"Five-year-olds will be funded to stay in early childhood education from 2010 under the new Budget.

"From July 2010 all 5-year olds will be eligible for the funding, meaning they can defer going to school until they are legally required to when they are 6."

This is good - I've heard that a lot of children aren't quite ready for school at 5 (and I've just been reading 'You are your child's first teacher') so it's nice to know we'll have the option of accessing early childhood care until age 6, if necessary (and assuming the policy is still in place in another 4 years).
