Okay so I don't know a lot about allergies... but I'm pretty sure Chloe is allergic to egg.
We gave her some egg about 2 weeks ago, for the first time, and about 5-10 mins after having it, she threw everything up. I wasn't sure if it was the egg or whether she was just having a funny day (she quite often gags on food and throws up, she has a super gag reflex although she is getting heaps better with chunks now). ANYWAY... We tried some egg again today, and she only had a couple of wee spoonfuls in addition to her usual lunch, and about 15-20 mins after having it her skin went all red and blotchy on her face and tummy, and then she got really upset and was vomiting for about 2 hours. Poor wee thing didn't have anything left to vomit up and was just gagging, after a while. She wouldn't touch any food for the afternoon, after that, but her blotchey skin has cleared up now and she ate dinner fine. Does this sound like an allergy? I'm certain it was the egg the second time around. And if so, what should I do about it, should I take her to see a Dr or do I just avoid egg? Just a note that she seems to tolerate egg in biscuits and things okay... ------------- Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years). |

I know my BIL is allergic to egg yolks by themselves, but in baking and stuff like that he is fine. I think waiting till the new year period is over and going to your dr to get a skin prick test down is the best way to work it out. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I would definitely ask your doctor for the skin prick, although some won't do it until they are a little older than Chloe. Sam had hers done at 13 months. Sam breaks out in the rash and her face swells. A few times she has vomited as well. She used to tolerate egg in baking or so I thought, but can't have anything with egg at all now( before I realised how bad the allergy was) , There are some good egg alternatives in the supermarket for baking where you don't even know the difference. I personally would be removing all egg until you know for sure, just in case. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Yeah it sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Spencer is allergic to egg (he's never had egg but it came up on his skin prick test), he was recently retested and the reaction was less so we have been told we can trial egg in baking as his system will probably tolerate a little bit of egg but he couldn't cope with an omelette. It sounds like your little one is the same as she has had no reaction to egg in the baking that she has had.
However allergies can build up, so they are ok with a little and then when more and more is introduced it causes a reaction and then they can react to even a little bit (I hope that makes sense). So If I was you I would keep her completely off egg until you see your gp and ask for either a referral to an allergy specialist or the gp can give you a form to go to medlab and have the skin prick tests so you can an indication of how bad the reaction is. The skin prick test doesn't hurt, Spencer has had two and found both ticklish. -------------
