Hi,

Not sure how many kiwis have heard of Jade, but she was always in the tabloids when I was in the UK.

To have terminal cancer at 27 and leaving two small boys behind, is just very very sad and very scary.

Thats the one, famous really for being loud and not very clever.

Apparently she's documented most her time through her cancer to promote awareness and it has increased the no of ladies getting their smears done which is good, but only just found out it spread and there is nothing they can do - just too sad and so young.

Has reminded me my smear is overdue, the nurse keeps ringing, think i'll make an app tomorrow.

No I asked that you can't have them when preggers, and you need one every 3 years.

The media won't be giving her space apparently she's decided to document the whole thing on tv.

Aw, that's so sad.

Last year one of my sisters friends (in her early 30s) died of cancer leaving her husband and 3 young kids, it's definitely not uncommon unfortunately the youthful myth about being invincible is just that.... a myth.

I think it is a great idea to document it (knowing who she is she wants to do it), bt I ain't keen on watching her die. That struggling to breath is horrible.

I will definately not be watching the doumentry if there is one. things like that are just too sad. Especially when children are left behind.

Will ask my dr. about it. From what I remember its not that high up is it that they take the sample?

Personally - sad she is dying - sad when anyone dies, especially having young children, but she spent her whole life trying to be famous without any actual reason to be, now as she dies, she'll be famous again - I' msorry but that is gross. blah blah blah - publicity to promote smears - to me, it is tacky, and I would be really hesitant to expose my children and families grief at that time - My death would be worth more than 30 minutes entertainment for the masses.

tacky tacky tacky

I agree in many ways lizzle about exosing family in a hard time, but I'm glad I know about her as it reminds me to go and do these things. And I'm sure it will make other people get checked. you never know, it may even help save a life.

Oh wow, i remember watching her on big brother. So sad.

My friends mother recently had to have a hysterectomy because they found abnormal cells. she hadnt been checked for a very long time and just happened to get called in and checked for something else when they found them.

Its quite a scary thing.

You only pay your normal doctors fee, and once you've been you only need to go every 2 years.

Very sad. RIP Jane... My heart goes out to her and her family...xox

We pay $15 for a smear & the nurses do it not the DR....I know of some people that go to the STD clinic and get it done coz it's free...

So sad

Bex, its usually only $25 or $45 for the thin prep one, i had the thin prep one in November, we dont have a lot of $ either but smears are so so important, this sad story proves that.
Its definitly not $60 for a smear, give your dr a call and ask, its usually the nurse who does it anyways.
