Hey Ladies (and any men floating about

Just wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction here - I'd like to attempt (with the help of my brother) to make a Wooden Playhouse for outside for Lucas' 2nd Birthday. I have around 8 weeks to do so, what I need to know is if anyone has seen anything along these lines (ie. kitsets) or can provide me with a set of instructions/DIY fact sheet (like the ones Bunnings & Mitre 10 used to print for free back in the day). I'm secretly hoping that someone on here has done a DIY playhouse too and can give me some pointers, list of materials and tools needed etc. I've tried looking up TM for second hand ones that I could paint up but they are still pretty darn expensive, I was hoping to do it for around $150-$200 ...if I could get all the materials for less that would be fab (but meh I'm probably dreaming here!)

Just an idea really, I'm stuck for ideas for what else I can really give him for his bday as he's spoilt rotten and basically has everything already , thought if we tried to make something ourselves and paint it up his fave colours, and have a little garden in planters outside it, it would be a nice personal gift iykwim! And it should last ages.

Any ideas, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks heaps

Awwww good luck! The cheapest that I have seen is $500, then you have to get the materials!

We got one from Trade Me and my dad took it home and painted it and really did it up. Cost us $150 for the playhouse.

Maybe that is an option?

This is our new playhouse.

Sorry to steal your limelight!!

Steph, go to bunnings and mitre 10 websites - they still have lots of plans available to print off. My dad printed off the planter box instructions yesterday.

You can also buy plans off TM - for about $10.

We are making one for Char's 3rd birthday. Its probably going to cost about $400 all up with materials and some help from my brother who is a builder.

The ones on TM are so expensive to buy - like some on there for $2K! How crazy!

Steph I found some free plans online when I was looking awhile ago.  Just google DIY playhouse plans and there's heaps, they range from castles and manors to basic playhouses and some look really easy to put together.

GOOD LUCK!! DH decided to build one for Arna for christmas (he is a builder) so far it has a floor and 2 sides... might be christmas this year she will actually be able to play in it!!

With him being a builder he is just designing it as he goes and has got timber etc from work.

The easiest thing to do would be TradeMe and even if you go around building companies (sites not that stores!) and ask if anyone knows anything... most builders are quiet so may be able to point you in the right direction.

Once again... GOOD LUCK!

Random post about nothing is now over!!

Steph - We're building a playhouse too. I've been lucky though as the guys at work took delivery of some large equipment that was in a 2m x 2m crate and that will be the basic shell of the house, we've managed to get some 7mm packing plyboard for free from one of DHs product suppliers so all we need to get is some more framing and build a roof. I hope it's as easy as I've made it sound LOL

Sometimes it works out cheaper to buy a ready made one than spend $$$s on tools and materials. In saying that you really can't put a price on watching your baby have so much fun with something you made yourself
