I'm so excited!!! My GP said that today I can start (very slowly) weaning off the citalopram. I've taken 1 1/2 today (was on 2) and will stay at this for a while...def don't want to rush it.
Has anyone else weaned off and how long did it take??
I never thought I'd look forward to coming off the meds. This time last year I was scared sh*tless that I'd never get better.
If anyone reads this who's in a really scary place, please try and tell yourself it will get better...I know it's hard to imagine (I didn't believe it) but it is true!! I can honestly say I love my life

Yay for getting to the point where you are ready to wean - well done!!!
When I weaned I followed my dad's advice (he's a drug counsellor), I went to 1 tablet a day for 2 weeks, then half a day for two weeks. And then stopped.
He had said I could do a quarter tablet for a further 2 weeks but that its benefit would likely be psychological and I felt ready by that point to stop completely.
I didnt have any problems and havent had to use medication since. I also haven't yet had PND with my 2nd child *touch wood*.

I asked and she was happy with it.
I'm going to do it really slow...I'll stay on 1 1/2 until I see her next (not sure when). I came off my night time meds very slowly with her help and it was great - I'm so excited!!

Yay Anna, so happy for you. Just take it really slowly, and keep checking in with your Dr and you should be fine

hey that's so good to hear! I hope it goes well for you.
I've been on 13 diff meds and am currently only on two so I've weaned off lots of meds and I tell you the BEST thing you can do it take is slowly- better to do it slowly but get there in the end than do it quickly and relapse and have to go back on them. Sounds like you're in a pretty good place though and you know to take it slow so I'm sure it'll be great
edited to say: I have weaned off Citalopram but I had to do it over a few days- Really don't recommend that, it was horrid! Felt like I had the flu, I had the shakes and a fever and everything other meds that I've weaned off though i found that doing it slow I still might feel funny for a few days but by day 3 I felt normal again. Good luck!

Yeah I have no experience weaning off meds slowly either- I had to go cold turkey off a triple dose after an allergic reaction- had the hidious time with withdrawls like u Amelia.
