I am TOTALLY addicted to cloth nappies! So pleased I'm back working part time now as I was putting a serious dent in my savings... Future babies is my go to excuse when DP asks about why I've bought more nappies! I actually have over 10 that haven't even been worn yet - they are washed and ready to go though!
Aethalia - I reckon you could charge for materials, postage and time... I think you'd get quite a fair bit of interest from here and it could be a nice little earner for you...could fund your cloth nappy obsession!!
I don't have any that need doing but I'd definitely get in touch with you if I did.
Can I give you a tip - I read it on the itti bitti Aust FB page...someone else who is redoing elastic suggested using 10mm elastic instead of the same as what is in there originally...after a bit of trial and error they reckoned that this elastic was perfect.

I like 10mm elastic in nappies too, that's what I use in the nappies I make. Hehe I know what you mean Aethalia, I don't like charging people either. When people ask me to make them nappies and ask how much, I just tell them how much it costs for the materials. My step-mum's nephew just asked me to make them 6 nappies (already made 10 for them last year that my dad and stepmum paid me HEAPS for!!) so I told him it would be $80 for all the materials (using minky of course hehe) but that I could get 8 nappies out of that. He asked my least favourite question: "and how much do you charge for your time?" LOL. I said I don't because I enjoy making them, and he said that's slave labour and that they would pay me $180 whether I liked it or not crazy! Would much rather some chocolate if they felt they had to give me something
Will put up pics of my nappy stash for my baby boy, if everyone else promises to put up pics of all their nappies so I don't feel like such a loser

Hehe Aethalia, sewing nappies is pretty much sewing in a straight line - I just get to a corner and turn it round so it's straight again they are actually really easy once you get the hang of it!
Whitewave, will send you all my newborn nappies once my bub grows out of them if you don't mind 2nd hand? Then you can use them on your December baby *touch wood* so I don't jinx it for you!
Lost Amber, I tried making bibs but OMG the bias binding is a mission and a half and they turned out all wonky lol. Those WAHM ones Mealz bought sound nice!

I need the waterproof backing that the sillybillyz and mum2mum's have but I don't like the poppers at the back of her neck, or the elastic at the front- scared it will be too tight for her. I hate valcro with a passion (it scratches her!) and while I like the fit of the pumpkin patch ones (even though the popper is at the back) it contains nothing and wets through to her clothes.
What's the link you have Mealz? I wont buy until they have been performance tested first lol.

Whitewave- Nar its PITA, its old, and the wire is rusty and it creaks in the breeze. It is massive, but it is unbalanced so as you put stuff on you have to walk around it, cant stand in one spot.

We had about ten ittis in the small size -- miss 6months only JUST fits them now so i skipping med and going stright into larges .. until now I have just used them part time somedays all day some days not at all ........ but will be going into them fulltime (apart from nights) how many will I 'need' to allow for washing/ drying etc I'm guessing with winter its not going to be easy ... hmmm I was thinking maybe 15ish? We don't have a dryer?
|
Posted By: Nothing
Date Posted: 17 March 2011 at 1:54pm
Blossombaby- my DD was in mediums from 6 months and I thought she was going to grow out of them, but she slimmed down quite a bit and still fits them. Im no use as to how many you need as I have over 50 nappies of various types. I would say 20 is good. We have an old side of a cot hanging up above our fire that I put DD's nappies on- they dry mega quick so no need to worry about using a dryer.

Though i could be tempted to buy more but i don't like changes trying a tutto .. they look rather complex with all the domes. I like easy to put on, easy to wash and cute on her tosh!

Oh Rachel, would love to use your newborn stash, if you're sure you want to get rid of it. Of course, have to conceive a baby to put in them first!
Aethalia, great idea about using the cot side as an airer! We bought one of those colonial-style airers a couple of months ago, in anticipation of a cold, wet winter to come. It works great, but cost a fair bit! Never thought of using an old side of a cot!

Yeah its great, I picked one up from the recycle centre for $1. Just attatched some rope to it and a couple of pulleys and it works great! Just got to make sure you dont let the nappies get overdry as they get a hard and crunchy feeling. Im selling off some of my pockets as I dont use them (got lots of Itti's), so my numbers will go down.... for a while. There is a really good deal on trade me for small Itti's at the moment if anyone wants some.

No worries at all Jen, we aren't having any more babies so would be good if they didn't go to waste
Wow 50 nappies! I wish I had 50 nappies lol.
Welcome blossombaby hmm I only had one itti (AIO) and found it took about 3 days to dry on the clothes horse over winter have since given it away coz it was very girly and we are having a boy this time. Tuttos all the way!! they're really not that hard, but then I'm used to pockets and don't mind stuffing those either
I think this winter I will put bub's nappies on the clotheshorse over night and put the dehumidifier on, see if that helps drying time.

Ooooh hi ladies! *waves enthusiastically*
My names Jade and Im a nappyholic
DD is just over a month old (1st baby) and is the proud owner of a rather large stash of fluff bums (as they are reffered to in our house) Last count was 54 hehe
We are an Itti loving house hold hehe but also have been wearing In a Pear Tree's and Baby Boutique Pockets (boosted with hemp of course )
Im not allowed to buy anymore nappies at the moment after going crazy while pregnant, but once Tayla has grown out of her Small and Med Itti SIO's Im already planning on stocking up on the Pop in Dream Dri's and Itti Tuttos. She has one of each and even as a newborn they fit pretty well! not even as bulky as I expected.
Looking forward to going to the sale mentioned above on Thursday, might even have to buy a few... Just dont tell DF lol

Hee hee, glad you liked the chocolate Aethalia! When I read your first post, I thought wow that's restrained, only eating one line, then read the next post and had a laugh! Chocolate is meant to be eaten in large doses, I reckon! That's what I tell myself...
You guys are making me jealous, buying more gorgeous nappies! I'm not allowed to buy more til I get pregnant again. Although, I'm thinking I need to get some Grovia boosters and try out a Magic Stick... they're not strictly nappies, are they?

Okay, question. I am struggling to get rid of the nappy rash/chaffing in the fold of Olivia's leg. I have been dosing it with sudacream but using disposables when I do this, then it looks as though it's better so I go back to cloth and curash and then it rubs again, it's so frustrating! I just want to use my cloth every day. Does anyone have any suggestions?

LA - Have you tried anything other then sudocrem? What about Lucas Pawpaw ointment? It works wonders for everything! The other option is a Grovia Magic Stick which is apparently great for nappy rash and safe for cloth nappies. http://www.chic-cheeks.co.nz/products.php?79&cPath=41&sid=22a483100b6d43f636c48aa0df1d79b9 - Chic-cheeks sell it.

Can you use the pawpaw with cloth? The annoying thing is that it's right where the edge of the nappy sits and rubs, it's not like its on the inside.

Nup, you'd need to use a liner - although if you're putting it on her creases and not near the inner part of the nappy then surely if you did get some cream on there it's not going to affect the absorbency? I don't really know...I always use liners.

If you get some cream on the nappy just make sure you rinse it before the wash and once the rash is cleared so a strip wash on all your nappies.

Ooh a sale, lucky I missed that lol. I really don't need any more nappies, apart from the three Grovias I'm buying when I get paid for the nappies I'm making for someone

Um not much.... Just two wetbags (I dont have any so totally worth it), one medium SIO beechworth (love the print), and 3x pop in originals with the night booster- I only have one at the moment and with winter coming they dont dry very fast.
I also won a free Tutto from E-Weez, they ran a comp where you just had to write a comment then they would use the random generator to pick the winner- there was only 4 entries!!!!!
Oh and my cousin got me a retro bubble large as a present cause I have lent her heaps of my nappies and stuff and given lots of great advice (her words!)

So jealous of your new purchases ladies!
Im putting 6x of my small Itti SIO's on TM 2day along with 6x Large Snazzipants AIO's, the AIO's are brand new!
Funny thing was the Snazzipants were Jayjays (Maia's son) from shortland st lol. They were brought as props for him but obviously never got used as more than props!
My friend got given them and sold them to me, i prefer Ittis so im gunna sell them so I can buy Tuttos lol

I got a couple things at the chic cheeks sale too. A wetbag and two nappies.
And I got an Ecobubs off tradme. I want a Red/Choc one so I hope they have them.
I'm getting so bad at impulse buying from FB sales. It's very naughty. It's so easy to say SOLD when you don't have to pay right then like when you're in a store. Bad bad bad. I may need to UNlike all nappy sellers lol

I saw that chic-cheeks sale but I was away and checking FB from my mobile phone...it was too slow to actually get anything! And almost painful to watch everyone!! I think, from the comments, that there's more to come tomorrow?? I'm hoping some Grovias/inserts come up! I don't really 'need' more nappies, but I could do with some inserts!

Tomorrow, you say Mealz? Will have to have a look then - I'm "needing" some Grovia boosters and a Magic Stick!
Finally got pics of my nappy stash uploaded - first one is the main stash (Ittis, Grovia and Pop-Ins (with a Weehuggers cover for the Bitti Boo), second one is the rest(mostly outgrown mediums).

I counted the other day and I have a total of 31 nappies!! DS will outgrow the medium ittis soon so they'll be going into storage for the next baby or if he thins out a wee bit when he starts moving...think there are about 10-12 mediums. If the next one is a girl I'm going to have another reason to buy more - got to have girl colours!!
I really need to get a picture!
Am I the only one who finds Pop-ins really fiddly to put on?? I bought one and on sold it after we had a couple of leaks - I'm now thinking it might've been compression wicking. Anyway, I just found it really hard to get on a wriggly baby...think it was the flap at the front. Might be easier once DS was on the largest setting maybe?

If you have a girl and I have a boy next Mealz we can just swap
Can I just say that i'm so freaking over disposables and "nappy rash". I'm going to take Liv back to the GP on Wed if it still hasn't cleared up.

If you wait till tonight or tomorrow you should be able to get some from Chic Cheeks through a quickfire type FB sale...Nicky is going through her stock today and will have some items on sale. Otherwise, as whitewave said you can register for the cloth nappy hunt and get 12% off anything at cheeky cherubs...they have Grovias.
I want some Grovia inserts/boosters and a magic stick!

Have you tried to layer the creams, using the barrier/zinc/sudocrem last?
I used disposables while we were away this weekend and I so hate them! Normally I would just take cloth, but were away for 3 nights. Why anyone would prefer to use them?? Crinkly paper pants full of chemicals! I much prefer my cloth bot...and thankfully, so does DP!

Ooh I forgot about the cloth nappy hunt hehe, will go register for it now! And will look out on chic cheeks too, cheers
I hate disposables too! We used them on DD when we went away for a week last year, yuck yuck yuck! (Still took our pop-in night nappies away with us though hehe)
Oh about the pop-ins, we still use them at night with Chelsea (although she's been dry the last two nights so think she's working on night-toilet-training too! Has been day-trained since Christmas) and you do need to make sure the flap is folded over the top of the inserts so no wees leaks out. We only get leaks when DH puts them on as he hasn't quite got the hang of it yet, lol, even though I must have said a million times "FOLD THE FLAP DOWN!!!!!!!!!!"

Mealz, yep I tried the layering thing after you were here last. It clears up and then I go back to cloth and then it comes back again, it's driving me crazy. She has been in disposables only for the best part of a week or more now but the rash is still there. I have two creams- Micreme H which i'm not using as it has a hydrocortisone in it, and Miconazole but that appears to be doing nothing. Both are anti fungal creams. Maybe I should switch to the hydrocortisol and see if that clears it up for good?

I currently have 27 nappies not including seperate boosters that I can interchange and keep outer for one more round. DH is weekly giving me finance talks due to my spending so am keeping it quiet for a while- until Liv is out of her med. ittis anyway lol. The joys of building your first home NOT!

Is it definitely the same rash that's coming back? Have you washed all your nappies with a Canesten rinse? If she's had thrush you'll need to do that...they could just be reinfecting her maybe?

The flap on the Pop-Ins ends up sticking out too, if DH does it!
Hope the rash clears up soon, lostAmber. Hate trying to deal with nasty rashes, and using sposies all the time.

Ah I didn't think of that Mealz.
I used the hydrocortisone cream last night and looks 100x better this morning. I think I will just go with that for the week and see how things are come Fri. If still present we will go back to the GP.

I should join here, I have 30 nappies I no longer use (I don't like the fit on our mobile baby) those are TM brand OSFM and are fine for non-mobile babies, and then about 15 tuttos with 6 spare inserts for them. I had 6 or 7 medium ittis(all SIOS) but shes almost outgrown them so sold them (bar the pink one I can't get rid of :( And I have 2 large ittis 1 SIO and 1 AIO, I much prefer the SIO and therefore the tuttos are great for me, and more absorbant too!
Oh and 2 pop in dream dris, with 2 extra inserts and 4 night boosters for my night nappies. LOVE em :D and I cheat and stuff the TM pockets with the extra 2 inserts so the outers don't have to be washed as often.
ETA: we have one odd one out baby first nappy too lol and a medium monkey doodlez I'm trying to give away as it doesn't even hold 1 of DDs wees...its an AIO and its hopeless.

Oh and Mealz we just went to the largest fitting real fast as DD has really chubby thighs and then it was way less fiddly and seemed less bulky too :D

rachelsea - I was there too! Got some soaker inserts for my Grovias...think I might pop back at 8pm as well and see if there is anything else I like! I'm tempted by the swimming nappy, even though I already have one!
whitewave - there were boosters in the sale, $14 for a pack of 2 I think...not sure they went either, so have a look at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/chiccheeks - chic cheeks on FB .
There's another sale tonight at 8pm!

Thanks Mealz, I missed most of the 1pm sale because I didn't realise it was happening. I noticed, though, the savings would be about the same as using the cloth nappy hunt discount at Cheeky Cherubs, and I've decided to get a Itti Limited Ed. wetbag as well. So I'm going to order tomorrow, when DH gets paid! I don't think he's too keen on me getting around the "no new nappies" thing, but I do need the Magic Stick and boosters, honest!
Hee hee, he saw me reading this thread last night, and saw evidence that there are others with an addiction like me, rather than me just telling him!
