Whew ! Didn't know if I could cram everything into the title LOL
Had my physio appointment this morning, which was really good - am going to go weekly, but have my Bella Mama massages as well, which I must remember to book She gave me an exercise to do for my back, which should be quite good, and if I do it regularly could help with labour as well.
Had my appointment with my "new" midwife as well, and I'm stoked - I really like her and her approach to things, so I think it will go pretty well Am even quite seriously contemplating a water birth, as it was one of the things I had wanted to ask about anyway. Still planning to deliver at Birthcare too, which is good
And I *almost* forgot again, as I was supposed to do it last night, but booked in for antenatal classes at North Shore Hospital. They'll be on Thursday nights for six weeks and the lady I spoke to said it was good timing for when I'm due, we'll finish up when I'm about 33 weeks I think. There are going to be eight couples in total, I'm almost more interested in how Roland is going to find the classes than what I might find out or learn LOL
Anyway, that's all my "news" really, am going to TRY and sign off soon, another early start tomorrow (7am, ick !)...

Hey Jax I can not stress enough just how much easier labour is in the pool - BIG TIME!!!!!
The comparison of a contraction out of the birthing pool compared to in the water is just so amazing.
My midwife was very pro water birth and we decided late into the pregnancy that we would have one. I unfortunately didn't deliver in the pool. My labour began at 1.30am, went to the hospital at 3am and straight into the pool. I got out a couple of times to go to the loo and check dilation. Then I had to get out at 6.50am so the midwife could break my waters. The instant she did that I had to push continuosly and couldn't get off the bed. Delivered at 7.02am.
So I was bit gutted i didn't get to have my delivery in the pool BUT my point is it makes labour so much easier!!!!!!!
And a little tip for those who are going to deliver if standing on your head naked on the roof of the hospital makes labour easier -you will do it!!!!!!!
I used no pain relief either because of the pool, had no stitches and Sam was 9lb11oz. Hoping the pool contributed to that and not that fact that possibly I am like the grand canyon I was then home in my own bed by 9.30am!

Personally, I found a spabath more hygenic than the birthing pool - not because of any previous users or anything like that, but rather because my midwives were able to keep refreshing the water as I made a mess of it!
I don't think I have the option of a water birth this time... after 2 of them, I'm not sure what a "bed" birth will be like!

labour in the pool is wicked its so much easyers and the warmth of the water makes the contrctions so much easyer to bear

Well, with everything being so normal, I am quite happy to plan for baby to be born in the pool as well - but will not be terribly heartbroken if it doesn't actually happen that way. I have always found water wonderful and supportive and just thought that for such a big event, why not ! I'm not going to tell my mum for a while though, because I think it will freak her out - she is doing more than enough worrying for the both of us (she is somewhat sensitive to all this media carry-on I think).

I want to labour in the pool but not actually have this baby in it. I wanted to do the same with Kobe but wasnt able to. Im really worried about 'floaties' though, does the water get very messy?

As far as a pool goes, I have no idea...
I had both my babies in a bath... my midwives both times just kept refreshing the water around me, and washing the "floaties" down the drain. This also meant the water stayed at a fairly constant temperature, and she was able to adjust it to suit me pretty quickly. Nathaniel was actually quite impressed with how swiftly and discretely Gaenor was able to do it - she was so good, I had no idea until he told me that she had! I was aware that she'd warmed up/cooled down the bath at my request, but I didn't have to get out at any point once I was given the go-ahead to start pushing.

The pool temp remained comfortable the whole time i was in there, I recall Marie (midwife) adding water. It was very very hot in the hospital so I had a fan blowing on me as well.
As for floaties there certainly wasn't anything that I was aware of that was too gross. I do recall some stuff but I think it got scooped out. Hubbie never told me of groos stuff but I didn't push/birth in the water.
Obviously it is inevetable that there will be blood etc when you birth but it wouldn't be any worse than you laying/kneeling etc in what comes out.

Hi Deez,
Where are you going for the stretch and Tone classes? I would be quite interested in doing that. I have been told that its a good idea to get some of the muscles we dont normally use ready for labour.

Hi Erin,
I think it's at Waitakere hospital somewhere but in saying that i think they run the same classes at North Shore Hospital, i'll ask tonight when i go to my first antenatal class.
If you want you can ring them on 486 8920 ext 3048#, you'll just be asked to leave your name, number and expected due date, Barbara will call you back with details.
Either way i'll let you know what i find out tonight.

I must say that the worst thing about tonight was that the map we were given was TOTALLY useless, the rest of it was really average, and the "best" bit was meeting other people.
