Which are best?

The AIO or AI2?

ETA, if I was to get the AI2, can it be used with other inserts? or strictly grovia ones?

I like the SIO's which I guess are the AI2's. That way I can re-use the shell if I want to if it's just a wee. I'm sure you could lay other inserts in the shell if you wanted to but since the proper ones snap in I don't think other brands would have the snaps in exactly the same place. But I haven't tried the AIO's so I can't comment on them.

Oooh! Thanks for this thread - those that are using them, how absorbent are they? Just being cotton rather than bamboo?

I've got 3 of the new Grovia prints, and I'm loving them! You can definitely use the shells as covers, say over a fitted nappy or with a prefold or lay-in type insert. The soaker pads are very absorbent, I find them similar in absorbency to all 3 inserts used in an Itti Tutto.

I find them really absorbent as well- never had a leak from them.

Only downside is that they do take a while to dry.

Yep, I agree. They're fabulously absorbent but they take ages to dry.

Are they very trim? Like in comparison to an itti? I really like the planes print.

I find them really trim as well - very similar to a large Itti D'Lish or Tutto (on the 2 largest settings anyway).
I've got the Planes, Owls and Nature prints now - all are super cute!

So with the GroVia's you get the set which consists of the shell and a soaker pad? And you just snap that in and replace with a new one when wet? They are $40 at cheekycherubs Mealz, but that's not on sale. Given I have a girl, I like the mod flowers one

edited to add: what are they like around the legs? My daughter has huge thighs with a smaller tummy- at 5 months she is in large itti's.

Rachel, I'm pretty sure they're around for good, but you could always email one of the nappy ladies and ask.
Mealz, are you doing the Cloth Nappy Hunt? If so, you can use the discount code they give you to get 20% off - Cheeky Cherubs are a sponsor, so you can use the discount there for the month of March. Even if you're not doing the Hunt, you could register just to get the code.
LostAmber, I find they're really good around the legs. DS has fairly skinny thighs (chunkier than they used to be, though!), but the elastic is fairly stretchy, and I'm sure they would fit chunky thighs well.
With the all-in-twos, you now have to buy the shell and soaker pads separately. The soaker pads come in sets of 2, so if buy 1 shell, you'll have a spare soaker pad (which would be handy for winter, cos they take a while to dry!). Or you could buy 2 shells - Nature would be nice on a girl!

And Mod Flower would look great on a girl - if I have a girl next time, I'll be getting it to add to the collection!

Thanks for that whitewave! I did sign up for the nappy hunt and forgot all about the discount code!

My planes one just arrived and I LOVE it! Can't wait to get it washed and dried...DS has tried it on the though and the fit is great with all the snaps.
Did people really wash and dry it 5-6 times before using??

I'm definitely going to get another (haven't even trialled the absorbency yet!) still undecided between another planes or the owl print!

Just used my new Grovia for the first time and it was so good! I took it off after 3.5hrs, no leaks, all totally contained within the soaker. Definitely getting some more soaker sets! Love the fit too.

How many times did you wash it first? I ended up washing and drying it twice before I used it (properly, not the trial run) and it was really good. I think you're 'supposed' to wash and dry 5-6 times to get the full absorbency.
I've found the elastic is really stretchy on them so I tend to do them up a bit tighter than I would do up an itti, just cos they have more give.
DP text me when I was at the hairdresser - he was changing DS' nappy and had to tell me how much he liked the owl one!

I washed and dried it only the once first. I did it up tight around her tummy because it was stretchier (no poppers free- waist fabric meetiing) and had it let out vertically to the middle setting. I've just put her in it again with the same middle and changed the vertical setting to the smallest.

I do the leg snaps up quite tight - I think it's about the 3rd or 4th snap in, then I do the waist ones - they don't cross over, they touch, but because the leg snaps are tighter it's not flat across the front - does that make sense? The elastic has heaps more give in it so if it's not tight enough and she's moving her legs a lot I imagine it could easily leak... Try again! You'll get there! Could also just be the absorbency thing too.

Oh, and I use it on the infant rise setting, not the newborn one.

Hmm, maybe just need another wash or two. Campbell's also on the snaps meeting waist setting (he's got a skinny waist!), but on the highest rise setting (no snaps down). I agree, the elastic does have a lot of stretch! Is Olivia a heavy wetter? Possible she needs a booster as well?

Posted By: lostAmber
Date Posted: 23 March 2011 at 10:44am
I didn't think she was a heavy wetter, but perhaps she is now that she is taking in more water as well as her bottle?

I will keep trying, I want these to work! I love them in all other aspects, the trimness, the fact that you can put the biodegradable compostable disposable part in them, the prints etc etc etc.

I'm gonna get the three grovias I want next week YAY! I'm getting paid for some minky nappies I'm making for someone so DH can't argue about what I spend my own money on (well, he could argue and probably will lol, but hey).

Hope you manage to sort out the absorbancy soon lostAmber! Lucky there's still a while before my boy is due so I can throw the nappies in the wash with DD's clothes every time I do a wash to make them super absorbant. (Are you meant to do that with ittis too? Maybe I should be washing the tuttos heaps before bubs is born too...)

Ooh, yay for nappy money, Rachel! You should definitely spend nappy money on nappies, makes sense really!
I think organic cotton needs to be pre-washed more than bamboo to get up to full absorbency. But no harm in pre-washing the Tutto inserts 1 or 2 more times.
