Does it ever go away? If anyone has successfully managed to get rid of theirs I'd love to know how you did it!??

Mine is tiny compared to what it was (it was UG-LY!), I did a lot of bellydancing and pilates.

I hope so!   I have a double one although thankfully they cut along the same line!     I LOVE my sucking in undies.

mamanee - in my photo's on FB there's a pic of me in my tankini sitting in the paddling pool - I'm really lucky as my Mum teaches Eastern Fusion belly dance so I had the perk of being able to borrow her instructional DVD's. I still have a bit of overhang but nothing like it was to start with! (And no I don't diet, yes I'm still a lot bigger than pre-pregnancy.)

Haha i thought this was going to be about some new invention, but now i have clicked, great name for it. Im going to have to call mine an apron instead of my flap... sounds a lot nicer!

So yes i still have mine :(

Ha ha, I've never heard this but I agree I hate mine. Didn't know it was because of c section thou, just assumed it was due to pregnancy and child birth in general!

I have been running lots and it hasn't helped - might be time to try belly dancing

Natscats - after a c-section, because they have to cut through so much, the scar tissue creates a tight band at the bottom of your tummy, and all the saggy mummy tummy hangs over the top and sags down like an apron.

LOL! you guys are so funny :P Mine is only marginally bigger than the apron I have normally from being a fatty :P Tummy tucks should be mandatory during c'sections!

I had this, but only for a few months afterwards until I lost all the baby weight. After that my tummy was nice & flat again. No different to before the c-section. Of course now I'm pregnant again I look like I'm smuggling a beachball

haha such a good description FreeSpirit!

I am still carrying 7kg of pregnancy weight (damn it ) despite still BF'ing so hopefully if I am ever able to shift that it might improve??! Cos at the moment it is HID-E-OUS! I find it really hard to find pants that fit and don't cause my apron to hang over the top. Maybe I should buy high waisted pants so I can tuck it in...

I've had two c-sections one in Jan 08 and one in June 09 and seven months on from Elias I'm only one size bigger than normal off season size (although ive been working on it), although I still have a flabby tummy its nowhere near what it was.

So by June this year it should all be gone, because I will be competing on stage in a bikini

Fabulous - I have only realised from this thread that my slight 'over hang' is here to stay.. I just thought it was post baby weight, gutted

I can't wait to be able to start exercising and seeing what I can do to make it look better!

I really don't agree that the "slight overhang" is unavoidable. I had a csection & mine went away after I lost the baby weight, so don't worry, it can be done.

I sure hope it goes away, I only have 1-2 kg left to lose to be back to pre baby weight but my tummy was round already so once I lose some more of that I hope it goes away!

It will do with hard work - like I said earlier, it's the saggy mummy tummy that makes the apron, I've dropped 18kgs (I put on a LOT of weight while preg)and it's now more a bump than an apron IYKWIM.

Also I think you have to be realistic & take into account your shape pre-baby. If you didn't have a flat tummy & washboard abs before bubs it's not going to be like that afterwards (unless you put in a whole lot of work).

Thats what I was going to say Odette.. it has a lot to do with your tummy pre baby! But it can be done I am told..... it might just be a lot of hard work focusing on that area to get it back in shape!

Thanks girls - I was going to ask the midwife tomorrow if this was normal 'cause no-one warned me about it.  Mine's not too bad but no string bikini's for me at the moment.  Righto, so I need to take up belly dancing, lose weight and get fit.  No problemo.  Or maybe I could just wear nana pants forever.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but not everyones will go away........as you lose weight it will get smaller but its stretched skin, so unless youve got really elastic skin surgery might be your only option..........i speak from 3 csections experience

I was 19 with my first and have been stuck with the apron since.........even when i got down to 57kgs albiet it wasnt as thick, it still hung over......but you didnt really notice it under clothes and could still wear a bikini and shorts etc but naked in the mirror is just nasty

So with number two it got slightly worse and with number 3 i even tried to get the surgeon to do a tummy tuck. .......
Im just grateful i didnt get any stretchmarks after my first and none of them were around my belly button so i can actually hide my apron and wear a bikini top (when i lost a heap of weight)

But those that are stuck with it, dont think its cos your FAT, cos i was a size 8 and still had it, so it doesnt define you as being fat and just cos you lose weight doesnt also mean you will lose the apron.....just think about all the biggest loser contestants they are often stuck with lots of stretched skin........

Has anyone actually seen just how much they stretch our skin so they can do the csection?? its not pretty and explains a lot

Im getting a tummy tuck for my 40th bday present.......well thats the plan anyway, ive lived with this since i was 19 i think i have earned a tummy tuck

I had a C-Sec 2weeks ago so mine is quite apparent at the moment but thought I'd pop in here to say that a friend of mine who had a C-Sec in June last year has been doing Zumba (you've probably seen the ads on tele) and she said it has helped heaps and she has lost most of her apron after only a few weeks of doing it so might be worth getting into that! I'm convinced! So as soon as I can get into regular exercise again, I'm getting me a Zumba DVD!!

I put on 20kgs when pregnant with my son, had an emergency C section then lost 25kg over the next year. I still have the apron thing a bit. My tummy stuck out less before I got pregnant - even when I was about 8kgs heavier than my lowest post pregnancy! Was worth it to get my beautiful son though

Would love some advice! I had my CS 6 months ago and hate my body!! I'm worried it will never go away!

I think everyone is different.
I didnt get an "apron" over my scar nor stretchmarks
some other issue thou from VB nothing to complain of from c/s
I went from 66kg to 84kg (18kg?)
the first 9kg came off easy, 2nd 9kg had to do fitness & aitkens diet to get it off in a month, definately hard to loose weight after c/s but not sure if this was cos it was 2nd pregnancy or c/s as 1st pregnancy was vb

So nice to read this post... I was wondering if it was just me that had this issue! I am not any heavier than pre-pregnancy but I have the 'apron' as you call it. It is so hard to find suitable trousers to wear ... low waisted and it hangs over, higher waisted and I feel like there is a tyre underneath my waistband! Doesn't help that my giant 10lb baby gave me stretch marks.

So... pilates, zumba and belly dancing seem to be the suggested exercises?! Walking and jogging doesn't make a difference as the belly just sort of bounces!

Sigh.

I am so glad this thread got started! I have one too, plus stretch marks above my belly button from my 10lb9oz boy!

God I remember seeing it the morning after my section when they helped me to the shower. Why are there full length mirrors in those bathrooms??!? I wish had taken a pic, its much smaller now, but def still there. Feels so weird under tights/high pants

Lillybets - Pre preg size 12, I think now I would be a 16? Hard to say, no new clothes bought yet! I was about 72kg pre pregnancy, 96kg at 37 weeks when I stopped looking and 81kg now. First lot came off easy, last 4kg have been hard, only 10 more to go!

eta P.S I bet our tummies are pretty alike really, could just be the angle and I'm scared of how it will look as I keep loosing weight

I think it's definately babies/pregnancy itself rather than c/s or vb, as a friend has a how do I put it..... "worse apron" and her babies were both vb

Really? I totally thought it was just from CS. But that brings me a little bit of comfort as we are wanting more kids in the future and I'm more than likely going to have more CS's.

Mine is a combo of two cs and of course the after-baby2 pouch hehe!! Most cs they cut a new line, remove the old skin scar and leave you with just the one but I have both after a crash cs & hurried surgeon.. Six months on it is a funny lump but not looking too bad...

Hi,

I have a small apron after having my ds by emergency cs in March. PD was the same as you. I put on 20kgs but I have been lucky enough to have so far lost 25kg. Although I have a bit of a bad habit of constintly eating at the mo. Must get off my butt and do some exercise to try and help mine.
