aww congrats little red and the rest of the mums-to-be who'll be in this thread.

August is a special month to me, both my boys were born in August.  Great time of year to have a bub, being that you're pregnant through winter so you have your belly to keep you warm.

YAY! Wow so we are the first two!

I'm on the hunt for a midwife today, want to get one quickly so it is all sorted, with my other 3 I just went through my dr but she is just too far away and I have a feeling I won't make it over to NS hospital so will have to opt for waitakere lol - midwife it is!!

Yeah, I am going to sort out my midwife today too, Freckle recommended hers to me. I would ask my friends but we're not telling anyone I'm pregnant yet. I wish I had listened harder now when my friends were banging on about their midwives!

I also have to ring my specialist and make an appt for an early scan, he wants to do it around 5 weeks, and also do some BTs to check the HCG levels.

Have you told anyone yet??

Have told a few people not too many. Want to wait to do the big announcement til we can make sure Peanut is fine.

We told the kids last night was pretty funny, miss8 clapped her hands and was smiling alot, DS asked if it could be a boy and he could call it Theron after his best friend and miss 5 looked at me and said "Iknow mummy! gosh" Then proceeded to tell me that it must be really tiny because I'm not fat yet!

I was looking for this thread on Friday! Yay now its here!
Hi Little Red, Peaches and RinTinTin. Congrats to you all!!

I haven't been given a due date by doc yet, but by my calculations, should be around the 1st August! Second child... going to be quite a short gap - but hopefully will be all good! Don't know if we'll find out the sex. DH I think doesn't want to but I kinda do! We moved about a year ago when I was about 7 months preg - so had a midwife in Chch and midwife down here in Queenstown. So I'll be using my Qtown midwife again. Yay! Perhaps will end up in Chch again though for birth... depending on if this one plays acrobats or not! (my first was breech - so no chance of having naturally down here!)

I'm fine so far... but I think morning sickness didn't start for me last time until around 6 weeks.... sooo I potentially have one more week before it hits! I have been pretty tired though... but with a 10 month old - that wasn't anything new!! haha.

Midwife is visiting tomorrow and going to do another blood test to make sure my levels are going up...

Morning girls.

L_R - I want to try for a surprise but in honesty, I shouldn't kid myself, we'll more than likely find out the gender. Also, can you change my EDD to the 7th of August. I'll go off the OB EDD calculator since that's the one I used last time.

I'm feeling pretty good for now. Only real symptom so far is my increased appetite which sucks cause I was hoping to keep my weight gain down this time. I put on over 30kg last time and want to try and halve that this time.

My son came 6 days early so I'm kind of expecting this one will be a bit early, however, that's a few months down the track so not too worried just yet.
Also, I'm hoping for a Home Birth. Had a very easy, fast and straight forward birth with my son so I'm confident we can do a Home Birth safely. Have found a MW, just need to contact her.

phew! Started to panic there for a second, had a bit of brown blood this morning so just spoke to my midwife, should be fine apparently, she said to call her straight away if it turns bright red but she said it should be fine. I never actually had it with my other 3 not that I ever noticed anyway. Now I feel like a complete nob! lol

Hey RTT, I've updated the list for you. Good to hear you're feeling good so far, I am as well apart from the odd twinge and I think I have a UTI so I will talk to my MW about that on Thurs.

Peaches, that must have given you a scare! I have read that some spotting can be quite common in early preg, I'm sure you're all good

I would have panicked too - we all would have!!!! Bet your glad you've got your midwife sorted so early!!!!

I'm going to use an OBGYN that's been referred to me by a friend.... With the operation I had last year, apparently it can cause premature labour as the cervix has been thinned.... so thought I'd better go to a specialist the whole way through...

Awww man, thought I'd found a good MW and I was really excited about her. Just gave her a call and got an answer phone and out flows this half-hour long (ok exaggeration), really ponsy sounding message that goes along the lines of:
"Sorry I can't take you call, my phone might be out of service, or maybe its X, or it could be X. If you are calling within normal business hours please call my home line on ********, I repeat that ********. If you call is of an urgent midwifery nature please call my pager on ********, I repeat that *******..." I hung up once I got that far.
And she's a Pom *slaps forehead* (haha, my Dad is a Pom)
So I rang her home line and I got ANOTHER ponsy sounding answer phone message.

*shakes head* Nope, don't think her seemingly quiet, "proper" nature will mesh very well with my out spoken, brash self.

Better start hunting for another one.

Haha classic RTT!
I know what you mean, I'm hoping I get on with my midwife, it's pretty blardy important when she's going to be looking up my whats-it!

Good luck with your MW hunting.

Any other August mums-to-be out there??

LOL!!!!!

No ponsy person will be looking at my vajayjay that's for sure!!!!

The obgyn I've been referred to is down to earth and very funny apparently - sounds right up my alley!!!!

I hope to get an appt with him next week - need referral from my Dr, which I'll get on Thursday...

Until then I'm constantly undie checking and POAS!!!! Please tell me it's not just me....

Went out and bought a pack of FR and a clearblue today - to go with the 20 ICs at home.... hubby thinks I'm insane, but this just doesn't feel real, so will have to keep testing.... and I just don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing that second line

Anyone had any preggo symptoms yet? I know they don't really come in for a couple more weeks... but am over thinking them... same as TWW symptom spotting.

I've got none, apart from bought some strawberries for lunch... really felt like them... they looked amazing.... and I love them... usually.... now they make me fee blugh!!!!! Got me a couple of packets of gingernuts to keep in my drawer at work for emergencies

Hey KM, I'm a serial undie checker too, it's hard not to be isn't it?? I have only done two tests though, I've got one left that I think I will do on Thurs morning before I see the MW just to make doubly sure. It would be pretty crap turning up and her going "you're not pregnant, you're a crazy person!"

As for symptoms I have sore boobs, crampy twinges off and on, bloating, SO tired and nausea first thing in the morning, but it goes away when I eat breakfast.

I'm struggling with the whole "what can and can't I eat" thing. I'm gluten intolerant as well and now that I'm pregnant it makes it twice as hard! I usually have sushi every day for lunch How are you guys getting on with the food thing?

I'm LOVING being pregnant though! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It's such an awesome, surreal feeling

Posted By: mimpoh
Date Posted: 30 November 2010 at 7:53pm
:) Yay. Yeah I'm not feeling nausea yet and TBH that can hold off as long as it likes! its not nice!! A constant hangover feeling...

however have been having slight crampys this evening... i think thats just a normal thing... i hope! I saw my midwife today - same one we used last time. RTT why are you not using your previous midwife? She gave me a bounty pack and all that... reminded me about what i shouldn't eat... but really there's not too much you can't eat... Just general food hygiene really...

i am still a bit tired though... and I must say, one of the things about not having symptoms yet means you have to keep reminding yourself you are preg... and sometimes you feel like you might not be. one good thing about the morning sickness... while its there you know you are preg!! I still haven't really come to grips with it. yay though. Hoping the age gap is ok for Lillia...

Morning ladies....

Although I wish it wasn't the case... I might be leaving you soon....

I've had a massive temp drop this morning (from 36.96 to 36.56) and my test this morning (FR with FMU) is still faint - and a tiny bit fainted than yesterdays!!!!

So I'm thinking that this isn't going to work out for me this time. Very sad.

Weird as I still have no sign of AF and am now overdue - and I usually get 1-2 days spotting before and have no sign of that either....

I guess this is a time will tell thing for me.... Dr appt tomorrow night so will find out there I guess.

But it's a real let down after yesterday...

Hope everyone else's days are better than mine - and hopefully we get some more August mummies to be today!!!!

KM, STOP TEMPING!!!! I haven't temped since my BFP for that very reason. Check out BK's chart in the charting thread, she had a big temp drop after her BFP and she is still preg as a preg thing! I wouldn't worry about the tests either, as long as AF hasn't arrived and you're still getting positives then you are pregnant!

Felt really nauseous this morning, starting coughing and gagging and had to lie down for a bit before coming to work. Think I'm 5 weeks today, will post this to check out my ticker

Posted By: RinTinTin
Date Posted: 01 December 2010 at 9:35am
KM - temps are a bit unreliable. I temped with my last pregnancy and they dropped dramatically even after I got my BFP and I have a gorgeous wee boy asleep in the next room. Temps aren't the be all and end all. Try not to worry yourself.

I am also a serial POASer. I did my last test this morning. They've been doubling in strength so I'm pretty confident. This mornings line was as dark as the control line.

I'm not using my previous MW cause she's too far away (over an hours drive). We moved since our last baby. If I could I'd use her again in a heartbeat.

Felt a little bit nauseous this morning but the only real sign I'm pregnant is the constant peeing and the lovely warm fuzzy feeling I get when I think about it. LOL. Oh and my excessive hunger!

LR - I am struggling with food cause I am still BFing DS, plus he's allergic to dairy so no dairy for me. Last pregnancy when I had MS all I could eat was fruit and iceblocks for 8 weeks so I am not sure at all how I am going to cope if the same happens this time. I don't want to wean DS off but I may have to if MS hits me hard again.

I rang that MW again, endured her long message and left her a message to call me back. I've still heard nothing so I am most unimpressed.
DP and I had a joke going last night about her message with the whole "I repeat" thing. We were sitting at the table trying to eat dinner falling about laughing going "You're 8cm dilated, I repeat, you're 8cm dilated" and "Push, I repeat, PUSH!"
Oh can you imagine it!!!

LOL LR!!!!!!!!!!!

That's exactly what my husband said - and exactly what my friend said....

You made me smile with your capitals

I am so highly strung out at the moment - just need to relax....

It's awful and cool about the morning sickness LR and Peaches......

Will just try (somehow) to not think about any of this till after the Doc visit...

RTT, that must be hard with no dairy. I think the trickiest thing for me is going to be Xmas day because we are going out for a buffet lunch. I'm guessing most things are going to have gluten or I am going to be worried about how hot everything is and whether I should eat it or not!

What LR said, I had a huge temp dip in both pregnancies, both about the same DPO too, in this ones case it was AFTER my initial (albeit very faint) bfp and right down to coverline so I got worried too, but as you can see by my ticker, I am very much pregnant still My homepage is still on the charting bfp list, and I'm pretty sure I set it up with both bfp charts on it so you can easily see how my temps went

I agree with LR, put the thermometer down!! Temps are going to go haywire as your hormones are all over the show now, so temping is highly INaccurate once pregnancy has been achieved.

Oh and it took a few days to get more than extremely faint lines, first few wouldnt show in a photo!

LR - in all honesty, you're more likely to get Listeria from an Air Conditioning unit that you are from food. I don't wanna sound blahzay about the whole thing but the whole "don't eat this, don't eat that" that they've started with pregnancy is so OTT.
My last pregnancy I avoided seafood and that was it. I asked for any deli meats to be freshly cut for me and sushi to be freshly made. I'm not sure about buffet food cause you'll wanna know how long it's been sitting there and stuff, but at the end of the day, you're no more likely to get food poisoning or Listeria when pregnant than you are when not pregnant. It's just that if you do get it (which is unlikely) the consequences can be worse.
Perhaps reconsider the buffet if you're worried. At least with an A Le Carte Menu you can pick and choose and you know exactly what you're getting and it's going to be freshly made.

I'm not sure what we're doing for Xmas. Should ask DP, not that he'll know either. ROFL. We've got DS's first birthday in a few weeks so we're more focused on that.

Thank you Babykatnz - you have made me feel so much better....

Thermometer is going down - much to DH's relief!!! The morning beeping is driving him crazy!!!

I have worried about Christmas Day lunch too LR.... although we aren't doing buffet, we are having a ham.... was wondering if I could eat it or not.... Other than that, all DH family are vegetarians - so we are having yet another vege Christmas - oh the joy

Christmas ham is for our January Christmas with my parents

Yeah I know what you mean RTT about being OTT but I plan on being careful in the first trimester and then easing off a bit after that. I'd hate to think that something I ate caused a problem.

KM, I'm pretty sure you can eat ham as long as it is hot but you're not meant to eat leftovers. The problem with the buffet is that we have already paid for it, we booked before I found out I was UTD I'll be telling the family before then anyway so I won't have to worry about looking odd when I'm only drinking water (at $75 per head)

Grrrr - we never cook ham - always have it cold straight off the bone....

Looks like a hamless christmas for me......

what the difference between implantation bleeding and 'breakthrough bleeding'??

Luckily I have had no more brown blood or anything today am still taking it easy but actually feeling not too bad, have only thrown up once this morning, been eating heaps and am about to have a nap. Looking forward to my first MW appointment on Monday. The next month of so will fly by because of the holidays woohooooo bring on the bump!

Implantation is when the egg is implanting into the uterus. Breakthrough bleeding is basically like your period "trying" to come cause your body is programmed for it to arrive and is still trying to register that you are pregnant.
Does that make sense?

just one wee listeria comment i know someone whose baby died from getting it.. and you are 20x more likely to get listeria or any other of those types of thing because you immune system is compromised..so while you can be too careful for me I just avoided everything i got told to for 9 months and that was that:)

anyway happy 8 months to you all this time next year you will have a 3month old:)

Thanks Elfsmum, yeah it's not worth the risk really is it? I would rather have a healthy baby than have sushi for lunch!

Peaches, I don't think I'll worry about maternity wear because there are so many outfits out there that work as maternity anyway - like today I have on a long tunic and leggings that I bought at Glassons and Ezibuy, to hide my bloated tummy. I also have a few summer dresses that do the same thing.

Have you seen the prices of Egg Maternity?? It's crazy expensive

KM, sounds good to me, sounds like it's probably implantation bleeding. Brown stringy stuff is what I have had both time.
If it's bright red blood then worry, but until then you're safe in my eyes! And feel free to say whatever you need to say. The whole point of these thread is to provide support in EVERY area of pregnancy.

I talked to DP about the MW issue and he has said we can go back to my old MW and I'll get to birth at River Ridge again. I'm really excited. It's an hours travel but it will be soooo worth it. I loved River Ridge and I loved my MW so I'm stoked.

KM - wow a bit to catch up on but sounds like you might be in the clear? Positive thinking - no point worrying about it anyway until you know. So just try and relax! *(easier said than done i know!)

So where is everyone around the country? We're down in Arrowtown - was up in Chch until around this time next year.

RTT - so wow you have an almost one year old! Cool - our age gaps will be similar for our little ones. I am also still BF'ing - and was planning on keeping going until she self weaned, but probably not past age two. but now I have number 2 coming before she's two - I don't know how it will all work - I know tandem feeding is possible - but is it really? How does it work! Does anyone know?

Thanks MM! Not too far behind you too

Hope you're feeling better later in the day Peaches.

Mimpoh, that's so cool that you live in Arrowtown, I love it there!

How are you going this morning KM?

AFM, I did my third and final HPT this morning (cos I have my MW appt this arvo) and the test line came up in 2 secs and is a lot darker than the control line now so fx everything is doing what it should be doing!

Had to lie for the first time last night when my SIL called and asked her usual "Any baby news?". I said no and quickly changed the subject. I really want to tell her because she has been so supportive while I was TTC but want to do it face-to-face. And then we really should tell our parents first I suppose! Then I'm sure my work is going to start getting suspicious very soon because we often have a glass of wine at 5 o'clock and I've been turning it down (obviously!). If someone asks me outright I think I will turn bright red and smile and give the game away!

How's everyone feeling? We must be getting some more August mums soon

mimpoh - It is quite common for babies to self wean when you're about 5 months preggy cause the taste of your milk changes due to hormones and colostrum coming in. If my boy keeps feeding through I will be happy but I do know it will be hard work. I had planned to wean him around 18 months old though using the don't offer, don't refuse method, but we will see how I feel. Tandem feeding is very possible, I've seen it before and usually the toddler is only feeding once or twice a day anyway so it's not too much extra work. Our bodies are amazing things too and will compensate in any way they need to adjust to our babies needs.
I have heard that usually if you do feed them both at the same time (which is apparently great for bonding) the toddler lays on the bottom and sort of cradles the baby on top of him/her. So the 2 children cross over each other over your body.
Or your feed the toddler in a normal hold and feed the baby in football hold so their feet are pointing the same way. I am sure each mother finds what works for her and goes with it though

I am feeling a bit off. I have been getting hungry in the middle of the night and if I don't get up and eat I feel sick and then can't sleep. So at 4am I was chowing down a muesli bar

I want to keep this one as secret as I can for as long as I can. Will be hard I think but I just want to enjoy this pregnancy without anyone else trying to claim it as their own. First time mums - you'll understand what I mean soon enough.

I hope we get some more August mums soon.

Morning August mummies to be....

I'm still spotting.... well it's more like a brown tinge to the loo paper when I go.... nothing on undies.... trying to not be too concerned about it.....

Couldnt' help myself and did another test last night with my last IC - the line came up stronger than it ever has - probably mid between very faint and control.

Did test this morning with FR and FMU and still faint - but a tiny bit darker than yesterday....

So I'm just going with the flow until I see Dr tonight....

Will ask for progesterone test and also a series of HCG tests.... also am going to pharmacy today and try and get some natural progesterone...

RTT - glad you are going back to the old MW who you seem to love - I'm sure that will make all the difference, being with someone you know and trust

Mimpoh - Lower Hutt for me, near Wellington

Peaches - hopefully you are feeling better soon... I am feeling okay in that regard.... hopefully that continues.... but doubt it..... Maybe you can try sea bands - apparently they help with morning sickness - like accupressure.... worth a shot, you get them from the chemist.... otherwise stay away from the friend eggs and get DH to bring you a cup of sweet tea and some crackers into you before you get up....

LR - yay for the super strong lines... I can only hope.... but I think you are a week ahead of me so there's still time....

Just to say how cool it is to see some of the CPP and Charting Girls in here as mums to be!! So exciting and I have to say it's still a bit surreal for me even tho I'm over halfway now. I still get a buzz from waking up thinking I was having a lovely dream about being UTD, to find it's real!

I'm wearing an Egg top right now and have to say they are the best quality and most comfy maternity clothes, and I love that they are made in NZ. I only got some coz they were on sale at drastically reduced prices! Otherwise just have to look wistfully in the window on my way past. But did splash out on a pair of Egg maternity jeans and have lived in them ever since. Summery stuff you can find at Glassons and K Mart and all the usual cheap and cheerful places, no need to go overboard on stuff you won't wear for long.

I had brown stringy stuff in the first month too KM so it might be quite common? FX all is fine and your doc can confirm it

And I can recommend ginger for nausea, I lived on ginger and lemon tea for months. Also keep eating coz if you let yourself get hungry it gets worse!

*lurker out* (til next time )
