Thought I'd start a new thread for us to chat in. Hope that is okay
So this time I'm on a mission, TBH I wasn't really that dedicated last time but I have a wedding to go to on 13th Nov and it will basically be a highschool reunion so that's a pretty big motivator for me! So my goal is to lose 5kgs by then.
Took photos and did my measurements this morning.
Anyone done the couch to http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml - 5k program ? I despise running and are seriously unfit but with limited time I think it will be the most time effective exercise for me. I have downloaded the podcasts that go with it - now just have to get off the couch! Dumb question though, for those of you who use an ipod when exercising where do you put it?? My trackies don't have pockets, can you buy a clip or something for it??

Yay!
You just reminded me to do my measurements. I am really gunning for a good loss this time too so will be putting in the essential hard work to get what I want.
I am and have been keen as a bean to do C25K. I have an app on my ipod that allows you to add your own music. I have an arm band for my ipod - yet to be used so I can't rate it but it is a belkin one and was about $40 at Dick Smiths. I get very tight calves when I run which result in extreme cramps and I then can't run properly. Apparently I have very poor running technique, heel strike and impact very hard when I run so I am currently getting running techniques from my trainer (also my Mum) and will put them to the test with C25K. Of course I expect my legs will protest, but not to the point of it being unbearable I hope!

Yeah I've given the C25K a go, I found it pretty good cos I too hate running but really wanted to like it. I was doing pretty well, but I got to about week five where I had to run 20min and through hell no I can't do that and gave up. But I'd really like to give it another go, I go to the gym and use the treadmill to do mine so I just rest my ipod on there but also do have one of those armband ipod holders which is pretty good.
That ipod app sounds like a good idea Xela, got a bit sick of the music that I downloaded with the C25K program. Where did you get the app from?
Maybe we could get a group together and all start at the sametime, just an idea…

Wantabub - I bought the app from the ipod store - think it was a few bucks or so. I would be keen for a group - I am not entirely sure when I will be starting though - probably in a couple of weeks.

Morning ladies
I have to say I feel right at home already, it's not a good thing but I have the same problems as you have all mentioned above:
- I hate to run - but I want to like it as I know it will help the weight loss big time
- My calves get really tight when running (or walking long distances) and I know for me it is down to the huge amount of weight I'm carrying - far too much for my height
The lowest weight I have been in a long time was 75kg just before our wedding in Feb 09 and that was still too high for my height (the whole BMI obese thing sucks!)
My goal is to get back down to that and then continue on to get into a healthy weight range, ideally by Noah's 1st birthday so I can like what I see in the photos...I hardly have any photos of him and me because I hate what they look like
Sorry for the ramble, just felt the need to put down in writing WHY I'm doing this, mainly to remind myself
Good luck everyone - we can do it!

Hey all!
I've done the C25K before and finished it, man it felt awesome being able to jog 30 mins straight!!
I've been thinking of starting it again too, great idea about having a group and starting it all together Wantabub
Other than Robert's podcasts there is another one. It's hip hop music, nice change from the trance/house stuff.

when i was a PT i used to get my clients to do it. i did it slightly different though. do week 1, 2, 3, 4 then back to 3, 4, 5, 6 then back to 5, 6, 7, 8 etc... this way your body gets a wee bit of a break and you find you dont lose any fitness in the process.
i find it quite hard getting out for a run. by the time DH gets home and we spend our time sorting the kids and everything and then it is dark. all good though. i seem to be doing ok.
moving to aussie has my arse on fire as far as motivation goes. its really stupid but i spend heaps of time on the bondi rescue facebook page reminding me of where i will be living soon and how much i dont want to look like this.
im currently around 78 which is what i have been since i was 14 give or take a couple of kilo's from going up or down at various time. but this is the weight my body seems to be set to so every time i go down i get so excited that this will be the smallest i have ever been if that makes sense. i want to lose at least 500g a week. if i lose 800 one week i still want to lose at least 500 the week after cos last BL i lost nearly a kg a week for the first half and virtually nothing the second half.
im really hoping ppl keep chatting in here heaps cos i think it will be an awesome support network

Yes my dedication wained last round!...but not any again. I want to lose about 8kg...definitely want to slim down for being a bridesmaid in April....and to be a healthy weight when we start TTC #2 next year sometime. I was a frikken heffalump at my boy's 1st birthday..and even now 20kg lighter I still HATE having photos. I can't wait for the day when I don't even give it a second thought when photos are taken.

Yea I would really like to lose at least 6 kgs this round - obviously the more the better!!
I will get my body fat measured before training tonight as well and see how much I can get that down in 9 weeks.
If I am correct, this challenge finishes on December 1st - just in time before Christmas!!
Where's Kicker? I am sure she will muster up a challenge for us any day now!

Ditto! For the last 7-8 years I've been the one taking the photos and it only slightly bothered me but now we have Noah I would love to have photos together but I hate the way I look.

for three days in a row i have done 40 pressups, 20 sit ups and 20 tricep dips off the couch. its not much but it is better than nothing and my tummy is heaps flatter. just from actually using the muscles and remembering what they feel like and stuff and im more aware of them when i stand and walk etc

Final weigh in is 24th of November so I think it's 8 weeks. 9 weigh ins altogether including last nights. I think I may have had spirit fingers in previous thread as it's supposed to be 8 weeks and finish on the 24th (hate uneven numbers).
I hate the way I look in photos too!! And I hate it more when people know you don't like having your picture taken and then they whack one up on FB anyway!!!
I HATE running unless it's after DS and will never even think about C25K again. Just seeing the words/letters is making me want to superglue my butt to the couch. Absolutely no running. None, wouldn't even do it for a pair of new shoes. Nup. NO!
I am MOTIVATED as we have booked a holiday and have booked it to coincide with end of BL so that I have enough time to slim down and wear some nice beachy clothes. Can't wait.

i want to put my weight loss ticker up but then i lose my kids ones so i can win.

My before pictures are in my bikini and they are horrid. I also have a picture of me at the zoo with DS in front of the hippos and I swear they look anorexic.
And I'm really struggling today coz I'm so darn tired. Does anyone else really hate healthy food when they're overtired?
I think that has been a huge part of my problem this year is my insomnia has been really really bad.

Hey All,
I am doing this but don't expect to see very many posts from me sorry!! Will try my hardest but with looking after DD, working two jobs, planning a move and a wedding I'm pretty run off my feet.
So yea obviously my wedding is a pretty big goal for me, I need to fit my wedding dress and probably need to shed about 6 kg to do so. I have started with shakes in the morning as I was finding I wasn't having breakfast and if I was it wasn't healthy. Need to get in some more exercise aswell, our new house has a massively steep driveway so that will be a help! Oh and I want to give the C25K a go tooo
Good luck everyone!!
(ps Bliss, I promise I will get round to replying to your PM soon!)

Hi all.
New thread Yay. i posted a photo of me over in "the weight loss girls" on the top of page 10.
DP's dad snuck a picture of me as i got myself unstuck from in the snow.
i know im big but seeing it in photos makes it more real. Scary real
I need to loose weight before we go to australia - fly out Nov 20 as none of my summer clothes fit me (and i cant afford new ones)
I am so going to try the C25K programme. DP going to give it a go too.
last time i tried running i forgot to take my ventolin inhaler with me and nearly died running the length of the football feild (poles to poles) but that was running - a racel; trying to beat each other. not a nice Jog

Well done for resisting temptation at the work do monikah! Those things are always will power testing!
I'm so bad - I had Wendy's for lunch even as I was going through the drive through I was thinking I shouldn't be doing this I shouldn't be doing this *sigh* but I still did it
I suppose the saving point for me was that dinner was reasonably good - chicken enchiladas with salad and got a bit of a workout doing the nightly clean at my part-time job
(can someone tell me how to get more than 1 ticker? I'd like to add a weight loss one but can't seem to get it to fit!)

i just had this same problem. its just a case of finding one that isnt real long. you can just add it in after the code from your other one in your profile. you should be able to fit it in easy enough as long as both combined donnt go over 200 characters

Welld one Monikah - iron will!
Well it seems my scales have bitten the dust! I will probablyinvest in some new ones before next weeks weigh in.... between now and then my eating and exercise will be my only evidence of good performance.
Yesterday was good - hard out training session again, good food all day including home made chicken soup for dinner, even home made stock - sooo yummy! That was the first chicken soup I have ever made and I quite like it.

Hey Hun,
I've got two different shakes but I've been having them with milk, the healtheries ones, and then also one called Thermomax I think and its from Health2000, you can have it with either milk or water that one. I figured I'd try with milk first and see how it goes if its not doing so well I'll switch to water.

I buy one by the sport foods company - it's about $20-$25 a container. I like the vanilla flavour - it is delicious when blended with vanilla soy milk or add a banana in :-) I only have it occasionally and my current container must have lasted me at least three months so far...

It's a bit more - I think I used to work out a morning protein shake with 1 cup soy as 3.5 points. I think with normal milk maybe about 3? Can't actually remember now
I am so hungry today but that is probably from our hard out training last night - I brought heaps of fruit to work today to munch on though ;-)

ppl that do WW - how much is a small trim flatwhite. i just guessed off a 250ml of trim milk but the actual points value would be really good. im using WW meals and my flatties points calculator that she left behind but not actually on WW so i cant just look it up.
oh my gosh screw the bikini body. right now my goal is to lose enough to feel comfy. im walking round uni and its roasting after walking up the hill and im wearing a frikin polar fleece cos i dont want to take it off! its good having an intermediate goal though. wont get as discouraged as i would losing 5k and still looking terrible in a bikini. LOL.
even so, i went to the pizza stand and bought a bottle of water! i still am yet to go over my points :D in fact, today i am being really good cos friends are coming over 2nite and brining malaysian so im keeping my points really low so that i can just have a teeny bit of dinner and still be ok. i even genuinly think i wont eat much cos i am crazy motivated. im already down 300g from wed and drunk 2 massive glasses of coke zero last night which normally makes me retain fluid.

gonna do my groceries in the morning too so i have a whole week of food and dont have to pop in and out of the supermarket all week

Hi everyone, just a quick tip from me being a diabetic (gestational) and DH is a diabetic. Not trying to lecture anyone just hoping my experience can possibly help others (so feel free to skip over my comment). Smoothies can be the devil in disguise...looking at the post above (Sorry blissful not picking on you) but fruit juice (packed full of fructose) and a banana (HUGE carbs) sounds very healthy but is actually a calorie overload and when (like i had to do) you look at the total kilojoules (and the high glyceamic index) it's not a particularly good weight loss breakfast and can give you a huge spike in sugar levels and make you feel pretty empty half an hour later. A bobby banana (the likkle cute ones) is 30g of carbs and a good size, perfect for a snack between meals.
Sorry if that sounded a bit negative, i just want to see everyone succeed in their weight loss goals

Luna_Azzura I had GD with both my last 2 & when I had my follow up test after DS3 I was just under the level but they were lowering the level so I think I should go get tested again. I saw a dietician at the hospital but have forgotten most since then & totally forgot about the fruit juice etc.
I was finding I was hungry after my shakes but they did not have fruit in them & where the ones bought from the supermarket.

The smoothies work for me. It's when I don't have them I seem to fall off the wagon. I'm not a huge breakfast eater. The banana is usually my main carb of the day so I find that better than toast. For me I find this sets me up well for the day. I don't eat a lot of fruit and won't eat cereals and muesli. For me it's a case of finding something I will eat rather than just skipping breakfast and I've always found the smoothies fill me up really well. I don't drink it too quickly though so maybe that's why.
If I do feel like actually eating something I usually have crumpets with banana and honey.
What suits one person won't suit the next though.

Sounds like you have a good head on those shoulders Blissful i just used to get into trouble with the fruit smoothies as i thought i was being really good but it was a bit of a carb overload for me (but i was having carbs in the evening too) and the sugar (fructose) would send my glucose readings sky high. I just wondered why i wasn't loosing weight and then the nutritionist picked this up...whoops! Was just pointing it out for anyone who didn't' know (like me)
Are they lowering the levels Jazzy, oh dear. I am slightly dreading GD again if we have #2, but i got through it once so i can do it again hey how did you go 2nd and 3rd time around? did you have to really watch your diet or much the same?

i dont know :S we walked to the park which is at least 2.5km from home and then back. it was a moderate pace but not pace not not exactly hard and i didnt check how long it took. its all good though. 5km a day is probably pretty normal anyway so im not gonna subtract it from my points. the amount of food im getting on 20 points is more than enough. anyway, time for bed for me. the longer i stay up when i having nothing to do the more i start thinking bout food and ive been so perfect id kick myself

I am back this week, the first week has been a bit of a bomb as i was away for work and staying in a hotel so although i tried to make good choices you never know what they put into the food. I am also finally over being sick (had a cold, ear infection and sinusitis for the last 6 weeks!!!) so back into exercise this week.
On that note, have you all seen the first challenge

Note to self. never turn 21 the first week of biggest looser.
I did so well at the party last night though. I only had 3 standard glasses of lemonade, and 2 vodka lemonade and limes and i avoided the savouries and only had 1 sandwich, and didnt have much cheese, crackers or cheese balls.
but oh god the jellybeans, they are so addictive and so bad.
and my other meals werent too healthy so im gonna have to do extra this week to burn it all off.
But yay im 21 now - well as of 10.21pm tonight

5k walk is great! And if you were at a moderate pace it sounds like you were doing it right! If you can still hold a light conversation (so your not going so fast you can't talk, but not so slow that you could have a great big chin wag) then your on the money. Basically then you know your energy system you are using to walk is the "fat burning one" rather than going too hard and using more glycogen sitting in the muscles. If you were going about a 7ish/10 then thats pretty good stuff! Can't help with the WW points on that one sorry.

Are they lowering the levels Jazzy, oh dear. I am slightly dreading GD again if we have #2, but i got through it once so i can do it again hey how did you go 2nd and 3rd time around? did you have to really watch your diet or much the same? |
They were lowered after I had DS3 (he is 4). I had a test when he was 6weeks old & just scraped in but was told if I had had it done after it was lowered I wouldn't of.
I had it with DS2 was picked up through the pg. With DS3 I was tested a few weeks in to my pg & put straight on to insulin, high does several times a day & it was hard. I was not planning on getting pg with DS3 so quickly, was not trying, was concentrating on losing weight & getting fit. I would not like to have GD in another pg now as the last one was so much hard than the second one. Totally puts you off needles, noway I could be a drug user with needle 8mths of stabbing myself several times a day was enough.
I just remembered through this talk about GD, I was in a drug study & had to have a check up when DS2 was about 6mths old for the study & they did my weight & measurements etc & we have to go back & have it done again when he is 6yrs old.....ekkk that's December so I need to get cracking, so want to see a difference

So how did everyone do over the weekend??
I am now back ont he straight and narrow. Have a PT session tonight, i think i have my fat% redone next week so am hoping to see a good drop.
Does anyone know what is considered a realistic drop in body fat after 6 weeks?? I dont want to think it will be say 10% when in fact 1% is more realistic IYKWIM

in 6 weeks probably around the 2-3% mark if you are quite overweight. closer to 1-2% if your under about 80kg. depends though. if you go nuts and work real hard you might lose quite a lot more

Happy 21st MT!!!
Good start to the week here so far. Have been dancing up a storm with DS this morning in between our chores. Hoping he will have his nap this afternoon so I can jump on the treadmill. Hate doing it in the evening when DH is home. He's worse than a child and I can't do anything start to finish without him harassing me for something.
Does anyone have anything specific planned for dinner? I'm in the mood for a little variety tonight but don't want to find myself tucking in to the lasagna I've made for DS and DH.

Mon - wow what a bonus, you did more ha ha love that (hate it when it feels like more but it was actually less).
Yum Kicker, your dinner sounds great! Mine was not so good as Dh requested venison sausages and i couldn't be bothered cooking 2 diff meals. I did put more steamed vegies on the plate and only a wee bit of kumera mash so hopefully it wasn't too bad?
Loving the sunshine, really motivating me to get out in the sunshine and exercise. And the lighter evenings too.
Jazzy - gosh that sounds hard being put on insulin so early with DS3. I think anyone who can go through GD 3 x deserves a medal

I try not to get too anal about it as i found it made me quite resentful...mon how much is the online one?
i guess hard for me too cause used to 30 points for 3 months:)

i use 20 a day and walk 60-90 mins and find it plenty. lol. im really not a big eater though which is my main problem. thats why im doing WW so i can get my metabolism working again and make sure i eat enough.
only is $1 joining right now and 3 months for 69 i think, or 89. cant remember. lol. i reckon i spend more than that on coffee anyway so i figure it will be good for me

Just to let you know mon in case you didn't know, if you sign up for the 3months WW online, they still keep renewing your subscription until you email them to cancel, and you have to cancel a month in advance if that makes sense.

Hi guys - sorry to be so late joining in, we reached the 80% limit on our broadband the other week and so I was off Lionel til the new month clicked over on Saturday .
Well I have had a pretty average start - only one zumba class last week not 3 and dinner out with DH and a weekend at the ILs
Back on to it yesterday
I did ww a few years ago and lost 17kg and have kept it off through 2 pregnancies. I found that if i kept to 18 points day and did exercise the weight came off at a pretty steady rate.
Right, betteer get moving and hang out the washing. bbl.

Morning everyone Looks like a good week for some of us! me included yay! Am so so happy with my loss, now if I can just keep it up!! Mostly with the shakes I think its is helping cause DF makes sure i have it every morning where as I wasn't eating breakfast normally, and then I don't have anything till lunchtime, I may have a small afternoon snack, but am keeping my meals healthier, I love that its more like summer cause I love having salad with some type of meat with it. Oh and I'm trying to be really good and not eat anything after dinner, Last night I craved ice cream really bad but I didn't have any!

Keep the weigh ins coming ladies, have got 9 so far
I'm the opposite with ice cream. I have some WW ones in the freezer still from months ago. We just don't really eat it. We don't actually buy a lot of junky type foods at all. The problem really is my dinner portions because I often wouldn't eat all through the day and then have pasta or something else carb based for dinner. It's quite empowering tucking into my stir fry every night though while I watch DH and DS eat all the 'yummy' dinners

1st week and I managed a gain! I just don't have the motivation to exercise. Usually my eating it okay hence why my weight has been stagnant for the past 6mths. This past weekend we had a family get together so ate far too much. DS is still a crappy sleeper at nearly 17mths so I'm always so tired and can't be bothered to exercise!

So how is everyones motivation now the first week is done??
I am still aching from my PT session on monday.... great stuff i also managed a boxing class yesterday which my PT just happens to instruct so no slacking off there. My weight loss this week was pretty good for me as i tend to average 500grm loss a week.
I am doing WW online and there is a graph there which tracks your weight loss and i must admt that its just nice to see the big trend down. I am nearly at the 20kg loss mark since starting in may, 600gms to go, so hoping i can be good this week and get there.
Keep up the good work everyone.

Morning all
Ohh I'm excited to see the results of the first weigh in of the round (bet I wouldn't be if I had a gain though LOL)
Been for a couple of walks over the past week - did the Dove Pink Star Walk (5km) on sat night and my calves didn't cramp up YAY! And yesterday walked down to the shops, had subway for lunch and walked home again which is approx. 3km..oh and I ran/jogged part of the way home which got my heart racing
Eating has been okay, really need to get back to counting my points again though.
