Subject: Itti AIO Vs SIO
Date Posted: 01 November 2009 at 5:14pm
I am looking at getting a Bakers Dozen pack of Itti Bitti's and am debating whether to get just an AIO pack or a half and half pack. At the moment we mostly have AIO's and only 2 SIO's. Two isn't really enough to compare - so I haven't really noticed a difference in absorbancy. I have noticed that the snap in's take just as long to dry as the AIO's (although the outer obviously dries much faster).
I've noticed on here that most (I think?) people like the SIO's better - is that for any reason that I should be aware of before committing to buying just an AIO pack? I want the nappies to last for quite a long time (i.e. for more than one child) as it is quite a lot of money - is there any recommendation for one over the other for this reason?
TIA

poo can get caught in all the layers of the SIO, making it to clean.

I like them both equally!!
I do find that it is easier to tell when the SIO is 'full' whereas the AIO is a little more difficult cause the hidden padding.
Also I bought an extra set of inserts for my SIO's so doubled my quantity at a cheaper cost.

I have been wondering the same thing!! I know someone on here commented on one of them being more absorbant than the other - but for the life of me I cant remember which way round it was! I tried searching for it yesterday but couldnt find it.
I have two of each - i like them both equally but am wanting to buy more too.

I think that SIO are more absorbent, they have more bamboo in them, but certainly seem it to me.

I definitely thought that the SIO's were a lot more absorbent. Livvy was a very heavy wetter and the AIO's would only last a short time compared to the SIO.

I like the SIO. I find them to be more cost effective cause you can buy more inners as the outers dry so quick.

I'd have a bamboo mini booster in Livvy's AIO and she'd be lucky to make 2 hrs in it.

SIOs definitely worked better for James when he was doing his mega pees! I couldnt understand what the problem was until I asked at mothers instinct and Karyn said they are "slightly" more absorbent..

I have mainly SIO and so wish there were AIOs when I bought most of mine they are so much easier and just sit better. I also find other people can't get the hang of SIOs and seem to leave bits hanging out which lead to leaks.
Also I never could just take the soakers out as the fluff would always have a wee bit of wees on it so for me buying extra snap ins was a waste of money.

I have used both and prefer the AIO over the SIO. The SIO weren't as soft as the inserts can get quick stiff when line-dried and also the poo can go through all the layers which is messier to clean up. But my biggest issue was that we got pull down at the front from where the insert snapped in and this caused leaks. The AIOs fit so much nicer & flatter at the front and are generally softer to the touch from the inside. When I used the SIOs I very rarely resuded the outer without washing it so I didn't find it an advantage or cheaper. Plus there's the snapping & unsnapping of inserts which was just a pain compared to the AIO's. I didn't find much difference in the absorbency between the two.

i like snapping mine too.
i prefer SIOs, can definatly tell the difference with the absorbtion compared to the AIOs. Like have the AIOs for DP and others if they are changing him. SIOs would boggle him lol.

Yup SIO are more absorbant BUT if you have bubba with chicken legs you may find the fit of the AIO is much better.
I have equal of both and find I get the same length of time out of a AIO if I add a booster and they fit snuggly around the thigh. Jake had moved into his med AIO for about 3 weeks before the SIO would fit nicely around the thigh.
That said, Jake is not a big wetter....
I also sit down at the end of the day and snap mine together (and stuff my pockets).

Well I haven't even tried a SIO yet and I'm not really sure whether I wan't to or not. Who was it that said that SIO's are a bigger fit? Was it MEL? Is that with a medium.
Emiloly, how much longer do you think the girls will have in there smalls. I have a whole bunch of small peapods I used with DS before I discovered there are other MCN'S out there. I'm going to be ridding of them to get itti's and fuzzie's for this baby. But Im' not sure wether to get small's or mediums. I have 2 meiums that DS grew out of straight away and he went straight into larges.
Argh I'm so confuzzled.

hmmm, well the girls were 2.4kgs and 2.5kgs at birth, wish I had the itti's then because possibly they would have fitted. I think the rule of thumb is if you have a large new born go for mediums. I don't know how much time they will have left in there smalls. They are around the 4kgs mark and only just growing out of new born sizes if that helps. I think it would be better to order a trial pack to try out on bubs once baby gets here and then order the nappies once you decide. I wish I hadn't gone and brought so many pea pods as they fit is horrible and now I have to sell them all. i have a mass amount of small pea pods to get rid of now.

Have there been any reviews on baby cheeks em? The thing with pockets is that you can control for absorbancy better right? I'm just trying to get a feel for this as cloth is the way I want to go when I finally get there.

The girls were born by elective c/s at 37weeks4days. If you had a baby that was smaller like mine then you could expect to have them in smalls for about three to four months then move them in to the mediums I'd say??

I am thinking that I will do disposables while baby has that black tar poo and/or until i'm physically up to doing all the laundry that cloth will ensure. Maybe I should just opt for a couple of smalls but getting the majority in mediums. I look forward to you updating your journey as it continues. Thanks for all the answers so far!!

DS was 3.25kg at birth and that was OD. If bubs is a girl she may be smaller. SO it's hard to predict. I really want to have them straight off though. Although the small Fuzzie buns go down from 1.8kgs or somehting to around 6kgs. So maybe I'll jsut get them and then get itti's after.
I'll get some more med itt's anyway aswell.
lostamber. We had baby cheeks for a while, But I'm a idiot and sold them. Cause I just wanted to do prefolds. Which now I don't have any of either cause I just want to do fuzzies, itti's and ecobubs. (does that make sence)
Baby cheeks are OSFA and have an adjustable elastic on the inside of the nappy so you can make the legs small enough for a newborn or big enough..... I didn't work this out till DS was around 5 months or so. and then had discovered a whole bunch of other nappies and sold them off. I have a few of there inserts still and they are FANTASTIC, just 2 of them will last DS 4 hours.

I received our AIO's yesterday and they look great on the line drying! I justify the expense by looking at how much we will save in the long run. We spend about $50 a week on disposables for the girls anyhow! I only got 13 to start off with, once I have sold some stuff I will be able to fund the next lot!! YAY though, I happy with my decision of getting the AIO's with the bamboo booster.

pea pods seemed very bulky on my girls, maybe because they were so small? didn't like the fit at all. itti's fit much better, look and feel great and there is no stuffing. I find it drys no slower than the bamboo insert in the pea pod.

yeah they are good, Ethan is currently in time out for firing the alian ship weapon at my head. The girls are good but hating the heat and humidity. They wont sleep during the day which makes for grumpy babies! Other than that going great guns. I am still loving the itti's although I was using a tot's bot fuffal (sp) when Erynn 'exploded' this morning. Two massively full nappies one after the other. She was storing it for a whole week, so far the itti's have contained Violette's #3's but Erynn's was in a whole other league!

You can request your own colours. I got a red and a jade (?) as I wanted more unisex colours.
I have only had a chance to use each of them once, and prefer the AIO.
