Hi Everyone,
I would be interested to hear people's opinions who have had to go through this themselves. We are tossing up between trying IUI or going straight to a private IVF cycle. My FS said that the hit rate for IUI is only 10-15% which seems incredibly low seeing it costs around $1300 and she recommended we have up to three cycles. Otherwise we could go straight to IVF with a 50% hit rate at around $10,000.
I guess I'm just interested to know how others feel, is it worth giving IUI a go when if we are unsuccessful x3 it may cost us around half an IVF cycle? We have been put on the public IVF waiting list as well but it sounds like I shouldn't muck around as I have a low ovarian reserve.
Thanks

Is your low ovarian reserve the reason you need IVF or is there something else?
We went straight to IVF because we had MFI - no point trying IUI when there isn't enough sperm.
I think IUI is often tried when the cause of infertility is unknown. If it is known you often have a better shot with IVF.

It's just the low ovarian reserve but that doesn't really explain our fertility issue, more just means that we need to speed things along a bit! I conceived naturally on clomiphene at the end of last year but miscarried so it could happen again naturally I guess but the FS said because I have had another 5 cycles since and it hasn't happened, the likelihood is lower.

Hi Hun,
I know you wanted to hear from people that have gone through it themselves, and I have'nt but I thought I could share a friends story.
They have been trying for 4 years to have there first baby and had all the tests but seemed to be no reason except maybe some slight endo. She concived natrally once but MC. So she knew she could get preg. There infertily was unknown?
They had IUI and first try got BFP! She is now in her 2nd tri, and of course wished she had done it years ago! I would try your luck first may save thousands wish you the best of luck and hoping we both get our BFP very soon x

I have PCOS and after 8 rounds of clomiphene and no BFP we tried IUI - we thought it was the lesser amount to pay and 15% chance was still more than we were having!! We were also put on the public funding waitlist so felt good knowing we were doing something in the interim.
We got UTD on our first attempt however we mc. We did 2 more goes of it however no success. So now for us its IVF and fortunately our funding has come through so if anything it helped speed up a slow process (the waiting that is).
Good luck :)
