... for Jett.  I took him to a naturopath today to get some idea what exactly he's allergic too and to try & control his eczema.  First suggestion is to try single foods again i.e. pumpkin one day, kumera the next and do this for  four days, then maybe try pumpkin again on the fourth day etc, for a month.  He's to have gluten free bread, no dairy or wheat (as this is the most common allergy we'll try elimating these first).  He's to have a probiotic, and fish oil as well.  Not allowed to use any of the creams prescribed from the Dr even the aqueous cream, she looked at the label and it's derived from petrol!!  I thought it was pretty much natural!

I also have to take the probiotic and fish oil since I'm BF him, and need to keep my foods simple too.  This will be soo hard for both of us.  I know I will have to control my diet, but trying to get Jett to eat plain foods again might be a battle.

We're to try this for a month, and see if we can introduce wheat & dairy back into this diet.  It's going to be a loooong month!

Good luck Italiah! Poor wee Jett! Hopefully it won't be too stressful for you. I had a bugger of a time trying to keep Mercedes dairy free after she developed temporary lactose intolerance following Rotavirus at 13 mths. They were dairy free till 10 mths without any probs but once she started having it it was so hard to get her off it again! Mind you she was FF so it meant changing her formula, whereas Jett is still BF.

Stink! That sounds like a bit of a mission, Italiah. I hope you get answers and in the meantime, have my sympathies.

Could they not test him for food incompatibility? Our Naturopath uses muscle testing (and other techniques) to identity which foods don't agree with our DS. We have found this sort of testing even agrees with his specialists allergy diagnosis.

This might give you a better idea of what foods he is allergic or intollerant to as I'm not sure what sort of success you will have with trying single foods as they can remain in Jett's system (and in your milk) for up to 6 weeks.

All the best - I know it's a tricky situation to be in!

The naturopath said he was too young for muscle testing?  She said she normally does do that.

But we found out the hard way yesterday what else he's allergic too after I'd given him a poached egg for breakfast (he'd had egg before, so didn't think anything of giving it to him), but about 1.5 hrs later he had a bad reaction - swelling in the face and eczema flaring up.  We spent the day in hospital for observation.  It was a hidieous experience!!

He shouldn't be too young, Italiah. Our DS has been muscle tested twice. Once at about 3 months and again at about a year old.

They go me to hold him and him hold the food being tested and used my fingers. We found it really reliable -although initially it missed his egg allergy. It has picked up all the others as well as some intollerances.

I can definately sympathise. It's not fun finding these things the hard way.   Especially as our DS (like yours) never reacts the first time he has something. Sometimes he has had something 20+ times, then we get a reaction!
