If your little one is anything like Blair - our 2 1/2 year old, he is totally besotted with cranes. Luckily we live near the Claudelands Showground development area
We have scounted out a couple of really good vantage points, so thought why not combine some viewing, with a picnic lunch, and meeting new friends? And maybe afterwards, heading to the playground at the park there? Anyone keen? -------------

Haven't forgotten this, will probably look at next week, and hope the weather holds out for us. Think I have found us a good place after an 'interesting' conversation with someone down that way late last week -------------

No we haven't done it yet, planning on this week, the long range forecast has it potenially cloudy, patches of rain etc for Tuesday and Wednesday, but I think that Tuesday is our best bet ladies.
I would suggest for those driving either to park at Claudelands park, and then walk down towards the construction site, or park on the side of heaphy tce. Just after the Waikato World office on the left is a carpark, and a good grassy patch in there for crane spotting, we can hang out there for a bit and either do lunch there, or walk back to the playground, let our 'big kids' run around and have a play and do lunch then. What time suits you girls? Just trying to work around morning and afternoon sleepers here. 11ish? 11.30ish? -------------

We'll try make it. Evelyn has woken up with a cold and she can hardly breathe. The wind might be a bit cold. This now sounds like I'm a big wuss. LOL I'm sick of colds. this is her third. It's blue skies I can see towards that area from my place. There seems to be a bit of cloud further over towards Glenview. Yeah it's looking a mixed package here too. Blue towards the construction site, and greyish out the other way, but the sun looks like it's trying to shine.
Unless it rains I'll probably head over anyway, gives me a chance to get out of the house with the boys, and let DH sleep without too much distraction. I'll be at between the carpark and the construction site along heaphy tce probably between 11 and 12ish, and at the park from midday. -------------

can't remember how long it takes to walk down but we are getting ready to head out door now. Metservice says no rain so I have my fingers crossed as I so don't wanna get caught in the rain but I shall tempt Murphy and have a brollie in pram (now watch as it pours down when I am 10 mins down the road  )

I was thinking the same thing NM, those older kids certainly have a mind of their own, and get them together..... Just think in a years time we are going to have the gang going left right and centre.
Will get pics uploaded when I can, about to risk the grotty weather and go for a walk, off to see the fish at the petshop, pick up a couple of things at the supermarket, and of course, Blair wants to see the crane :) -------------

lol MM. I can imagine over the time Claudeland's is a building site you will sure get sick of cranes At least it gives you somewhere close to take the kids outside with the weather looking risky.

Talking to the crane driver yesterday - after Blair got to sit in the crane cab - lucky boy. It looks like the truss (roof thing) will be going up now on Tuesday, he thinks about 11am, but one of the other crew have my number.. I'll let you guys know if the time changes, otherwise we'll be in our picnic spot about then if anyone wants to watch -------------
