What cycle do you use to wash your cloth nappies in your frontloader. Mine goes up to 90 degrees but I think I read somewhere not to wash on 60 degrees or higher. ------------- Here we go again, another baby on it's way!

It depends what kind of nappy they are.
If they have PUL for waterproofing I wouldn't regularly wash on 60 degrees due to it possibly deteriorating. I wash mine on 40 degrees in the front loader and never had a problem. When I strip them with dishwash liquid I wash on 60 degrees a few times. |

Susyl the nappies like the honeychilds are PUL, the nappies like Itti's are minky :)
Stripping is needed from time to time when they get smelly or a build of washing powder etc and start leaking. You wont need to worry about that with the hire kit because weegee or becks will sort it I would imagine. I was mine on 40 delicate :) I always do a rinse cycle before and after the wash cycle too and maybe once every 2-3 weeks a 60 cotton wash. -------------

Sorry Susyl!!! I totally didn't mean to confuse you even more....
Definitely don't worry about stripping. Melnel is right that honeychilds have PUL but so do Itti Bittis. In fact most nappies (apart from some styles) have PUL in them, either visibly or hidden because they all need to be waterproof in the end. A few 60 degree washes won't do them any harm at all, especially if they might get a bit smelly or stained but constant 'hot' washes might put a strain on said PUL and shorten the life of the nappies. Sorry to threadjack., but you know front loader powder, I have a top loader and bought front loader powder by mistake, I've just been 1.5 the scops and using it anyway.

40 degree cotton wash here for our nappies in the front loader. I don't do a rinse cycle and use half usual amount of liquid, with vinegar in the rinse drawer.
I've never done a strip wash or hotter washes - the sun seems to deal with everything at the moment. Sometimes I'll do an extra rinse at the end if I don't think all the detergent's rinsed out properly (depends on the size of the load and if I've been a little heavy handed!) |

40 degree colours wash with extra rinse. If really horrid poos have occured then I will do them on 60 but that's not often (we can adjust temp up and down on our machine).
If I just have a couple of nappies with wees on then I do them on a quick wash. BB if you use ecostore then you use half a scoop for a front loader and because with nappies you only need half the amount then you only need a quarter scoop for nappies. I'm not sure about other washing powders, before using ecostore we use to buy persil front loader, the top loader powder foams up too much in front loaders. Unless it's like ecostore and designed to be used in both with different quantities in which case it should say on the packet. -------------

Ecostore do a wool wash liquid. Their front loader powder appears to be the same as the other one except comes with a small scoop and I can buy the other one in 4.5kg tubs so it works out cheaper as I've only seen the front loader one in 1kg boxes. -------------

I have itti's... so just trying to figure out what is best to wash them at. We have a Bosch frontloader... so around 40 degrees is good - if there is a builup then 60degrees... Does spin cycle matter? Ours goes up to 1200! -------------

I would not wash your nappies on a hot wash all the time as the PUL breaks down way faster as does the elastic. The best washing powder that I have found is Rocking Green. It is specially made for nappies and Itti Bitti recommend it as the one to use on theirs.
I do all of mine on a cold wash and just have it on the normal spin setting, and just up the rinse by one (as i can have anywhere from 2-5 rinses). I wouldnt think the spin would affect the nappies as you would have a full load in the machine so its not like its just one of two getting the full brunt of the spin. -------------

Well i'm just working on my stash, so there's not heaps in there at the moment :) but chucking in with other things...
okay will experiment around. need to get some rocking green too! as long as it's not too hot it should be okay. I've been giving them an extra rinse at the end to get any extra product off them too? -------------
