Hiya,
Thought I'd start this thread as I couldn't really find one for IUI. My signature explains my emotional journey for baby No 1 who is now 16 months old (we are incredibly lucky to have her) and we have been TTC baby No 2 for 13 months now and about to do our first round of IUI tomorrow. Had a scan today showing a 23x25 follicle, got the trigger injection and head in tomorrow morning for IUI! Hey did you bleed after your IUI's? I am about to start my first round of IUI, DH has got to do a sperm assesment for antibodies first, and then it's all go! I am meant to be ringing them on CD1 of my next cycle! DH is booked in for his assesment this thursday to see whats going on with him!
I am on CD19 today - so if i'm not BFP this cycle i guess it will be about thursday or friday next week when things get started! - then i guess another 14 days until ov again! I have never bled/spotted after IUI but they have never had any problem getting it in with me, if your worried give the clinic a call. I dont have any signs of pregnancy this month and with getting the tummy bug last week Im not holiding out alot of hope for this month, but you never know so I will go and do the test tomorrow anyway. Its getting harder and harder every month. We were so lucky with DS that it happened first time, then with trying for #2 it happened 2nd time(mc) so I am expecting it to work every month and its starting to do my head in! I had 2 unsuccessful IUI's in '08, and am back on the IUI train this year as IVF/ICSI didn't work for us last year. Had my IUI treatment in April but BFN (I swear they triggered me too early!) and will have IUI again in 2 weeks.
My mum said to me yesterday at lunch "maybe we can celebrate your motherhood next year" and I hope so! I am feeling positive on my TTC journey at the moment, after being so down on it last year. Let's hope May is kind to us all ------------- http://lbdf.lilypie.com/LlYMp12.png?hAvzfE19 |

Poo, rang the clinic with Day 1 and the Dr has said I need to see him after round 4 for a review before I can go again. If you aren't then day 9 shouldn't be too late. unless he wants to put you on some meds? will be interesting to see what they say eh! I just got dh's semen results back, so it looks like we are going to straight to IVF. The mobilty wasnt great and he has antibodies. Hi emmap, sorry to hear your news but on a brighter note ivf does have a higher success rate than iui! plus you should be funded for ivf since you have an infertility reason rather than unexplained.
luckyred, we were told that IUI only has a 15% success rate for us (not sure if its age related or anything tho?)But we managed to beat those odds once so im staying positive about doing it again! you would think that it would be higher eh as you are putting everything together - all it has to do is mix! lol. If you don't mind me asking luckyred do you have an infertility reason or do you fall under unexplained like us? if you are having to pay privately like us it might be worth doing a few IUI before taking the huge financial step to ivf? infertility sure isn't cheap! We fall under unexplained but my gynae has termed it sub-fertility, in that I can get pregnant but not quickly or easily if you know what I mean? My gynae put me on clomid just 6 months after we started TTC even though I ovulate on my own. I think because of my age (34) and history of endo he thought it would be best to pull out the big guns right off the bat.
I have another appt with him next week so I'll ask him what he reckons. I think it's around $1000 for IUI isn't it? Might be worth doing a couple as you say, we would prefer not to fork out the dollars for IVF if we can help it! I also think it's probably just a case of being patient and it will happen, and I would be if I 100% knew it WAS going to happen! |

Good idea to pull out the big guns early I reakon, we started trying when I was 34, I'm now 38 and trying to hopefully get the 2nd baby if we are that lucky before my ticking time bomb stops! Gosh it would be far easier if someone could just give us a darned crystal ball eh, it would relieve the stress merry go round! Hi everyone, Hope your week was a good one.
Im not on any meds, but I think that is the next step, bit scared about it to be honest, I responded really well with IVF (18eggs) and the thought of twins scares the sh*t out of me. I got preg first DI with DS, 2nd DI next time (mc) and chemical preg round 3 this time, so id like to stick my head in the sand and think that it bound to happen soon. Where is everyone else up to? day 10 BT on Thursday for me, We were ment to see the Dr on wed for a review but he has had to change it to next week,but they are letting us do DI this month(yay) I know what he is going to say, the reasion Im not preg is cause Im overweight and I need to pop pills. Anyone else struggling with weight too? This emotional rollercoaster really isnt good for trying to get in the right head space to lose weight. Feeling really low about the whole thing today, I was ment to be having a baby this weekend (mc one) not having to go for blood tests and still trying to get preg. DI worked first time for me with DS too, keep positive ladies! I did bloods again today, and tomorrow too, should be doing DI some day between now and monday, its either been day 12 or 14 for the last few attempts. God By the time Im at day 13 like you are I am usually going NUTS! It is so hard, and gets harder every month. Im keeping everything crossed for you. we might be 2 weeks apart, you never know! Im wondering how much longer we keep doing this, I think we only have about 10 more samples in the freezer so that might have to be the decider.
AFM, Had another BT today, and just got the call to have another one tomorrow, thank god DF has a company car, with the price of petrol at mo i cant afford to go back and forward from the shore to Ellerslie every day. Will you do DI if the next test is positive? or trigger then DI? yeah there is alot of running around eh luckily in chch there isn't too far to go but akl would be quite a hike. good luck for your test tomorrow! would be awesome if we were 2 weeks apart with BFP's!! I'm still in the mindset I'm not tho, no more symptoms today really no AF either but I'm on the dreaded undie check all the time now!
This whole process make u feel kind of neurotic! ie: don't want to talk about it with too many people for fear of jinxing things, thinking you could be preg but not wanting to think it for fear of the sadness when it turns out you imagined all the symptoms, ahhhhh the list could go on and on!! Nothing is far away in chch, Im a chch gal, family are still down there, but i hear the roads are making travel a bit slower at the mo.
My cycle is all natural so another blood test tomorrow and as soon as they see the surge I get called in for my turkey impersonation. aww big hugs to you caronz Yip life can certainly suck at times! I hope you are going to do something special tomorrow to help you through the day. Go have a pamper session or something after your test?
Yeah chch used to be easy to get around pre earthquake, it has gotten better lately and they have done an amazing job on the roads really but still takes alot longer than before. it was taking me 1 hr 20 mins to get from brighton to merivale at one stage! Bet you were pleased you aren't in chch at the moment tho, it has been a pretty stressful time! if we only knew it was all over it would make alot of ppl feel better! we personally are waiting to find out if our house has to come down which they are pretty sure it will. hubby lost his job, but got another luckily! my mum lost her job. and i knew 3 ppl that died :( hence its time for some good luck i reakon! ------------- TTC 19 mths-PCOS Clom,Lap & HSG Nov 08 IUI feb 09 BFN IUI Mar 09 BFP!! AFM, having a very emotional day, feel like i just want to hide away and cry all day :( no AF yet but can't help feeling that it will come and the bloods tomorrow (if it isn't here by then) will be a bfn. Ill join you on the emotional day jmac, i have been trying to put on a brave face but feel as if i am dying inside.
BT was OK, got the call to go in at 10am tomorrow, spent the morning at the park enjoying the sunshine and DF even agreed to go to the Mall for lunch so wee man didnt fall asleep in the car with no lunch, only problem is he is now kicking up a storm in his bed and not sleeping, Grrr, wish I let him fall asleep in the car! Well I started spotting slightly tonight so chances r its another bfn for us. I'll c if flow starts properly by morn and may stil do bloods if not as I still bled for weeks when preggy with dd so best to be sure. I'm not thinking I will be tho so a bit sad

Eek just had a good aftershock, made me race out of the kitchen! Was only short luckily and a 3.5 but close. Poor bub got a fright as had just put her down to bed. Yeah we r on the east side. This one was close out to sea by rawhiti domain. Normally I don't feel them unless over 4 or unless they close and shallow. Aha so this is where all the IUI girls are hanging out! Thought I'd join in. As most of you know from the CPP thread, I did IUI last month (bfn) and having a break this month. Will do IUI again next month and for the consecutive 2 months before moving to IVF.

oh KOS i saw on the CPP thread that you had one large follie this month, i was like that with this IUI too, it was quite early D11 and 25mm already so they triggered me and did the iui the next day. im usually an ov d16-18 girl and they have never been that big plus i used to have 2-3 not just 1. DI done, and OUCH, TIM, but she couldnt find my cervix and poked and prodded around for ages before going and getting another nurse. Great fun! now I feel all tender and sore. Fingers crossed for this round! KOS, it wouldnt hurt to have a quick BD just incase the FS is right, you never know. OUCH!! i had a similar thing with mine once, and even this time the doc was training the nurse so they had 3 attempts, needless to say i bled for a day and was quite tender. so couldnt BD that day if we wanted too! Yay its all done tho - woo hoo, now the stupid 2ww! Caro, I've just seen your post about painful IUI. Ouch alright! I don't suppose you had the same nurse as last month? I found her quite rough and I bled afterwards but it doesn't sound anything like what you had to go through yesterday. Hope you're mending okay.

KOS, i have always had the same 2 nurses but yesterday was a new one that I hadnt met before, fingers crossed I dont get her again, I had a wee bit of spotting yesterday but nothing major. Fingers crossed its the last time. We are off to see the FS this afternoon, i know what he is going to say so it gets me down just thinking about it but Oh well, it has to be done.

Have picked myself up again today, am waiting on the call from repromed to see if we can increase my meds this month and get more follies so fingers crossed. Still no AF yet tho so i dont know what its doing, it cant be far away. Going to get on the diet bandwagon today and see if i can shed some much needed weight in hope that it may help things? and also going to cut down on my coffee - i only have 1 a day, but have a bit of diet coke each day so will try cut that down. caronz, is your apt to see what your next step would be if a BFN? can you go on to ivf? i have a friend of a friend who had a successful 5th IUI so don't give up hope!! Ill have everything crossed for you hun. KOS - lol, lucky DH ! Go you good thing! what ov monitor do you use? Hi Jmac, I bought an ov monitor online from England. You can't get them here. It's the Clearblue brand and they're quite expensive. It tracks lh and estrogen where as the internet cheapies just track lh. I gave it a whirl last month when we had IUI to see if it was accurate as the daily blood tests and bingo it was right on the button So this month we thought we'd just use the ov monitor rather than spend heaps of $ on IUI. A couple of friends have used the same monitor and one had unexplained infertility and got utd the first time she used it. So fingers crossed it works for us too!
I bought it from this website on a Sunday night. It turned up from England on the Thursday!!!! Great service! http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/clearblue-fertility-monitor-excludes-test-strips_1_3505.html You just poas and insert it into the monitor. 5 mins later it gives you a little bar graph telling you where you are at in your cycle and tells you the best day to BD. I never got a text an instead a phone call from a different person and they also changed my scan time. Maybe they were 'fill-ins' while the usual 2 nurses were away. oh thanks KOS, it sounds like a similar one a friend of mine has, she got it overseas aswell and has 2 children now ( she didnt have any troubles with conceiving tho! super fertile i think! lucky her).
i might go have a look at it, my concern for us in particular is that im not sure the little blighters are actually making it there??? i wish you could have a little screen and see if they are going round in circles? backwards? wrong tube? etc haha

Jmac, you buy the test strips overseas. I bought an extra 2 boxes when I bought the monitor.
I laughed when I read your comment about a little screen to see where they were going. I said the exact same thing to my Mum a couple of days ago. Have you had an hsg to see if your tubes are blocked? I'm in a similar boat to you. DS 22months and conceived after 5 cycles. This time, were up to 16 cycles! You would think if I'm capable of conceiving DS, then I could again! I have unexplained infertility and was wondering if the little swimmers were not getting to the egg too, or perhaps the little fingers at the end of the fallopian tube aren't picking up the egg. But there is no way of telling unless I have a lap and I figure if I have a lap, what's that going to prove? I still have to do IVF either way if the next 3 IUI's don't work. I'd quite like a little window in the side of my tummy when preggars too so you can see the bean growing (without all the mess of course) hehe ------------- http://www.TickerFactory.com/">

kos, our stories are quite similar, we ttc dd for about 2 years, i was on clomid for a year. we did have to do an hsg but typically they couldnt do it when i was there as the tube wouldnt go in my cervix so i had to then go under a general and get it done which was $6.5k privately!
Mytubes were all good, all they found was my cervix was extremely tight and some scarring which they removed. (have had abnormal cells lasered about 4 times when younger). i have pcos aswell hence the clomid. So back on the unexplained list really. then we did iui and got our DD after 2 IUI's thankfully. snap, we are up to 16 cycles now ttc no.2 and yeah it does your head in eh, as if we did conceived before how come it is so hard again! i hate the fact that unexplained infertility means thousands of dollars aswell as the emotional stress. and everyone says, you never know it may happen easily after the first one as your body knows what to do - yeah righto! we spent $10 k to get our precious DD, and will prob do 3 IUI's but can't really afford IVF :( so im not sure what we will do if it comes to that? DH has a son already who is 9 so i don't think he will want to loan the money since we have our DD? Oh how frustrating for you! I'm not sure where we will get the $ for IVF either but I really really really want more children. Always wanted 4 but now I'd be happy if I could just have one more. I guess if your cervix is tight, the IUI would overcome that. The worst thing about unexplained infertility is that you have to go through all the tick boxes and spend copious amounts of money while the docs guess at whats going on. At least if you had a major problem that they new about, they can get a plan of action into place.

Jmac, Appt is just a review, this is the 5th DI since mc and we didnt see the FS after that so I guess its about time. We wont do IVF again, We tried that with DF swimmers and it didnt work, thats how we ended up using a donor. I think the next step will be to put me on Clomaphine and see how we go with that. Im scared of twins though so not too keen. I've not had a m/c so I don't fully understand someone in your situation but I vaguely remember reading on someone's post on OB that you sometimes need a D&C to clean your insides out after a m/c because sometimes stuff gets left behind and so future eggs find it hard to stick. Wow that was a goof FS appt! Actually walked out of there feeling positive and happy about the way things are going. He doesnt think that there is any point looking into my "bits" as he thinks they will all be working fine, the BT show that my levels are all good, so it is really just a matter of playing the numbers game, and as he put it out of 8 DI's I have one healthy boy, 1 fetal heart beat seen on scan, and 1 chemical pregnancy so they are pretty good odds for it working. We did talk about clomaphine, but he is happy for me to go another 2-3 rounds without it which is great as that is how DF and I were feeling anyway. Was really nice to walk out of there feeling positive and happy about the way things are going. I have the script for pills and I can fill it when ever I like, YAY! well my AF finally came today and I heard back from the FS and they wont let me increase the clomid. so easy for them to say we only need 1 good egg, i want to optimise my chances thanks and we are the ones paying for it. ggrrrrr I have shifted my focus from feeling sorry for myself lol, started a new diet today, cutting out coffee and looking forward to our trip away in 1 month today. Hi girls
Just wanting some advice..... I have done 8 cycles on clomiphene and 3 IUI's - one of which was successful but we mc. I haven't been on meds since about Sept/Oct last year and have managed to OV on my own but my cycles have been creeping up and now getting up to 50 day cycles, sigh. So im thinking I should go back on the clomid or do another IUI.... my thinking is the IUI worked first go last time so maybe it will again? But should I do just a straight clomid cycle before hand to get me regulated again... hmmm, decisions. Just getting tired of waiting if you know what I mean - does my head in!!!

Hi H4B, Have you discussed it with your doc? I'd be inclined to def go back on it to get your cycle more regulated as 50 days is a long wait! the 2ww is bad enuf! lol There is no harm in doing another IUI at the same time? Good luck!

AFM- half way through the tww, and over it! Going to be a long weekend! DF is away car racing while Im left at home with wee man. And to make matters worse the 1 thing i asked him to do before he left he didnt do! So Now I have to go and bust my gut getting the bloody firewood in and chopping it!!! So much for not over doing it!!!!!!!

Grrrr.... Caronz.... that is so frustrating! Men huh!!!!!! I think though if you traded in your one, you'd get another with a whole set of (different) problems It's a shame men aren't as perfect as us hehe. And it's not going to be a warm long weekend in Auckland either so you'll need that firewood!
I've changed my BT to Wednesday next week as I'm sure I ov'd either Tues or Wed and not Monday like FA thought I would as I had no symptoms until Tues afternoon/Wednesday. Have no preggie signs now either so I guess it's on to IUI #2 next cycle. When is AF due KOS? I think we get to know our bodies pretty well doing this month after month. Hi Caronz, my cycles vary each month by a few days so assuming I ov'd when I think I did, AF will be due Tues/Wed but I'm on progesterone so it won't turn up until I stop taking Progesterone.

I am getting so over this its not funny! Every month another part of my heart gets ripped out, and the wedge between DF and I seams to get bigger. I really cant decide if I want to take clomid or not, I have the script, I think I want to go it alone one more time, but Im not sure how much more of this i can take. Big hugs to you caronz, I know how truly devastating this journey can be at times .
I'd take the clomid and try something new if it was me, it may increase your chances a little? anything is worth a try? KOS, sorry your poas came back bfn, but it's not all over yet hun, hang in there! AFM, did more bloods yesterday and estrogen still on the low side, so doing the LH testing each morning and probably a scan tomorrow to see what size the follies are if the LH is still negative tomorrow morning, it wont prob be til thur/fri that we do IUI? possibly tomorrow but i dont think so, im not feeling any ovulation pain so id say they are still not big enuf yet. stupid waiting game. grrr. dont want it any later than friday or in two weeks time when we go away on our trip i wont know if i am or not, so will be thinking about that rather than just relaxing and enjoying our trip. oh well, my body is going to do what it is doing to do i guess! ------------- TTC 19 mths-PCOS Clom,Lap & HSG Nov 08 IUI feb 09 BFN IUI Mar 09 BFP!! Hope you're doing much better today Caronz. There is only about a 5% chance (I think) of having multiples on clomid so don't panic about it too much. I've had 4 follies at once and non have taken so chances of me even having 1 bean stick is slim! I know what you mean about wasting a year feeling sorry for yourself. This is the first month that I've just got on with life and not symptom spotted every minute of the day in the tww - and it's been way better! I wish I could get into that mindset KOS, It sadens me to think that I am so wraped up in myself that I am not enjoying DS as much as I should be. Im trying to think of ways that I can do more with him but its hard when I feel so down.

Hi ladies,
well had my scan and still on the go slow! grrr. Day 15 today and i have several follies, only 1 dominant one tho at 16mm, the others are under 10 so wont amount to anything. my lining was 9.5cm so that is really good. they took bloods (well tried) to check my estrogen and make a plan this avo. prob lh test the next few mornings and scan friday? and maybe trigger shot? and iui saturday? (DH is on a course all weekend just to complicate things so ill have to whip his contribution in real early before he goes). the FS had 2 attempts at bloods, (im a problem vein girl and have it out of my hands) poor right hand had 3 holes already from 3 tests since friday! so it wouldnt comply, they then attempted my arm (def no luck there, hasnt been in 38 years so dont know why they thort it would change) then i had to go to medlab for them to attempt my left hand and finally after running it under hot water we had success. needless to say blood tests are my least favourite thing!! I just got my hcg bt back... surprise surprise it was a bfn (which I new 'cause I just didn't feel utd). So am stopping the progesterone today so hopefully CD1 will be Saturday so I can get going with my IUI #2. Just got back from a herbalist .... they don't come cheap! I left with a bag full of concoctions - at this point in time, I'm ready to give anything a try! So I have 2 more IUI's and then I'm moving straight on to IVF in Aug/Sept - I'm sick of waiting so have decided to go full steam ahead with no messing about!
