnancy or labour.

I wasn't told a time frame but we started when Leah was about 11 months. Had some itching and streching pain along the scar early on but just rubbed some biooil into every night to keep it supple. Had an episode 10 days before Joel was born with intense pain along the scar and was hospitalised overnight, but my BP had shot up at the same time so they were just being careful. Had no pain along the scar in labour though and had a VBAC.

I was told it's a year on average before you should TTC.

Thanks for the heads up about the scar feeling tender, must try to remember that so I don't go running scared to the MW

I will check with the doc as i have an appointment early next week anyhow. I recoverd very quickly from the c section and had a really good time with it so i don't think it will cause a problem, My mother concieved me 4 months after a c sections and did have problems, but she also had a messy c sectionswith lots of complications.

Interesting about the itching, makes sence though!

I was told about 18 months between births, so bubs 9 months, then 9 months of pregnancy. But this was in regards to scar rupturing when trying to have a VBAC so maybe it's different if going ERCS???

ok went to doc today, Basically he said that i had heeled very well and that there should be no problems, he did say that the specialist that examined me at the hospital noted that i was very low chance of a VB in future as this c section appeared to be caused by structural issues with my hips.

He then warned me that it could be up to 3 months before i ovulate after coming off the pill and may take up to 6 months to concieve (i've bloody heard that before lol DD took 6 weeks to concieve), and to come back to him if we had not concieved after a year.
