Jackson is being referred to the hospital due to poor weight gain. I am sure it is reflux related, but the omeprazole doesn't seem to help.

He is waaay under the 3rd percentile for weight vs length. I am certain that if he would just eat more, he would gain weight. I just don't know how to get him to take more food. You can't force a baby to eat!

But I am really struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel. I need to know that developmentally Jackson is going to be ok and that this is eventually going to get better. I am worried that failure to thrive means that he will be developmentally delayed and will not meet milestones.

Did anyone else have babies with exceedingly low weight ever catch up? What steps did you take to help this happen?

Sorry for the pity party.

Sorry I cant give you any good news etc just  , as mums we don't need to be given something else telling us we aren't doing the best for our baby - somethings we just cant control.

I hope things get better for you and Jackson soon and I love his pict next to his ticker he looks like an absolute angel.  All the best

Big hugs to you!!

Our wee fella was born prem then had problems with reflux and allergies and a small tumour (not cancerous) so for the first 6-9 months he didn't do things when other children his age were.

However he is now 20 months, very tall and solid for his age and doing everything a child of his age is.

If I can work out how to put a picture on here I will show you a then and now picture. I wont say it was an easy first year but there are plenty of ladies on here to help support you through

Awwww, Laurie - it's worrying stuff. Ella ended up in that 3rd lowest percentile too - she gradually made her way there after being born a good healthy weight. I couldn't get food into her either - and lord knows I tried, but you're absolutely right, you can't force them to eat more (and trying to will only end in tears for everyone!). In Ella's case, she didn't start to gain more weight until she self-weaned from breastmilk to Neocate at 9 months old. So as a 9-monther, she was plain skinny! Developmentally though, nothing went amiss. By 1 year old the Doc's thought she may be hearing impaired, as she was slow to develop speech, and didn't appear to register hearing instructions or some sounds. She was thoroughly checked out, and her ears are very healthy and work just fine! She was just simply strong-willed, not deaf (funny kid!). Her speech developed in leaps and bounds after then, and she's talking all her mates down now. Every other developmental milestone - no problems. She's a healthy weight as a toddler, too, which is nice for my nerves! Not heavy, but plenty healthy enough. And has TONS of energy (right from day 1). So please be reassured that even these skinny little beans do turn out just fine! I'm glad you're getting some support from the hospital - hopefully there's some answers/solutions in there for you.

My DD was hospitalised twice at 1 week old and 2 week old (despite she was a homebirth baby!!!) due to severe gastro reflux, dehydrated and weight loss, she had no weight gain after birth for a while. Since then her weight was yo-yo at under 3th centile while she was still bf 100%, had to have weight checked every 3 days, then weekly then monthly till she was 12months. She was size of 6 month old baby at 12month old and she have came lept and bound since. She is now will be 3 next weeks and she is now stood just over 75th centile in height (!!) and her weight is at 50th centile. She is also a very bright kid with a very good development and speech skill, and full of energy!! Having been there before, I wasn't worry about my DS2's poor weight gain this time. I know he will get there eventually and he did.
