Hi there

I have found it really tough getting an available midwife in Wellington, in fact there's no choice for my due date. So I have been directed to the Wellington Hospital Midwifery Team, there are 3 of them so I won't have a 1-2-1 relationship with an individual.

Has anyone here used them before and what was your experience like? This is my first and I am bit concerned that I might be missing out on that relationship, particularly as I am in great need of support, I am in NZ with only my husband and this is all new to me.

I'd really be grateful for any advice/views you have.

Thanks

i didnt use the midwife team, but when i went into labour i used one of the midwifes pip and she was lovely, and when i had to spend a day in there for observation, the midwife i had was fantastic.

I havnt used them (still TTC #1) However I have a friend who had a MC at 19 weeks, and had to deliver so got one of the Hosp midwives, and said she was fantastic, is planning on using them again. Also have the daughter of a woman at work who moved to Wgtn when she was 4 months and couldnt find a MW, and used the Wgtn Hops MW, and also said they were great. I have heard all the best MW work at the Hosp, so dont worry :)

While I do have a specialist, he works with the MW's at the Hospital here in Welly too. I had a specalist last time too and again, went through them. They are LOVELY and are there for you whenever you need them - the good thing is that because there are a few of them, you will get hold of someone each time you call. You get to meet them all at one stage or another also and they have access to your records in a central place so no worries about someone forgetting something - its all recorded.

Thanks

I think I will have to go with the hospital team so it's good to know other people have had good experiences with them. Just at the moment (8.5 weeks) I feel a bit out on a limb, not sure what I am supposed to be doing when!

Emmi_ good luck with ttc.

All the best everyone

Just thought I'd chime in: I was in the same situation with my wee one - couldn't find another midwife and went with the hospital team.
While I think it would be nice to have that one to one relationship with a midwife if I do it again, I have no worries about the team at the hospital. They were all simply lovely. Really great ladies.
