I understood that sex can be uncomfortable/painful after a c-section when you first venture back down that road but I've gotten a bit of a shock at exactly how painful it is. 'Uncomfortable' doesn't really describe it!
For those of you who have experienced this - does it take very long to come right? I'm a bit terrified just quietly - it was really teeth-clenching/lip biting/brough tears to my eyes and not in a good way!

yeah i had that too, it took about 3 months for it to stop hurting like that, and then another 3 months before there was no discomfort at all.
although i have since found out it shouldnt be like that, but it also hurts me majorily when i have internal exams etc....maybe its something to talk to the midwife, specialist, doctor about

Eeek! you have all scared me. just been googling and it seems EVERYONE has this problem following c-sections. I must admit, my smear hurt a little when OB put the speculum in. Said it was due to lack of oestrogen with breastfeeding so maybe thats it.
Maybe I need to express off some bottles and then have a few drinks first

It just felt like virginity again for me, basically, so after a couple of times I was back into the swing of it. I put it down to good muscles lol. We also use KY jelly until things come back to normal as well.
Incidentally, it's worse after a VB because you are swollen and sometimes stitched as well. We first did it 4 weeks after H was born (c/s) but 7-8 weeks after the other two (VB)!

LOL!
I just wanted to say, we were naughty and were back at it only 3 weeks after my c section, and it was really good So not eveyone has the same problem!
Hugs to those of you that do though
Come to think of it we were still... y'know... up to a week before JJ arrived so maybe it's not the c section itself so much as a period of abstinence combined with all the ligaments etc streching iykwim?

It was a little sore after the c/s but did come right after not very long, just use lots of lube to start with especially if breastfeeding as that dries you out (as my mw so nicely put it).
It's hurt more this time around after a 2nd degree tear and episiotomy So much so that we have only attempted it that one time and I had to get DH to stop. I will be talking to the doc next week when I have my IUD fitted, although really with this kind of pain there is no need for any contraception. I had an internal that hurt before we had sex but I just figured that I had got a nurse that was a bit heavy handed.
Ginger I would talk to your doc if it's that painful as I don't think it is normal, is why I shall be having the embarrassing chat myself.

Nope wasnt sore for me at all. I bled for 6 weeks then got period so we only did it at about 8 or 9 weeks but wasnt sore at all. We were super careful of the c-section area and took things slowly but never once hurted.

Okay it SHOULDN'T hurt unless you are talking about the wound where you were cut open With my first c-section I was enthusiastically doing the wild thang about 2 weeks after, no pain etc. My second c-section was only about 10 days after.... Actually after my natural birth it was about a week or 10 days too.
Thats probably why I had 3 kids 3 & under...
Anywya I would get a check out, with your doctor or maybe a gynaecologist. It don't think it should be like that at all.

It turns out, it just needed some dedication to the cause I'm not sure what the cause was/is, but it's gradually coming right.
Thanks so much everyone for your feedback - I really appreciate(d) it!

LOL @ "dedication to the cause" that is SUCH a brilliant way to put it!!
On a more serious note, good that it is coming right. Something that is often a problem which I forgot to mention is that it is natural after childbirth for down there to tighten up because with normal birth it has to... When you have a c-section your body still "tightens up" even though Bubs has not actually gone through the birth canal.....IYKWIM? Also a common thing also to happen is a lack of self lubrication...

Oh god, I am petrified now! Not that I have any desire to be getting busy right now, I certainly will be making sure I have some lube handy before we go down that road again.

I remember asking my MW at 2 weeks when I could BD again and she looked suprised to say the least lol! I think we did it at 4 weeks as per MW instructions and it was fine although a bit tight and definitely needed the lube.
ETA: To clarify the MW instructions related to the timeframe not the actual act lol

I was told by the docs to wait 6 months PP until DH and I even attempt to BD, due to the horrid recovery I had during thr first 6 weeks PP.
We did try it once at 4 months PP, and it too sore. We didn't even do the whole hog, and I couldn't believe how tight everything was, even though we used a tonne of lubrication. And I think all of the oxytocin that whizzes around your body when you are breastfeeding desensitises everything down there

It wasnt too bad, was armed with plenty of lube. It did hurt, but I was prepared for that.
I think after a few more rounds we should be back to normal.
