Hi Happy,
wishing you the best of luck for your 3rd IVF cycle...does it get any easier along the way or I would think it gets quite consuming, you deserve to have a grumpy day and go with it I say.Fingers crossed for a BFP with this transfer and do you mind if I ask if you are getting good embies, and are you transferring day 3 embies or day 5 blastocycsts?
I've had my 1st IVF cycle which got stopped at the transfer stage because they couldnt get the embies in so they were put on ice. I've had to have a quick operation to fix a couple of things and now booked in for my TER tomorrow. A bit nervous as hoping the little embies survive the thaw and also they can get them in this time.
Hope you are having a good weekend, maybe you need to change your name to grumpy not happy til tomorrow - lol

Hi tanners
I make really good blasties which is frustrating that it hasn't worked yet....my last tx it was even hatching so who know's what was wrong!! I have to have my cervix dilated before tx's because of scar tissue, I had some pre cancerous cells removed year's ago think it was a cin 3....
LOL hmmm maybe I should change my name. Although am feeling much better today!
It has got very consuming and really is still very upsetting getting a bfn bt result.
All the best for you TER tomorrow

Hi everyone
I have just started the buserelin injections last tuesday on our first cycle. It's all pretty scary and exciting. I have been feeling pretty yuck and definatly a little whiney lol. I have high fsh and am on highest med doses so the nurses said to expect to feel crap.
It's so nice to have others to talk to though
Hope everything went well today Tanners.

Hi everyone,
I've just finished a cycle of IUI which ended up with a BFN. Definitely the hardest 2ww I've ever been through. Now on the pill waiting to try to fit an IVF cycle in before xmas.
I've just spent the weekend visiting friends most of whom are either pregnant now, or have just given birth. And THEN my sister announces she's preg with number 4. Of course I'm happy for her but MAN its hard not to be impatient!!! I think I would go crazy without being able to read about others' experiences. Thanks for starting this specific chat.
I'm sure it will be all our turns soon

Hi girls
I think I'm lucky as i don't get to emotional on the buserelin just minor headaches, and I was a bit grumpy the other day....
I had a bt today to check how I'm going on the gonal so should hear today when my first scan for this cycle will be..... yay feels like time is going so slow and I'm not even at the tww yet!!!
Nicky I find it really hard when I feel like I'm the only one out of my friends who is not pregnant or already has kids.... even my df has a son from a previous marriage... arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
and although you are happy for your sister it just makes your pain all the more real..... and it makes me feel sad formeyself when I alway's hear someone else is pregant!!
But we will get there!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone
Unfortunately neither of our embies survived the thaw so no transfer yesterday. Me and DH are just so so disappointed.
Its funny but I've been completely fine and optimistic throughout the this whole IVF process but today found myself getting a bit upset about it all.
Happy - I also had a pre cancerous cells removed years ago and had a recent operation to dilate my cervix so mock transfers for me also.
Good luck Hope1, chiqa and Nickypicky with your treatment.
Chiqa - I also have high FSH and was put on the highest med doses and responded really well to them. If you have any questions or concernss, let me know I'd be happy to share what I know.
take care everyone

Hi everyone
thanks for all your lovely replies.
Next step for us is a government funded cycle coming up in Jan (last one was private - ouch). We were really lucky the clinic helped us secure one, and anyone funding there own treatments know how great it is to get a little help on the financial side, but most of all to give us another chance.
So for the next couple of months I am going to start charting (it all looks quite complex) but going to get a BBT today and me and DH will go for gold.
Happy - how are you going on the gonal F now, have you got a date for your scan and BT.
Hope1- good luck for your injections on the 14th
Chiqa - how are you feeling on the buserilin injections, hope not too bad, just wait til you start adding in the gonal F as well - good luck!

Tanners- hope that the next cycle goes better fingers crossed!
Start injections tomorrow- we're going out for dinner so I am going to have to do it in a restaurant toilet- not happy about that- any suggestions!!??
Am feeling really nervous- this is our second private cycle and if it doesn't work we have to wait for public and we not eligible for waiting list until June 10.
My specialist felt that sperm quality is an issue (DH had vasc reversal and has antibodies) so I am so scared now that this will never happen- and wonder where that will leave us as its something I have always wanted!!
Sucks!

Happy - good luck with EC on Sunday - keep us posted!
Hope1 - I've had to do the same in a restaurant toilet! I prepared my injection before I left home and put it in a small tupperware container cellotaped to the sides so it didn't move. I then put the container in a plastic bag with an icepack so all I had to do was pull it out and stick it in! Ahhhh the things we do!
Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit low today, it happens to us all and can come out of the blue. Keep positive as it sounds you have loads to be excited about with this treatment could come the BFP you are hoping for and it will be comforting to know that you have a funded cycle as a backup just over the horizon. As for DH - there is so much they can do now - it sounds faaaaarrrrr from over for you.
hmmmm shame you cant pour yourself a nice glass of wine, maybe you should do some retail therapy this weekend to cheer you up!

Hiya,
Lots happening in here!!
Good luck for trigger injection Happy and Hastie, not long to go for you guys!
Hope1, its understandable to be a bit low after what you have just been through! Hope you start to feel a better soon.
Not much happening for us now, we decided to put our last transfer on hold (even though I had already started on the drugs). I haven't been overly well lately and we have a fair amount of stress going on in our lives right now, so decided to wait until the new year for our last embie. Want to be as healthy as possibly can to have the best possible chance.
I hated to delay things but hope its for the best, January will be the start of our 6th year of TTC and time is ticking on!!
Hope you ladies don't mind me lurking in here and keep up with what you are doing.
Wishing you all the very best.

Hi guys, I'm lurking in here too - hope you don't mind either! It's just nice to keep in touch with those going through IVF, I don't want to 'lose' my contacts with the forum as it's been able to help keep me sane since May!!!
Good luck to those of you underway with IVF - it's an exciting/nervous time and very emotional!
I'm like you scaredycat - we're going to put off our last transfer until next year - maybe even Feb/Mar. I want to get into good health, and we're going to the natural fertility clinic to do everything we can to optimise our health and fertility before we do the transfer. They like 3-4 months I think, hence the timing of transfer.
We go back to the specialist on the 25th so want to hassle him to see where we sit on the public wait list. Hopefully we will get in next year (if transfer doesn't work) as he was going to put us through as an exception.
Tanners and Happy, I also have had precancerous cells removed - a cone biopsy in 2001 and then a lletz loop biopsy again in 2006. In my last transfer they had to inject the cervix to dilate it and then use something to keep it open - hmm, not the nicest. Just wonder if all the surgery has an effect on the 'stickability' of the embryo??
Take care guys and lots of positive thoughts being sent to you all having transfers

Hi girls
I have done my trigger injection, yay to no more jabbing!!! It does make you wonder about the stickability of our embies when we have all had loop's etc done...
With my publick funded cycle I had to wait a year for the first one, i paid for a cycle while I was waiting... and then my 2nd funded cycle was surposed to be next year in August but a few months ago i got a call from the clinic say ing that a couple of spots had come avalible and would I like to start earlier.... like hell yes..... as I would not of been able to wait another year and was actually at the very time my phone rang planning that I was going to just pay for another cycle
I'm not sure how I got choosen to be one of the lucky ones to cycle earlier but I'm very grateful!!!

Hi ladies,
How are you all holding up?
Tischler, great to hear from you, definitely keen to hear how the natural fertility is working out for you and Dh and what sort of things they look for to treat you with. (did that make sense lol)
Happy - WOW 12 eggs - that is great, jeez the body was working hard you definitely need a rest! Good luck with the fertilisation and getting some great embies!
Hastie - hope your 2nd scan went well - do they have a date for your trigger yet?
Hope1 - glad the container worked a treat - the things we do aye. Hope the headaches pass after a couple of days, I know mine eased after a few days and I was drinking lots of water as well which helped.
Chiqa - good luck with the extra needles - are you on 3 injections a day now? As for running around like a crazy woman, you might need to start hiding from everyone lol. Actually once you start on the gonal f you should try and take it easy a little bit as when the follicles start growing they need a bit of resting time to do their thing.
Have a good week everyone!

Happy - so gutted for you, I think we all had our fingers crossed this time that those two embies would be the ones!
I know you mentioned you have 2 blasties on ice and was wondering if you read the post from purpleboon about having your uterus flushed with Lipiodol (which is poppy seed oil) and would try that? "Apparently it dramatically increased the chances of women with Endo and unexplained infertility getting pregnant."
You seem to make great embies but the little ones dont seem to stick, are you able to get some tests done about this?
Maybe you just need to grieve now and not have anyone (ie me) tell you to try something else but its just my heart goes out to you and I want you to get a BFP!

Hi girls
Tanners I ahve considered having it done and did take part in the study they are doing at the moment on it, but I wasn't choosen to have it done. It is something that I'm def going to prob have done next year before next fet. Am just worried because they ahve to dilate my cervix before tx's that it will hurt like hell....
Hope all the best for you with this cycle

Sorry to hear about your bfn happy. Don't lose hope.
I had EC yesterday. Ouchy.. I'm So happy to be over the injecting though. We got 9 eggs and 7 fertilised. Yay! It's way more than expected. At our first appt they said we may have to use donor eggs as Although I'm only 30 I have high FSH. So we are very happy to have 7. We are looking at transfer on monday.
How is everyone else doing?

Hi girls
Well I sure do have an updat on me for you.... I managed to get an apt with my Fs yesterday late afternoon for a follow up apt. And he went all through my notes double checking and told me he really thought i should of been pregnant by now as all my embies/blasties have been top quality.... and then used the surrogate word yes surrogate! He said having endo doesn't effect ivf and the 2 reasons he feels surrogacey is the next step is cause I have difficult tx's and he now supects something wrong with my uterus, there is no way of knowing for sure!! He said we could continue as we have been doing and hope..... but my last 2 blasties are really good and feels it would be a waste to put then back in me..... I didn't even cry at the apt not till I got to my car then the water works started, I feel numb! I've called my Mum and she said she has been thinking that the last couple of tx's ..... and think's I should look into it..... I can't beleive I'm here at this stage ....and what a HUGE ask of someone to carry your baby.... I also am feeling gutted I'm never going to experience a pregnancy.... girls sorry for the downer of a post.

Happy - So sorry your last embies didn't stick and you are now having to look at such a HUGE and emotional option in surrogacy. No doubt you are still in shock right now as all of us would be. Congrats Hastie, it is nice to see a BFP! Take care, and hope all goes well with the BT next week.
Chiqa, 7 is great. Well done, at least you will know you have some 'back-ups' IF necessary. I hope they're not necessary for you and you can use them for #2,3 etc!!
Happy, WOW. Yep, that's pretty intense. Well done for keeping it together for so long! I don't know whether this is of interest to you, but this is what I'm doing prior to using my last 2 embies ...
On recommendations of others on this site, I've gone to Natural Fertility & Women's Health Clinic here in ChCh (and there's one in Akld). I've seen the naturopath, and apparently there are multiple reasons why embryo's don't stick - could be egg/sperm quality, disordered embryo, environmental etc, but they also said that there are some bacteria that can be found in the uterus which commonly causes miscarriage and embryo's not sticking (we've had 3 blasties and 2 day3 embies transferred unsuccessfully).
The naturopath is sending me for lots of bloods to test for all these things plus the usual FSH LH tests. I'm also doing a hair analysis to look at minerals I need or have too much of. She has recommended dietary changes (not major), and some remedies (which are specific to my needs i.e. I'm really low in zinc which is needed for fertility). She is going to focus on me for the next 3 months (given we've already got embies), will analyse all my test results and make more recommendations/remedies as needed, and will also give me some additional remedies to help implantation after transfer.
I don't know whether this may be an avenue persuing for you before going down the surrogacy route? You've probably got oodles to think of, but it's out there as an option. I know some people are very 'medical model' focussed, and understand if you are, but we are using it as a 'last chance' as we can't pay for any more private IVF cycles, and we don't hit the 'waitlist' for public funding til August 10 and then it's about a 12 month wait to start!
Hope this is some food for thought. There are others who have gone through this clinic too who could maybe share some info or thoughts too. Best of luck with your decision making, I hope you can take lots of time for you right now, as after hearing news like that it's really intense, and you'll need some pampering. Take care.

Wow Hastie.... Take care and fingers crossed
My transfer went fine and now just the waiting...lol We went and had a lovely picnic in the rose gardens after.
I have been very sore from the EC though. I didn't feel a thing while they were doing it but was so painful the days after. Still a little sore now but they said as long as it gets better each day it's fine. I'm not liking the pessaries either...very messy!
Oh I hate waiting.. I was talking to my boss the other day about wether I'll be able to feel I'm pregnant or not. I think without all the meds you definatly can. I knew with my dd(12) after a week or so but the pessaries are making me feel like it anyway so I'm just trying not to think about it too much lol
Take care everyone

The off switch would be fab.
I had a major meltdown last night. My paranoia lept up all of a sudden and slapped me in the face. I was not feeling very positive at all. So First thing this morning I went out and bought a HPT. Today I'm 8DP5DT. I sat looking at it for a few minutes then decided to hell with it. Took the test and got 2 pink lines!
I know it's certainly not as positive as a blood test but I can't help being a little excited now to think that the ivf might have actually worked. I'll try again tomorow.

Hi guys, thought I would jump in and explain my story. Pregnancy 1 ectopic, left tube removed, 2nd pregnancy was told I had a miscarriage until I colapsed at home, was rushed to hospital and found baby in right ovary, got the injection. Had a hystersalpingogram and told remaining tube blocked. Started first IVF in August, 2 days before egg collection (10-15 eggs able to be taken each side) hormone level got too high 32000 (very sick), should have been under 10000 so they canceled the collection. 2nd IVF booked in for March. Its been a massive rollacoaster of emotions. Not so nervous for 2nd IVF as no what im getting myself in for.

Hi Laniw, thanks for sharing your story, sounds like you have had a pretty scary and tough time of things.
Its been a bit quiet on here lately, I think most of us IVF ladies have been taking a break over xmas before starting any treatment in the new year.
Good luck for your 2nd IVF treatment, sounds like you definitely over stimulated on your 1st round, other ladies on this forum have had the same terrible experience and were also pretty sick but hopefully they will monitor you on this next round and get you through to the EC and transfer.

We are also going to talk to them about Fertility Cover which is another option that you pay $24k and get three goes- man its just so much money.

Hi there,
Another newbie to this forum. I've just been reading through your entries, and it is soooo helpful to see other people going through the whole IVF procedure. This is my first IVF cycle, so I'm completely green, unlike some of you! I received my 2nd scan yesterday and have 7 follies of various sizes. I am today awaiting a call from FA to advise me what time to take my trigger injection tonight ready for the egg collection on Wed. Feeling very nervous about the procedure - can anyone tell me whether they felt any pain? How do you feel afterwards? Aghhhhhh! Sooo many hurdles to get over - it really is a uphill struggle. Oh well, enough of my babbling - fingers crossed x
Hope you are all bearing up and good luck to you all.

Hi Snoopy- good luck with your egg collection. Its hard to tell you what it will be like as I think everyone is different. I had it done with pain relief the first time and heavy sedation the second (which they needed an anaesthetist for). It takes about 10-15 min so is over quickly. For me it hurt but for others it doesnt so much.
Afterwards I had time off- I think I went back to work the day after transfer. I was just a bit sore and very bloated- so get lots of DVDs and magazines and just chill if you can.
I have heard that people eat pineapple to help with implantation- but there is no scientific proof- I ate 2 whole pineapples last time and nothing, but other friends have got pregnant.
Good luck- look after yourself, its a hard process but it will be worth it in the end for you!!

Hi Snoopy - good luck for your EC on Wednesday, hope it all goes really smoothly for you.
Not quite sure what pain relief they gave me at FA in Wellington but one minute I was awake and the next thing it was all over, I was pretty zonked out afterwards though and just a little bit sore and bloated for a couple of days but otherwise fine. Definitely agree with Hope1 about taking it easy for a couple of days and relaxing with some good chick flicks or a book!

We are hoping to do one in April somehow, financially i am not sure how we are going to fund it - my DH's mum is retiring with no savings for her super so we will also be helping her out also and my DH is self employed as a mortgage broker and business has been down due to the recession - although lets hope it gets better this year
there needs to be more access to this kind of treatment however i do understand it does come at a cost via the tax payer etc

Hi hastie- we have done two private as I am not eligible for the WAITING LIST until June this year!! So prob not start until 2011 when I am 37. So we have decided to do two more privates this year while we wait (and hopefully the first one will work!!! Hopefully we will have things to learn from from the first two). This is not easy for us financially but we are giving it a go.
For us it cost about $12k each time- that was with FA Hamilton. I agree with you that it sucks re pricing- my friend in Oz gets it for about $3k!!! But apparently that will soon change.
Its so hard wanting something so much and feeling that it is impossible- I just hold on to the BFPs that others get!! Its also hard when everyone around you has babies!! I almost feel like its a competition and everyone else is winning which is not a healthy way to look at it!!
------------- IVF #1 May 09- BFP then missed miscarriage at 8 weeks

Hi all, thanks for all of your words of encouragement - they were much appreciated. We're keeping our IVF a secret from the majority of our family and friends just so we don't have to be explaining ourselves every two mins! So, it is really good for me to have this sounding board to let off some steam - phew!
I have to say, I admire the strength of you all - and you should all be very proud of yourselves for this quality alone.
Hastie, I noticed that you've asked Hope1 how much her private treatment is costing; if it's any help, we are funding ours privately, and I've costed it up to be between $11,000-$12,000 - gulp!! Gonal F alone is $250 a shot - outrageous isn't it?! Not sure if costs vary depending on where you live, but fyi I live in the Auckland area.
I took my trigger injection last night, so the BIG day is tomorrow morning at 9.30am for ec - eeeeek! Already I can feel the butterflies in my tummy!
Best wishes to you all.

Hi all and welcome to all you newbies. Such a shame to have to 'meet' you in a place like this, but the forums have been a great lifeline for me, and I'm sure they will be for you too!
Just wanted to pop in to say I'm still around. I've been working with a naturopath before our planned use of our 2 final frozen embies (probably March cycle), and am doing all I can to get into a good shape.
Just received some sad news re my mother-in-law, so hoping for her sake that we can provide her with another grandchild while she's still with us. Extra motivation, but so hard when it's out of our hands!!
Anyway, best wishes for 2010 to you all, and I'm looking forward to hearing that we are all blessed with the babies we so want this year.
Good luck everyone

Our journey to parenthood is over, and we join the unfortunate many for whom IVF does not work.

Hi tischler, hope your naturopath is getting you ready for a BFP this year, you so deserve it. So sorry to hear about your mother in law, but I'm sure her most important wish would be to see her son happy with you, any kids will be a bonus.
Hastie, thanks for the good luck wishes. I really hope your followup review goes well, maybe they will put you on a different protocol this time, or try ICSI with the IVF to try and get more eggs to fertilise, there seems to always be new things they can try, good luck.
Hope1 - we also paid around $12k for our private funded cycle, it is just so much money I know! I too hold on to the BFP's others get but secretly hope it is my turn next. It is hard when it seems so easy for others but these forums are great to have a rant when we are on a downer, I'm hoping 2010 is a baby year for all of us

Hi all, I've popped in here before, but we're getting closer to our first round of IVF, and thought I would swing by. We are unusual in that I have five children already, but have a new husband, and he has no children. We are booked back in to see FA in Palmerston North in March to then book our first, privately funded round. I am 37 and DH is 34. I have to lose another ten kilos by March in order to make it really an option - it's going to be hard work, but I will have to do it as we don't want to spend this much money without giving ourselves the best chance possible. I'm really excited, and hopeful, but scared at the same time. I've heard a lot about mood swings - I'm bad with PMT at the worst of times - can anyone enlighten me as to how the drugs have affected them? Good luck to all of us, I hope 2010 is a great baby filled year for us all. :)

Hi all, as you are aware I had my EC yesterday morning - I can't say it was a pleasant experience but it was better than I expected. My husband told me that when they gave me the relaxation drug, I was all wide eyed and I was trying to see what they were doing down below! Hence to say, they upped my dose through the procedure 4 times!! I always try to fight these drugs instead of letting them take me over which is not a sensible thing to do!
Anyway, they retrieved 8 eggs, the extra one must have been hiding when I had my last scan! This morning I received a call to say that 6 of the eggs were mature enough to use, so they confirmed to me that all 6 eggs had fertlised overnight - hurrah!
They have me scheduled for the egg transfer on Sat which is day 3. I guess this all depends on how well the eggs progress, if at all. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up too much, and taking things step by step instead of racing ahead which there is a danger of.
Hope1 - I've taken your advice and bought some pineapples today, so shall start devouring them up to Sat - no harm in giving them a go.
Any advice anyone can offer would be gratefully received.
Tischler - good luck for your transfer in March
Warmest wishes to you all

Good luck for transfer Snoopy. :)
Hi everyone, thought I should introduce myself as I am now officially in the IVF process.
Today is day 4 of Buserelin injections for me.
It's very exciting.
This is our first IVF and it is a private cycle. We are eligible for public funding in March 2011 but not prepared to wait that long. I am 32 but turning 33 in four months time.
We have been TTC for 25 months, and have done one failed IUI (private), at which time we we told we had morphology issues and need to do IVF with ICSI.
Anyway, nice to meet everyone. I have read through the thread and it is nice to hear some tips (I'll try the pineapple!) and support you have for each other.
I am trying my best to keep a very very positive attitude as I feel the good vibes can only help.
Good luck to everyone.

Hope1, Alison, Minnie & Elleroo - thanks all for your good wishes.
Hi Elleroo, we also are doing ICSI as DH has motility issues - poor things don't swim very well!! Good luck with your injections.
I went in for my transfer today but it has been recommended that we keep the embies going for another couple of days, so Mon am will be the BIG day. At the moment, the results are: 3 x 8 cell embies, 1 x 6 cell emby and then we have a 8 and 9 cell emby which are slight fragmented, so not sure whether these ones will make it, but they will be given a chance to rectify themselves over the next couple of days, but nothing is certain!
Two more days of wondering what the embies are up to - can think of nothing else at mo!
Best wishes

Snoopy, sending your embies lots of positive growing vibes! Hope you finding enough things to occupy your mind - have you seen the movie 'Avatar' ? Great movie and is 3 hrs long!

Haha, yes, Alison I have seen Avatar, went to the cinema last week to see it, I also thought it was very good. Need to find some other longish films - currently watching a dvd re Edvard Munch - a whole 3 1/2 hours long - getting a bit bored with it now tho - yawn!
Thanks for your kind words.

Frustrating day today! Am finding it hard sharing my strength between being positive for IVF, doing my best at my career and my family!
FA on Friday, see the Dr (have ALL our questions sorted) and a counsellor (this should be interesting)
Wishing everyone a good week a head

Thanks Hope1 - just hope they keep growing until tomorrow when I have the transfer.
Alison - sounds like you're doing a lot of sharing there! Why not put family and career to one side for the next few weeks (they will all still be there when it is all over !), just until you have completed the course of IVF - sometimes we need to be a little selfish with our time.
Good luck with Friday. I would be interested to hear how you get on with the counsellor and whether you felt it was beneficial.
