Woo hoo - all this health scare stuff has given mike a kick in the right direction - he has been thinking alot about things lately and we had been talking about actually getting off our butts and getting married - since we have been engaged for close to 5 years now.

We have now officially set a date.. 1st March 2008. Which at first i thought was ages away - but now realise it's only 18 months and there's so much to do!
Where did you palmy ladies have ceremonies etc - right now we are swaying towards Wharerata up at massey cos it's beautiful.. but will have to go have a look in the next few months and book it.. there's also another place by aokoutere called pat's secret garden and that looks pretty gorgeous too.    Went looking at wedding dresses yesterday and realised i HAVE NO IDEA! there was one thati kept coming back to and was just acptivated by, but it's $2000 so will have to rethink that.. of try and find a budget version lol. trying to get away without too much extravagance and expense if possible, just have a nice wedding without too many bells and whistles. lol.

Now that it's all becomming a reality i have realised that theres so much to do and i dunno where to start.

We do however know that we are going to ask that in lieu of pressies (since we already have everything we need!!) that each guest pays for their meal which is $35 a head if we go with wharerata. so we'll see.

Any ideas etc would be great.

We had our ceremony and reception at the BathHouse. It was awesome!!

But pats secret garden is really nice!!!

As for dresses. If you wanna go a bit cheaper use 4 seasons bridal which is a part of the design and bridal studio now. All the dresses I looked at through them were under 1000. Otherwise theres always Simpsons dress hire. They had some really nice ones in there when I was being nosey while my girls were getting fitted.

If you want ideas etc. It was only in april that I got married. So it's still pretty fresh in my mind

Congratulations Janine! How exciting
My Dad got married a couple of years ago at a place called Highden Manor. It's a gorgeous place, and not too expensive I'd guess, as theirs was a very low-budget wedding.
This is the website if you're interested.

kewl - i went up to that bridal studio place in thel ink arcade cos they have a sale on at the mo - just to have al ook. I think that our bridesmaids dresses and the girls dresses will be made at this stage because mike insists that the colours have to be that cobalt blue, and we want the guys shirts that colour - so thought if they were made then they would be the same colour and fabric - plus mike's mum is a very advanced wonderful sewer - so may have to possibly ask her if she would consider it. I know that our girls will have white dresses, with fairy petals in rainbow colours over top of the dress, and since it looks as though Ayja will have the curls too we are going to make the most of it and prob have their hair mainly down, with a garland/halo of flowers.

I think we will save some money on the invites by doing them ourselves.. but we'll see.   I mean i am a bit of a party planner nut so I'm sure i'll come up with something!!

Will definately be dropping you a line if i need help though.

Good on yah Frantic I was going to suggest that. Janine I can so recommend my photographer PM if you want her details and if you want to see the photos I have millions (i've got a link for you to see them online). I got married at Kaingahou on Pioneer Highway, but I'm not sure if they are still doing wedding ceremonies there as it has just been sold or still in the process. We had our reception at the Kingsgate and it was a great meal and service and they give you a suite to stay in the night of you wedding for nothing. But if want any help I can help you with any vendors to look at or to stay away from.

Janine, friends of ours used our printer to do their invites. they bought the paper bulk from Warehouse Stationary and just typed and printed. They then put them together with some ribbon and fancy stuff, but they looked really beautiful and were a fraction of the cost.

as for venues, my freinds had a really laid back wedding in Pohangana. they rented the YMCA cabins, (bunk beds!), we all stayed the night and the wedding was held in a "bush chapeL" which was really sweet. All the wedding guests got vials and bubble mix and all the kids (and us!) spent the ccermenoy blowing bubbles. The photos from it were amazing!

Oh, and congratulations!

Well my wedding is dated 02/02/2008 so we are close together. I would look at a celebrant if your not getting married in a church as the one i wanted only had one day free so it is good to book early :)

Yay Janine! You guys will beat Willie and I to it at this rate lol!

Could you maybe get your MIL to make a copy of the dress you saw that you loved? Might work out cheaper and you would still get what you wanted.

Yay Congrats Janine!!!

I am not in palmy so cant help with venue etc but I did my own invites and I know a few things (not that you need help ...super mum). However Gordon Harris have some really good stock of nice papers and craft typre stuff and also have several ideas in their invite booklets. I got my invite idea from them, and it worked out great! I dont know if there is one in palmy but if you are ever in Akl, Wellington or Hamilton pop into one of the shops and have a look. If you order in bulk packets they also give you a discount.

Well good luck with planning....its so exciting!! I know you have loads of time but it will fly by quickly!!

I'm from NZWedding Planner too (am still on there a lot actually!) hehe

The girls dresses sound like they are going to be so adorable!!

Making invites definately saves a ton of money. Everyone thought that ours were made professionally but they actually were made by us using my good ol printer.

I'm quite happy to recommend everybody that we used for everything, they were all fantastic. Photographer, venue, flowers, salon etc

Good luck with all the planning.

Ooooh had a look at the highden website - mike thinks it's really pretty so i think we will be ringing and arranging venues soon. I have a celebrant thati want, he is my hairdressers dad and is wonderful, he did my sister's wedding. So i mean i have a celebrant i have the dresses all planned in my head i have the hairdresser, it's just all the other stuff. Am wondering about photographer, i know a few people who do weddings so may see if we can get them and maybe save a little $$$.

I think i know the site you are all talking about as well cos i joined there a long time ago when we had originally planned to have our wedding in 2005 - before i had paris and study/job got delayed.

Have seen some neat invites and kewl paper, and have a few ideas so we'll see. It's great to have people to share and talk to with this cos i don't want to overtalk it with mike.. otherwise i'll scare him off.

How exciting, Janine - very cool!

We married in Palmy in March 2005, so I'd be happy to recommend (or not) services from my experience.  I'd highly recommend our photographer, the venue, and we had a great experience with the caterers.  There's also another venue I'd warn you about!  We printed our own invites on spesh paper and saved lots of money (and it was kinda fun... for the first 100 or so!!!).  I'll PM you anyways...  and happy planning!!  We took 8 months to plan ours, and it was do-able.  It only got crazy in those last couple of weeks, which I guess happens for everyone.

congrats janine and mike!!
i can also highly recommend the NZWP site, i spent alot of time there while organising our wedding

one thing i will say to you....if you can, don't skimp on your dress! i found the perfect dress for $1500 but found a lady that made it for $700, it's my biggest regret   while the dress still came out lovely, it just wasn't perfect, you know??

My tip would be dont buy your dress too early! That was my big mistake! Brought dress for $1600 in March 2003 when we got engaged,..then we went to London and stayed 2 years instead of the expected 6 months-1 year,..and didnt get married until March this year! I had "gone off" the dress even tho it was perfect at the time I got it,..I had just changed I guess,..and so had my size! Got another one made for $550 which I loved!

am planning to go and have try on session at a couple of places when my sister is down next - (would like an objective eye... lol) to get an idea of the type of dress i like and what suits me... i like the idea of strapless, but then after having two kiddies and b/feeding ayja for so long, i would have to have a highly padded undergarmet in order to stop the dress falling down! (i now have pretty much no boobs at all )

Prob won't buy until quite close to the time. the first place i looked - where i looooved the dress, they usually order in 1 of the dresses ahead of time, then order in as you need it.. some can take up to 6 months so hence the early decisions.

Am definately buying my dress.

its good to try on absolutely every kind of style even if you dont think you will like it... I went shopping and kept trying on the same types of dresses, until finally I agreed to try on one my sister picked out (which didnt appeal to me at first) but then once it was on i saw it looked so different on me and it really suited me more than the style I had in mind, and i fell in love with it pretty much instantly...and to think I almost refused to try it on...*tut tut tut* - thats me -stubborn as a mule!

Oh and sisters are the best to shop with - if yours is anything like mine she will be honest (sometimes too honest!) but isnt it better to KNOW that you look like a fruity cake doll with a big ass in a particular dress than to be told by some shop assistant that you look "lovely"....?!?!?

I know i fit size x-small t-shirts now though, lol
i think i am between a size 8 and a 10.. cos of my hips being wider. My weight used to fluctuate quite a bit.. so wardrobe has sizes between 8 and 14.. came in handy when preg though.

lol yeah we had the 19 feb 2005.. our 5 yr anniversary, but Paris and Ayja and nursing cropped up.
Mike was acutlaly the one that set this date.. we had been talking about it cos i said to him that we'd need to get married before his eyes packed up completely, cos he wouldn't want to be blind on his wedding day and we didn't want to wait till he'd had his op.

he then just came up the other day and said that 1st march would be good, cos it's near our birthdays, and also it doesn't interfere with speedway (which is when our anniversary falls - on the biggest speedway meeting weekend usually) I wouldn't want him to spend the day thinking about speedway... lol.. which i know he somehow would.

oooh that's gorgeous - i have seen that somehwere before - maybe in one of the wedding guide thingies that comes out with the paper once a year - i have 2 from ages ago when we originally were starting to plan. That'll be beautiful.

We want a garden type setting too.. thinking of wharerata... depends on pricing ultimately. don't want to go with the rose gardens cos heaps of people we know have got married there including 1 of my sisters.. and it's beautiful there, but i don't want to do the same as them... even though it is cheaper... which might mean it may end up being our choice.. dunno.

we had thought bout pats gardens but now that we can get it cheap at Rathkeale we may go there I think. It does mean peeps would have to travel but cos theres accom on the grounds its no biggie plus the caterer lady said to naths mum that they could do a bbq breakky the next morning for everyone too.

Kiya stayed with my parents while Nathaniel and I were on our honeymoon... we got married at the start of January (so that our anniversary would always be in the school holidays), and Mum already had the time off to look after my brother and sister who were in primary/intermediate at the time.

She had stayed overnight with them before a few times, but never longer than from around dinnertime until lunch the next day. The week (Monday after the wedding until the following Sunday) that she was there went well... we sent her a postcard while we were away and rung her a couple of times.

Becs yors dress is beautiful!! Wow...very unique!!

Janine one of our friends printed their invite....hubby went and got some bamboo.....cut them at each break and put the invite inside put a ribbon around the bamboo, got a friend to engrave "invite" on top (they delivered the invites mostly themselves...)...it was sooooo cool!! I dont know how they send them tho...???

hey that sounds kewl, have had a few interesting idea for invites, i reckon i have a while to figure them out at this point just getting dresses and venues sorted for now.. since well, they are probably the biggest things and most expensive-ish.

Also, since mikes mum has said she will make the BM dresses, and the guys shirts (cos we want them matching)and the flowergirls dresses... we need to start thinking about them - my head bridesmaid lives in london at the mo - so possibly will only get to try stuff with her when she comes home this xmas.. and we might not see her again until 1 week before our actual wedding... so have to figure it out.

At the mo i am deciding between 2 dresses, There is one that is A-line and i think it would set me apart from our bridesmaids dresses, cos they are fairly similar to the other one which is more slimline - and possibly more me.. an unsure if i am a poofy type of girl. lol. The A-line one i know the place in palmy is getting in in a few weeks, so will be able to try it.. the other i just happened to spy on the designers website - from a different range but same designer.. am hoping the shop might be getting those in too - otherwise i will be paying Welly a visit as they have a boutique there.

Here's the links.. the http://www.essensedesigns.com/files/ella/5159.html - A-line one and the http://www.essensedesigns.com/files/onepiecefiles/D373.html - slimline one.

If that's the case and i have to travel then may call upon a couple of impartial Welly ladies to come with me firstly so i don't get lost, and also to give me some advice, lol...

They are both lovely dresses, Janine! I like the streamlined one, but that's just because it has similar lines to my own dress

I like the A-Line personally, but I guess you'll have to try them on and see which one suits you the most.
I would suggest going down to Wellington though....I love wellington.

The A-line would be good to hide body bits but the stream line one is gorgeous and I definitely think you could pull it off and look fantastic!

They are both beautiful!!!

lol yeah i think my hips have slightly expanded since having the girls - damn remodelling! oh well - will more than likely be walking at least to, or from work each day soon - so thats a 25 min walk at least 4 days a week - i think that counts as exercise! lol.

we have been nuts at the moment trying to get a few things sorted early cos realised since i'll be on rostered shifts i won't always be free when mike is and definately not always during opening hours of shops lol,   have started a website - very early but just keeping BM up to date at the mo and my older sis who is helping me with a few things. lol.

Ooooh only a week or so till the dresses are in the shops - will be arranging a try on and might post some pics (lol, very sneakily)

Oh wow Janine both those dresses are stunning - If it was me I woudl go with the A-line - having a bottom part that flares out like that makes your waist look so incredibally small, but like I said they are both amazing...!
