Hi!!
I am still in my first trimester, but I have struggled to find any kind of groups, support groups, or social groups here in Dunedin. So here goes!
Are there any other Dunedinites out there?? Im out in Port Chalmers. This is my first pregnancy, I moved from Wellington 6 months ago, and still cant navigate my way through Dunedin
Has anyone has found any good local resources to share-??. Like where do you find Pregnancy Yoga in this town???
Kat

Kitkat, I am in Port Chalmers too!! It would be so easy to meet up! I was going to try and meet up with Littlebug (due in March like me) sometime soon, maybe this weekend, you guys keen to make it a group meet?
Do you have a midwife yet? If not, I have Rebecca Taylor, she's great and also lives in Port!

Hi ladies,
I wrote some emails to different places and the only response so far is from Back in Motion:
"We have developed Pilates Protocols for women in both the antenatal and postnatal stages of pregnancy. We have offered specific classes in the past but had a varied response, so to date women who are pregnant have attended our Level I or II classes and the instructor has tailored the exercises to suit their stage of pregnancy and ability.
At Back in Motion we run a series of private Pilates classes for small groups as well. We could certainly look at setting up an antenatal class Pilates if you have a group of 4 or more that are interested."
So there we have it. I will update as to any more leads on classes. I am going nuts. Im so stiff!

Hey Kat, that sounds cool, if its not too expensive I'd be keen for that. There's another lady at work due in April, she might possibly be keen, I'll ask her.

Kat, I've just been reading the "Star", and I saw an ad for "Pilates Preggy Classes" at Multipeak Fitness, Consultancy House. Will ring them on Monday to find out prices!

My partner tried to define Pilates to me. It was so funny- he said "Isnt it where you get a swiss ball and hold it in the air, above your head, then at your side, then sit on it etc.."
hmmmm

He he, that's funny Kat!
I forgot to bring the ad from the paper into work with me, I've been trying to find info or details on the internet - non-existent!
Hopefully they'll still be open when I get home, otherwise I'll have to call tomorrow.

Well, I got hold of them - Multi Peak Fitness hold one preggy pilates class a week, Friday at noon. The cost is $150 for 10 classes, and they do a health screen before you start.
I'm unsure if I'll be able to make it to these, I'll have to negotiate with my boss if I can maybe work in the office on Fridays from now on. Usually it depends on the weather and how much fieldwork we have on as to whether I'm in town on any one day!
Kat, did Back In Motion give any indication of prices if we got a group big enough?

I got a response from Configure Express, I asked if you needed to be a member to ATtend classes::
"We sell concession cards for clients that are solely going to do the odd class. It is $110 for 10 classes. Some people find this economical and others who use the classes/ gym more regularly will tend to purchase a term of membership as this may be better value. If you just want to give me a call/email as to when you would like to come and try a class that would be great."
And as for BIM- I just rang them
They are like a private gym... and do Matt classes on an 8 week rotation, the next one isnt till next year (8 weeks for $80) and it is in the pm, they also have 1 on 1 sessions. The private classes of 4 or more are really expensive, and pose a potential logistical for organising a time to suit everyone. $150 for 6 sessions.
The personal 1 on 1 sessions sound quite good but not very social :(
They are $65 phr, or $35 1/2 hr. ANd youd need a couple of sessions... the woman makes up a routine/programme for you and you can do it at home.
OR- There is a deal on at the mo- for $400 you get 20 weeks of unlimited use of the facilities and some 1 on 1 and a programme.
phew- She is sending me a brochure.
Configure Express sounds the cheapest, and most flexible for hours. Not so specific to the bump crew tho

Hey, thanks for all that info Kat! I feel a bit weird about going to a normal Pilates class, where I'd be the odd person out having to alter positions... probably a bit paranoid, I know!
Might find out if I can wrangle work hours to do the Multipeak Fitness classes in a couple of weeks. Forgot to mention the sessions are supposed to be about 50 mins long, so fit into an hour-long lunch break if you're lucky enough to have one!

Im keen as. In welli for 3-6th feb but sooner is good too
I reakon Mojo is pretty good- on Princess St at that big intimidating intersection that I hate so much. Thats if you want to do a cafe... Im easy and open to suggestion. In fact I picked last time so that lets me off I reakon!!!
Im a no go for Pilates tommorrow- bummer. Feeling bit fragile, and no transport either. full of excuses I know... I could catch the bus. Im finding noise a bit hard to cope with at the mo.

I could possibly do 2nd Feb, Chloe's birthday party is on the 7th though! Also depends on what time you are meeting, if I am looking after Chloe by myself that day (I have to fit my life around her nap times).
But I'm keen to meet up, if I can!

We are going to the next level with Port noise- Let the games begin.....
Apparently the stuff you get in pregnancy is ussually what happens in menopause- yay- so migranes are something I may need to learn to live with. great. They suck- had my first on friday, Sat, sun. Thankyou Port Otago.
Blah- sorry thats enough complaining.

Im unsure about 2nd at this stage but wil be living in dunedin from approx the 24th of feb so can always catch up then if 2nd dosent work
|

The log boats are a breeze honey! its the big containers- we call them thumpers as their engines thump all night... and the alarms on the fork lifts out on Boiler Point.
We are getting somewhere though- some sound engineers are coming to asses our position etc etc
Im keen to meet on the 2nd and the 24th.... I dont really know anyone here so itd be nice to touch base. The 2nd is a Monday- I wonder if a Sun is a better option?
Maybe if its nice- we could meet in a park??? big gamble in dunedin though! lol
