Once again I am restricting multiple foods in an attempt to improve my baby's health,..and finding myself getting very envious (and a tad jealous!) of those who can eat whatever they like while bf with no adverse effect on their baby. Its Valentines day and I would love to eat chocolate!!
Please share your story and tell me Im not the only one who gets jeaolus eating foods that for them are forbidden!
My story- Isla was an extremely unsettled baby, she was finally diagnosed with silent reflux at 5 months, and then dairy allergy. She also had terrible eczema. I started eliminating certain foods quite early on - the usual ones meant to be 'problem foods' while bf- cabbage/cauli/brocolli/caffine,....by the time I stopped bf her at 10months I wasnt eating dairy products or anything containing any trace of dairy products, soy, eggs, nuts, potatoes, acidic foods, chocolate, caffine, fizzy drink,...hmm Im sure there were more too! She was still covered in eczema and was still on reflux meds- 8 doses a day. We swapped to pepti jr formula and she improved and came off meds just before she was 1. At 18months she outgrew her dairy allergy but is still intollerant. Her eczema has been gone since she was 2, and she can now eat a normal diet other than limiting dairy.
Aiden is 5 weeks old, and totally different to what Isla was like as a baby! He feeds heaps better , sleeps ok and is relaxed and happy in between. However since he was a week old he had had what we think is bad wind from around 3 am -7am ish every day. He grunts/farts/cries/ and wonts settle much at all during that time. He has terrible hormone spots that are getting worse, and a bit of eczema. So once again Im eliminating stuff from my diet in an attempt to help him. Was already not drinking cows milk, only having 1 coffee a week and not eating bananas or onions, spicy food and cabbage.
Since Fri Ive stopped soy milk too as well as my one glass of diet coke I was having most days, and no choc. e already seems a bit better. He is certainly feeding for longer and is now going 3 hrs between feeds and had one 5 hr stretch between feeds yesterday evening! Yay!

My son had a bad wind problem (and mild reflux), and still does get an upset tummy with foods like onions. Sounds like Aiden is quite similar. Sounds like you know what gassy foods to avoid, we use Rhuger (rhubarb/ginger mixture made here in Dunedin, but can order online) which settles his tummy really well.
And I remember someone saying that you can eat Whittakers dark chocolate - no dairy in it!

I have whilst BF either a pretty strict lacto vegetarian diet or even vegan diet (by choice although my daughter has an egg allergy so I avoid eggs for that reason). It's no problem but oh boy avoiding soy and nuts whilst doing either of those diets would be hard yakka

I dont even know the difference between lacto vege and vegan!
Seems that Aiden reacts badly by being real unsettled for 24 hrs when I have even half a glass of soy milk. So no soy or cows milk. I am having cottage cheese and plain yougurt which seems to be ok. Nothing with sugar, and still no brocolli/cauli/onions, spices, garlic. Sometimes whens hes unsettled- like he has been all day today, I feel like giving up bf. Im sure today its a growth spurt tho cos hes been really hungry and feeling well every 2 - 2 1/2 hrs.

I'm on a super strict diet but I can have dairy & egg free choc cake & I've adapted it to be dairy & egg free banana cake Plus whittakers Dark I'm going to make my own eggs this year
Kellz I'm with you on the jealous, it makes it so hard doesn't it, coffee groups can suck cause you can't eat the yummy goodies unless you take your own. It's pain in the arse if you want to go & eat out. Mind you on the upside, it's money saving at times
Cooper hasn't officially been diagnosed as reflux but is now going great guns on Losec, last night was our first night of sleeping through! Huge mile stone from the 2 hourly wakings we had about 2 months ago. Can't wait to see the allergy paed in 2 weeks We initially started out under a cardiac specialist cause he was going blue, he still does if he eats banana but at least I don't worry about it now. I'm lucky my Dr agreed to trial him on gaviscon after me doing research on the net which pointed to the reflux.
I have contemplated giving up feeding him but we will have to go for a elemental formula because our goat & soy trials have failed
As much as I'm cutting out now days I think that I've actually probably got a better diet than before. The hard part is finding what he can tolerate, so many pre-made baby foods are out. I think we've had success with normal purple skinned kumara XF!!!
