For those that have used one, what was in it???

I have thought about settng one up for hire for girls on here to use as there is alot of talk about them and they do seem so damn good when you first have  ababy to work out what to use, and what suits your baby.

Me too Becks, I've been thinking about setting one up as well - perhaps we could liaise and have a couple of them. I haven't used one personally but I've seen the Waitakere and North Shore kits, and there are some lists and photos of some hire kits in a stickied thread on TNN... also the latest listings are on the TNN website in .doc format from http://www.thenappynetwork.org.nz/hirekits.php - here

So everybody, if Becks and I do this... what brands/types would you want to see represented? (WAHMs, feel free to promote your own product to us - if this is going to be an OB hire kit then we should support OB mums!)

I've been trying to get through to the North Shore lady about a kit but no response which is frustrating, so would definitely be keen on one from here!

I'd be very keen on trying Baby Cheeks and Honey Child after doing all my research, these are the 2 that stand out for me!

I'd like it if it contained all different types of nappies (fitteds, prefolds, pockets etc...?), because honestly, I've no idea about what style I'd like to use and it would be nice to have a good mixture to choose from. (Not every brand of course, but every type).
Based on the feedback on here, I'd like to try itti bittis too.

I think its a great idea, and can I book December?

Sorry to thread jack but did anyone watch the episode of dirty jobs on sky on staurday night? there was an interesting job where they had a nappy cleaning service. People popped out their soiled nappies and once a week they got taken away and news ones were replaces it was quite interesting. Does that sort of service exist here in NZ ?

I was thinking of doing the different styles. And it being of small sizes and a few NB sizes as well.

Also to add to the questions what about price??? What would you pay for the hire kit???

The other hire kits are all a pretty uniform price so I think we'd possibly be constrained by that - they're all approx $40-60 bond, and $8-12 a week hire (usual hire period 8 weeks ish). It'd take us a little while to recoup the cost of the kits (unless OB wanted to help us out!) but after we did we could either donate the difference to charity or work on building a medium hire kit.

The other thing to ask is, what other things would you want to see in the hire kit besides nappies? (The other kits have cloth wipes, ecostore laundry powder samples, wetbags etc, and some of them throw in a pack of flushable liners and/or microfleece liners.)

Have you thought about contacting the various WAHM's who make MCNs for a sample and using that to create a hire kit.  As that's it main purpose to try the different ones to see what suits.

Washing instructions would be a great help, also with regards to drying, stripping etc.

T_Rex if you are interested we could set up a Palmy one, we could source a couple of different brands and types and swap/compare.

If there are any ladies out there that have finished with nappies, if they are willing to donate that would be an idea.

Just wanted to say what a great idea!! My bubba has just outgrown her NB nappies so I've been buying Medium ones off trademe. I can send you guys her NB Real Nappies if you're interested to put in kits? I bought them new so they have only been used for one baby (have 6 covers and 24 inserts)

Awesome idea! I agree, all kinds of types and brands included in the hire kit would be great, and including cloth wipes, samples, etc is also a great idea. Different types of inserts would also be a good idea.

Its a nice idea, Mrsg, but honestly at the moment I'm struggling to keep up with all the other things I have on. Try me in second trimester when apparently I'll have some energy
Seriously though, I probably don't have the time to be involved in setting one up, but if you did want to do it yourself or with someone else, I'd definitely be interested in hiring! And if you don't do a hire kit, I still might come round to check out your nappy collection at some stage - haven't you been collecting some over a while?

This is a fab idea, would the kit include a nappy bucket too? I think hitting up some NZ suppliers for free samples is also a very good idea, laundry powder, tea tree oil, liners, eco wipes etc. We have a net bag thingy that sits inside the nappy bucket for easy transfer to the washing machine.

I like the idea of having one of each different type of MCN - I still dont really know what the difference between all the styles is.

A laminated sheet of tips/hints/instructions would be useful too.

Good on you girls! It would be great to have a range of nappies by price. I my ecobubs and baby harmony, but can't afford to buy lots of them and in a hire kit, it would be great to be able to try some of the cheaper ones by WAHMs. One of my favourites is a $15 one from a WAHM. Course you would need to test them first to make sure of the quality. Just my two cents worth.

Here's another question... I'm assuming we only want nappies that are currently available to purchase (we don't want anyone having the frustration of falling in love with a particular type of nappy only to find you can't get them any more).

However, what about homemade nappies? If they're made to a particular pattern (like the wee weka or button boo for instance), and info on where to find the pattern and directions (and some fabric retailer suggestions) are included, is it worth having in the kit?

Hi - great idea! My Mum makes awesome OSFA nappies that are from KCK pattern - the pattern is available on-line. Could give you guys a free sample for each of your kits? She can also make them to sell ;-) They are great - can use comfortably from newborn right through to toilet training and they are trim and spunky looking :)

Posted By: weegee
Date Posted: 25 May 2009 at 1:30pm
That would be awesome Alex! Are they the velcro or snap version? You'd have to include your Mum's business card or details.

atm I'm thinking we will include a little laminated booklet which will have a page on each of the nappies with a photo, how it's used, where to find more info on it and where to buy them, as well as some generic care information.

I'll PM you my address

Velcro is good, we've got lots of snaps so far!

For those interested, the hire kit is coming together very quickly. Here's an update as to what we have in hand and on the way so far:

COVERS
Staccinator wool cover - small periwinkle
Proraps classic covers - 1 nb, 1 sm
Bummis covers - white nb, andy pandy sm
Honeyboy fleece cover - small orange with giraffe tabs
DesignerBums merino cover - small paua
Hand knitted green/purple/turquoise striped longies (small)

FITTEDS
Kissaluvs - nb natural
Snazzipants - size 1, red, white & black
Kushies - infant size

POCKETS
Honeychild - small white including insert and booster
Baby Cheeks OSFA - navy
KCK homemade OSFA (thanks alyxw!)

AIOs
Rosie's (now Karma Kidz) fleece AIOs - both sm, 1 red, 1 blue

PREFOLDS
Real Nappies (thanks rachel25!)

WIPES
At least a dozen cloth wipes in unisex prints

So obviously we don't really need any more covers, but here's what we're still thinking of getting, in no particular order:

FITTEDS
* Rosie's/Karma Kidz?
* Tots Bots?
* DesignerBums?
* Itti Bitti Boo?

POCKETS
* Ecobubs?
* Bib & Tucker?
* Wigglebums?
* Pea Pods?
* Baby Harmony?
* Joel-Eze?

AIOs
* Swaddlebees?
* Snazzipants?
* Monkey Doodlez? (personally I hate these but they might be ok for newborns and they're cheap)
* Of course itti bitti d'lish

OTHER STUFF
*decent size wetbag

sewn in weegee....

alyxw - if your mum is making them from a pattern make sure she is allowed to sell them. some patterns you arent allowed to,its a copyright thing i think.

you might want to rethink having longies in there as they require a different care than the other stuff and if someone throws them in the wash accientally they may get ruined.

hmmmmm... good point... maybe I should rethink the wool covers as well. (Just made sure there were some in there cos they're my favourites!)

Also a good point about selling the KCK nappies - I had assumed that alyxw's Mum had purchased a http://www.kaylasclothkits.com/item_31/KCK-one-Licensing-online.php - license but that does entail sending a sample to Kayla in the States so maybe not yet.

Bizzy, I have asked Karyn (Mother's Instinct) about maybe getting an itti bitti trial pack but will let you know one way or the other. (If someone else wants it in the meantime they can have it.)

I haven't sent the nappies to Becks yet as they are still on the line as it keeps raining lol, will bring them in tomorrow and spin them and put in the dryer . Question: How many do you guys want? Do you need just one insert per cover, or a couple of inserts? And how many sets do you need?

What's the latest on the hire kit? I'm keen on trying some new night time solutions, such as fitted naps and covers, and was wondering if you were hiring out yet.
Also, I reckon having the wool covers in the kit would be of benefit, just make sure there are clear instructions on how to wash and care for them.

HI, I make pocket nappies and would be interested in donating a couple to a hire kit if you still need some. I also make cloth wipes. You can fine them on facebook if you look up Melina Baby. I make OSFA, and different sized FOE pocket nappies. I am happy to make fitteds also if needed. I LOVE to sew!!!

I was thinking of making up a hire kit of all the different types of nappies I can make if needed also.

Hire kit is almost ready to go, but it's still in two pieces, and we need to put together all the info on each of the nappies etc before we can start hiring it out. We also haven't finalised prices etc yet.

Apart from a couple of OSFA pockets, the sizes are all newborn and small so would possibly be too little for Campbell anyway, whitewave?

Melina, we'd never say no to more nappies, they look great! A mid-range pocket would be very useful to have. I've become a fan of yours on Facebook (my last name sounds like my username on here).

Here's a sneak peek piccie - excuse the quality, I carefully laid out what I have here so far and then the batteries on my camera died, so it's from my cellphone camera - and note this is not everything because it doesn't include what Becks has at her place, nor some of the accessories we are yet to get:

Top left: wipes, AIOs
Top right: covers
Bottom right: fitteds
Bottom left: pockets, inserts

We've got all the nappies together, just organising the logistics of it all (eg how to package/transport them, for instance).

I was wondering about rules for hiring it out - this is supposed to be a hire kit for OHbaby! members, so should people have to be senior members before they're able to hire it? (so people can't sign up just to hire the kit)

What do people think?

I know you said you only wanted nappies that are currently for sale but I have a small old-style USA Fuzzi with contour insert that is in need of a home. Do you want to include it, maybe with a note to say it's no longer available in that particular style? I'd also be happy to donate a Swaddlebee fleece cover, which is gorgeous on nb's, especially over the SB organic velour.

How many posts to be a senior member? Is that 100 like being able to look at photos? I think that's a good idea to put some kind of restriction on it as I bet it's going to be really popular and as you say it's for Oh baby members so that's who you want getting it.

So here's a question: since we started setting up the kit there are a couple of nappies we have bought that you can no longer get in NZ (cos the exclusive distributor has stopped bringing them in, or in one case cos the WAHM that was making them decided to stop making nappies for a while at least to spend more time with her family).

Do we take those nappies out of the hire kit?

Good question.. on one hand you could put them in with a note that the nappy is no longer available in NZ of purchase and on the other hand if you use it and its your fav but you cant buy it....

I would say take them out...

Or could you still include them, but let people know that they're not available at this stage, but recommend a brand similar? I know that Baby Harmony has closed down (gutted!!!) but is there another brand similar?
