JUNE/JULY 1ST BIRTHDAY PARTY & 'SECRET BABY'

I know it is still almost 3 months away, but I thought we needed a centralised thread to get ourselves organised, cos I keep asking the same questions then forgetting who's said they're coming and doing the present thing.

So, here are the details so far!

DATE Saturday 27th June, 2009

TIME TBA - any suggestions on this one? Lunchtime? Early afternoon?

LOCATION Kaukapakapa Fire Station, northwest of Auckland (it's 35 mins from the harbour bridge or the end of the northwestern motorway) - directions later

ACCOMMODATION Those who live out of town or on the other side of Auckland have a few options for places to stay. There's room for a couple of families to stay at my place, just up the road from the fire station, I also believe Emma (Maya) has offered a spare room, any other Aucklanders have a spare room or two?

WHO'S COMING?
Sign in here if your name isn't already down! Partners & siblings welcome, just let us know how many to expect please

Maya - Emma & Chiara, plus Maya & gremlins
weegee - Rach, JJ & DH
Flissty - Felicity, Daniel & DH
blondy - Andrea, Natalie (& DH?)
anakk - Anna, Clara & DH
sarahbetha - Sarah, Ryan & DH
kimmies - Kimberley & Matilda (FDH & Georgia?)
Kye - Kylie, Jayden & DH
sottise - Karen & Amelie (& DH?) (we will get you there one way or another!)

SECRET BABY!
This is an idea blatantly stolen from Jan/Feb (thanks guys!). We're doing a birthday present thing where we all put our names in and they will be secretly matched up (by lilfatty or MrsMojo) so we only buy a present for one other baby. This is open to everybody in our threads, not just those coming to the party, including those overseas (shopping online makes our world that much smaller... or maybe Hayzie and KK could supply an alternative (kiwi) address? Grandparents?)

So please also sign in if you can't make it for the party but are keen for the secret baby thing. I'm happy to be a receiving point for pressies so they can be handed out at the party. We can arrange addresses etc by PM once we're all sorted.

I'm proposing a $30 upper limit on presents, but this is an upper limit, not a guideline - spending less is perfectly acceptable. (I was going to say $20 but thought I'd give it a little more flexibility. Feedback welcomed, this can be changed!)

Bumpety bump! Last day to sign up! I want to start pressie shopping or creating so if you haven't signed up now's your chance, we'll be organising the matchup soon. I'm thinking as much as possible it'd be good to have opposite genders matched up - I know I would love to buy something girly for a change!

Auckland is just so far away for us - practically overseas!!! But I hope yopu all have a great time. Jamie will be turning 1 the week before and will have to spend the day in Queenstown watching big sis play soccer.

congrats to all you first time mums who have made it through the first year. I t is likely to be the most intense, frustrating and hardest year you will ever go through but so totally worth it.

I got a quotation book for mothers day the best one being -

THERE ARE SUPREME TESTS OF ENDURANCE: CLIMBING EVEREST, CROSSING THE GOBI, SAILING SINGLE HANDED AROUND THE WORLD AND BEING A MUM.

Treasure your babies whatever they do.

But DH is so excited, he loves road trips.

Bumpity bump!

We haven't sorted a time yet, but early afternoon works for us if that suits everyone else. Willie can only come if it's afternoon.

Sottise - if it's just you and Amelie, we can squish you in our car, but if your DH is coming it's a no-go - unless he sits in the boot

Very exciting - the first secret baby pressie arrived at my house this week

Us Auckland girls (including Kye ) need to organise the food too... any volunteers for any stuff in particular?

I'm not fussed, I'm assuming we're thinking finger-type foods so we don't have to worry about plates etc.?

I'll do cocktail sausages and sauce, and a box of Chicken Crimpy shapes (dairy free) and a packet of mini hundreds and thousands biscuits.

(notice how I skillfully avoided cooking/baking )

What can I bring? Some baking and juice etc? Fruit? (although that may not travel well?) I'll have a think - or let me know what is needed and I'll bring that

Do you need anything else Weegee, like paper plates/cups etc? serviettes?

Posted By: weegee
Date Posted: 22 June 2009 at 2:14pm
Nope, DH got all organised and went and got all the plates/cups/serviettes etc so we're all good on that front.

You're really not expected to bring any food Anna, considering how far you're coming! I do think some fruit would be an excellent idea but perhaps someone closer should pick that.

Yay for your DH weegee

Is there an oven there to warm things up?

Was thinking sausage rolls (though maybe too similar to Emma's cheerios) or wee pie things, and some bread/cheese/dips/meats (sorry SB).

Are we allowed beer for the boys (and the overtired mums?)

Also need to sort out girls night out, but I'll go back to the July thread for that!

Yup, there's an oven, microwave, dishwasher, zip etc all there. My DH is certainly taking some beer so I'm sure he'd be happier if someone was to join him!

I don't eat soft cheese anyway. It's the pate I miss. Mmmm *drool*

I was thinking baking too Anna. Maybe since you and I are travelling from afar we could do that. Although I could chips and dips. If thats not too much in your area flissty. Or some club sandwhiches. Ah who's dairy free does that mean egg free aswell?? Ohh Lollies!!!

Hey! This is here!

Emma - happy to accept a lift - not sure if it's easier for you / Anna but don't mind people fighting over the honour. >.> Just me and the child (and her stupid car seat of course).

I'll have a proper think about food, but definitely put me down for fruit. I will try my damndest to get the mini bananas, cause watching small people eat them is great fun.

Sottise, happy to pick you up too, we may have more room than Emma...?

Daniel tends to sleep till 11ish, so we could come out then. He will have another sleep about 2 but we might (DH might) be able to perseude him to sleep in the MB so we don't have to depart as others are arriving. Should have all started planning their routines several months ago so they'd coincide!

Yeah I think if we were to start at 2 that might be a little late for "the Watties" since they're still planning to drive back to the tron on the same day. JJ normally has an afternoon nap at around 3ish but if I stretch out his morning he can go for longer in the afternoon. Is 12.30 too awkward a time?

secret baby present
bib(s)
mushy food + spoon if your baby needs it
bottle & formula if you're not still BFing & baby will be due for a feed around then
sippy cup
me too if you have one (I'll have mine plus a couple of high chairs there)
food/drink to share

Dress reasonably warmly

Up to you Anna, we have enough room if it's easier for us to get Sottise? Not sure what your geographical knowledge of Auckland is coz I can't remember if you used to live here?

Of course it's up to you too Sottise, you might not want to be in the car with the ferals and I

Willie might not make it for 12.30pm, but he works in Henderson so he'll just come up after he's finished. He's holding Dave to the promise of a drive of the fire truck tho Weegee

And no worries about a nap for lil miss, she doesn't do daytime naps.

Weegee, is that a big hassle? Was just thinking last night that normally when we (DH and I) do group things, we tend to have a BBQ which easily cooks meat for a crowd and then it doesn't matter if we have less of the other stuff.

do we need to re-vamp the list then?

Good idea about the BBQ, but it is looking wet for the weekend...?

I'll be bringing some yoyos and dairy-free egg-free ginger crunch .

And happy to bring meat or whatever too, if we go ahead with the BBQ - will check back on here tonight as we leave tomorrow morning

Oh and Emma/Sottise, I did live in Auckland for a couple of years but didn't really venture further than central city/Mt Eden/Ponsonby! Where are you Sottise? Auckland driving scares me a little even though I won't be the driver, just the navigator!

Last time we did a BBQ at the station we had the actual BBQ in the engine bay so weather isn't an issue. I'm easy!

Yip, let's go with the BBQ then. Excellent thought Blondy! Will get the list back ...

Cake
Rach

Drinks
Soft drinks/juice etc for grownups: Rach, Anna
Beer: Squeegee, Anna
Wine: Felicity (pinot gris x1) and Kye will bring a pinot gris too

Snacky type stuff
cocktail sausages & sauce: Emma
Chicken Crimpy shapes: Emma
mini hundreds and thousands biscuits: Emma
Sausage rolls/savouries: Fliss
Bread/dips/meats: Fliss
Asparagus rolls: Kye
chips and Lollies: Sarah (because I can)

For after
Fruit: sottise
Mini muffins: blondy
Yoyo and Ginger crunch: Anna

Plates, cups, etc: Rach

Then if everyone brings something to chuck on the BBQ - doesn't need to be much cos I'm sure we'll have enough.

From looking at Amelie's birthday invite, I think sottise is pretty close to one of the motorway exits so probably won't be too much likelihood of getting lost

No, sottise is easy to find, although I warn whoever picks her up that their driveway is nasty to reverse down!

Sounds like we're all sorted for food but just thought I'd say that we'll beg off bringing any meat since we're bringing quite a lot of other stuff already

I'll have a loooksie at he mad butcher tomorrow for some sausages. Although I do have piles in the freezer but It'll need precooking or they'll take forever on the BBQ.

Fliss, your doing dips for crackers or for chippies. I can do 1 for chippies if need to.

Yay, food! OK, will bring some BBQ-y wossnames.

Do we need salad? And by salad I mean 'bag of leaves' - I'm ambivalent but no prob picking some up if people want to try the healthy thing.

Ive got a quiche to bring (just one of those supermarket ones) with my asparagus rolls and can bring some home kill meat the sasusages are sensational so will bring some of them. (Better remember to go around to the parents deep freeze and get them!) the steak has been very dissapointing (probably cause of the way the beast was killed - wont go into that!)

and weegee you are so excused! you have done so much for this birthday! THANK YOU!

Do we need to bring some toys along for the kiddies? I have a few ballons I could bring and blow up for them to play with? or some balls or something?

I was about to ask about toys.. But I thought I'd just bring some along anyway.

Right so nearly looks all sorted then. Men don't need plates for meat. Mine doesn't anyway he'll just stick something that used to be living in between some bread.

What's this healthy stuff you're talking about?? I was thinking of bringing a block of caramello or black forest, but if you lot need healthy......

I'm printing out directions and I realised I don't know where the fire station is - although I'm sure it won't be too hard to find if we can make our way to Kaukapakapa. What's the address Weegee? We're about to hit the road so Sottise can you please jot it down? Thanks!

Safe Travelling Anna! Im not sure where the firestation is.

Ive posted this in the July thread but will post in here too....

Jayden looks like he may be getting a runny nose its not a tap yet but Ive had to wipe it a few times, not green its clear / yellow so does anyone have any objections to us coming to the birthday party with a snotty nose kid?

and is there any June Mums and bubs coming?

Nah clear discharge is fine (in fact having been exposed to lots of bugs at daycare I'm quite blase about snotty noses of any variety to be honest).

Sorry Anna I didn't think about you guys already being on the road and directions!

Right, directions!

I'm going to assume people who have already been to my place know the general route to Kaukapakapa and can find the fire station from these general directions (so I'm not going to spell out the route from out west).

FROM THE HARBOUR BRIDGE
- Keep heading north on the motorway until you're back in the countryside
- Take the Silverdale exit (signposted as the free route north, first exit after the big BP)
- Turn left at the roundabout at the motorway offramp
- Turn right almost immediately into Pine Valley Rd
- At the end of Pine Valley Rd turn right into Kahikatea Flat Rd
- Continue through Waitoki
- At the end of Kahikatea Flat Rd turn right into Kaipara Coast Highway/SH16
- The Fire Station is on your left as you enter Helensville: turn into the carpark immediately after the 50kph sign. If you pass the school you've gone too far.

and from the North for Kye:

(Kye, come down SH16, and turn right into the carpark immediately after the school in KKK. If you go back into the 100kph area you've gone too far.)

Meh, runny nose, my kids invented runny noses. So not fussed here Kye

Maybe sausages for the bbq are better than cocktails for me to bring then, as cocktails will need reheating?

So Sottise is Anna getting you?

I can get you for the night thing, is prob easier than Weegee coming out this far when I'm pretty much in Onehunga if I walk next door anyway. Up to you guys tho.

i will bring some more tomato/bbq sauce and plain white bread for the steak and saussies, and can bring some chicken kebabs for the bbq also (but will forgo the bread rolls/salami/lettuce/tomatoes....unless someone still wants them too?)

looking forward to tomorrow!
