Okay, it's time that you guys had a thread! I'm sneaking in to do it, since I am an October Mum too - it's just my October baby was born on the 15th of October 1995....
Here's hoping you're all in here joining me with your newer offspring soon.

I was going to start one this morning coz I'm sure Vanessa must have had her bubs by now, but these October babies seem to be almost as stubborn as the September lot!

Oh and if mine drag the chain about getting here they might be born on the 15th too, although I'm hoping they don't procrastinate that long given that they're getting a push at 10am on the 14th...

October 14th - Battle of Hastings (1066), Birthday of Katherine Mansfield, E.E Cummings, Roger Moore, Cliff Richard, Ralph Lauren and Usher...that's quite a cool birthday to have.

October 15th - I Love Lucy started screening on US TV, Birthday of Virgil, PG Wodehouse, Mario Puzo, Michel Foucault, Sarah Ferguson and Chris De Burgh.

That's much better than my birthday share person - OJ Simpson!

I'm an October baby. So come on babies lets come out into the world and join the rest of us.

Either sounds like a pretty good birthday to share, especially for a writer like me (Katherine Mansfield and Mario Puzo) but I'm sticking to my hope of not too long a labour and getting them out on the 14th...

Just checking in. Absolutely shattered, the girls are feeding well but my boobs are soooo sore! Seeing the midwife tomorrow, but they seem to be holding their weights ok.

How are the other Oct Mum's doing?

hey fellow october mums!
how is everyone adjusting?
charli is doing well, weighs 7pd 12oz now, was 7'6 when she was born. she likes to snack on and off at night time though which is very frustrating!! usually when i am trying to get myself off to bed the lil minx! midwife has told me what to do to try and get her out of it and so far it seems to be working.
she's sleeping really well, 3.5-4hrs at a time during the day and the same at night. the last couple of nights she slept from 9pm-5am and last night was 8pm-2am-8am so i am very pleased with that!!!

hope everyone is doing ok

Wow Vanessa - NICE going, Charli!  Ella's been a good sleeper too, last few night waking once for a big feed, then an early morning one, but last night I think she started getting her days and nights confused.  Might have to stop her having big sleeps during the days for a while.  I wonder if they can have a growth spurt this early on though?  She was overdue, so maybe this is her 2-week growth spurt already?

I'm starting to heal well from the damage Ella did breastfeeding, thankfully - gotta say I'm soooo grateful for the little invention that is the nipple shield!  I can't imagine feeding 2, Emma!  I was pondering that as Ella fed this morning, thinking 'how on earth would Emma ever reach for her cup of tea while she's feeding those little bubbas'?

I'm thinking this will be a MUCH slower thread than the preggo in October one... we're all too friggin busy and tired now!  Hope everyone is doing great, and enjoying the long weekend, crap weather and all.

Go Charli! Sounds like she is a greedy guts like Mercedes!

Andie - my nipples are killing me! Even expressing hurts, they never get a break! But I remember from last time that it does get easier.

We've had a couple of rough nights, which I think is mostly my fault. I decided to give the girls expressed bottles during the day and the breast at night, but they aren't settling at all after a breast feed and I was being stubborn and refusing to give them a bottle and ended up with Sienna up from 12.30am till 2.30am Mercedes up from 12.30am to 3.30am and then Sienna was up again at 4.30am. So have decided to stick with the bottle full stop at this stage until I see the m/w again tomorrow or Tues and she can give me some advice. At least with the bottle they both feed at the same time, and I can get them up, fed, changed, back to bed and express the next feed all in an hour. It takes closer to 2 if I b/feed.

Emma, I'm going to stop feeling sorry for myself after Ella's awake for 6 hours, feeding for over HALF of them (and grizzling for the rest) marathon that we've just had this avo... reading your post puts things in perspective!!  Hang in there - you grew and carried those babies like a star so I'll bet you'll do a smashing-great job with them now.

Emma, is your mum coming back soon? And is Willie still off work? Do you think you can keep expressing for a few weeks until things settle down (and your nipples have recovered) and then try tandem feeding again? Sounds like you are doing really well and good on you for persevering with the breastfeeding My sis used to get all sorts of jokes about being a cow feeding her two!!

We had a much better night last night. They were both grumpy in the evening, but I got them settled by 10 and they woke to feed at 12.30, 3.45 and 7am so I did get a few hours sleep. They're both gutsing 100ml a feed tho.

Aimee - Mum isn't back till late November, they're in Portugal, but the good thing about that is that I can ring her at 3am when the girls are awake and it's 3pm over there so I'mnot waking her up lol. Willie's back at work, but he has been good, getting up to help with night feeds. But I'd rather he didn't - don't want him falling asleep behind the wheel!

I have a home help nanny starting tomorrow morning, so that should be a help, and I am planning on staying home for the next couple of weeks to try and get a routine sorted.

Oh and I bathed both girls by myself yesterday while Willie was at the markets with Maya. It was a bit of a production - run bath, feed both, undress and bath one, dress her, put her in the bouncer, undress and bath the next one, dress her, feed them both and then back to bed.

It is exciting! I sent Isla's forms away the day after she was born! How long does it take to arrive? Her Poppa won her $100 at the races on Sat and I went to open a bank account for her today to put it in, but have to have her birth certificate first!

Had our 1 week check up with midwife today. All is good, and Isla is back to her birth weight already! Yay! She is sleeping for around 3 hours at a time during the day, feeds for only about 1/2 an hour then settles straight away,..but at night she is awake each time for about 2 hours, then only sleeps for 2 as well. Its really hard to settle her, and she seems to have a lot more wind at night. I wonder if its what im eating during the day that does it?

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Looking forward hearing from Millie and seeing pics, and the rest of the Oct ladies whose babies are due very soon!

Kellz - breastfed babies tend to be more unsettled in the evening because the quality of your milk deteriorates over the course of the day, hence why a lot of babies have "witching hour" in the early evening. I know some babies are affected by what Mum eats, but Maya wasn't (apart from the dairy allergy thing) and the twins haven't so far.

Willie sent their birth cert forms the day after they were born, so Isla's should arrive soon!

Vanessa and Andie - How are Charli and Ella doing?

My girls slept 5 hours last night! They woke for a feed at 2.15am and didn't wake again till 7.15! So I got four hours sleep by the time I had expressed etc. which was awesome!

Sienna hd her kidney scan today too, which wasn't such good news. Her kidney is dilated , and we have to see the paediatrician to discuss having another scan done where they put dye into her kidney and take pictures

Hey Emma,
Wow - four hours sleep all in a row - I'm soooo jealous right now! I've had the scan that Sienna is going to have lots. I first had it as a little person too - and more recently as a really not little person imbetween pregnancies. It doesn't hurt - in fact, the dye is kind of warm. When I first had it back in the dark ages I ended up having blue wee for a day - nowadays you can't tell the difference because they've improved the test. In any case, fingers crossed it all works out well and the results are good.

Thanks Maree. The doctor that did the scan said that in 99% of cases all that is required is a low dose of antibiotics every day until she is 2 or 3, only if it is realy bad will she need surgery and the doctor didn't think Sienna's is. We see the paed again on 6 Nov to schedule the dye test.

Hi!

Emma thanks for the tips about breast milk. I had also wondered if feeding lying down had anything to do with Isla getting more wind at night, cos I was mostly feeding lying down during the night, and always sitting up in the day and she hardly gets wind then. So I tried sitting up at each feed last night, and it made a big difference. She hardly got wind and settled back to sleep a lot easier than previous nights. Wow to the twins sleeping for 5 hours! Thats great! Hope it continues!!
Poor Sienna having t have that scan, hope it goes well and the results are good.

Hope the others are doing well. Looking forward to the last few Oct ladies having their bubs and joining us in here!

I've found giving them tummy time after each feed helps with wind too, just for a minute or two. They crack me up they look like little racing turtles, and Maya gets down there with them too lol.

So cute, Emma!  And I hope Sienna's scan brings good news - big hugs to you both.  And hey, I sooo understand everyone's excitement over the birth certificates!

Little Ella is a real feeder!  She used to settle for a sleep brilliantly, but once this growth spurt hit, that was that and she needs to be fed to sleep... trouble is, she'd much rather feed than sleep!  Yesterday she had a nap in the morning, and that was it until she went down for the night at 8.30!  She did sleep for 5 1/2 hours after that, thankfully, because I was a zombie for her morning feed at 6am today even!  The thing is, she was somewhat underfed from the time her growth spurt started 'till I called my midwife for advice (oh thank God I did!), because to us, it looked like a sleeping problem or reflux or something... she spent so long feeding, we thought she'd definantly had enough and there was nothing left in those boobies to feed her - WRONG!  Ella needed extra time to suckle in order to bring my milk supply up.  So now I have a little baby who can feed, be burped, feed, burp, feed, burp... for 3 hours easily!  Yesterday she did a 5-hour marathon!!!  I've felt completely glued to the couch with a baby glued to my breast, and detest the crap that's on TV!  I'm glad we'll be seeing the midwife again today, so I can get some advice on whether or not Ella's started to snack-feed or is still needing this extra TLC to get her over the hurdle of not being fed extra when she needed it.  It's still such a relief that she's a happy bubba again - when she was too hungry for those couple of days (oh how neglectful!) she was miserable - she's back to herself now.

Anyone else have a baby who only likes to sleep with their head on one side?  I'm swapping sides for Ella so she doesn't end up all mis-shapen, but she manages to turn her head back to her favourite side nearly every time!  I could swear I can see the difference already - oh dear!

Thanks, Jess!  Come to think of it - I have one of those pregnancy pillow wedges - the little one that goes under your tummy when you're lying on your side (a normal pillow is much easier I thought, but heck, I was given it) - that would probably do the trick nicely!

You can also used a rolled up cloth nappy - that's what we used for Maya. I'm lucky tho that my kids have their Daddy's flat-sided heads anyway so it doesn't matter too much how they sleep lol The twins always seem to sleep facing the same direction tho - if Sienna is facing right, Mercedes is too, and the other way around.

Sounds like Ella is doing big growing! Sienna seemed extra hungry last night so I gave her an extra 30mls and they both slept 4 hours. Mercedes was a bit tough to settle when they woke at midnight, but I left her to get on with it and she crashed after about 5 or so minutes. The funny thing is that it doesn't wake Sienna when Mercedes screams and vice versa, they must just be immune to each others noise. Then they slept from 3am till 7am so I was pleased with that too.

Oh and I worked out that I am expressing 1.6 litres of milk a day ! No wonder I am hungry all the time!

Hi everyone!

We have been having a tough time last few days. Poor Isla has Colic. It is good to know that there is a prob tho, cos we were worried that we werent coping with "normal newborn behaviour". She has been awake and unsettled for 8 hours a day, and when she feeds its for no more than 5 mins max at a time before she gets the pain, and cries, pulls her legs up etc. Its so distressing for us not to be able to help her much. She did sleep for 3 hours at a time twice over night last night tho which is great, but i think it was cos she was soo exhausted. The midwife came yesterday and we have started her on Inficol, and she is coming back again on Mon.
Poor DH is worried about going back to work on Mon because of the majorly unsettled nights,..but we have my parents coming down tomorrow to stay for the week, so Mum will help me during the night so he can get some sleep.

Hope everyone else and their bubs are doing well.

Poor Isla! Colic must be awful for her - as well as for you! I hope the Infacol helps her. It's good that you will have your Mum to help you too - Mum's are great!

I just took my girls for their first walk. We took Willie's car for a warrant and while we waited we walked down to the mall and had lunch. The gremlins were absolute angels (must say I am not impressed with the parent rooms at Lynnmall, the only way to heat bottles is a microwave, there isn't even any hot water ) and Maya enjoyed her outing.

The three of them are all buggered now tho - I had to carry all of them in from the car althought it's debatable whether the biggest one was really asleep - I think she just wanted me to carry her

Oh Kellz, big hugs to you - Colic would be so tough on everyone.  Glad you've got some help from your family... take all the help you can get, I'd say!  Hope she grows out of it sooner rather than later.

We do have a dummy, Aimee... tried it on Ella a couple of times but she soon twiggs there's no milk in it, spits it out and it's all over.

Sienna loves the dummy, it's just that every time she falls asleep it falls out and she wakes up and squawks for it, so I gave up on that idea.

LOL at Mercedes, I put her down and she started screaming, she was almost blue in the face, and I thought she would never settle. So I looked at the clock and it was 2.55 and I thought I'd give her 10 minutes then go and pick her up. By 2.58 she was out to it. So much noise, and she fell asleep so quick!

Hi October mums

Yay I have finally got some time to write.

Kellz - I am sorry to hear that Isla has colic - I hope that Inficol helps her.

Last night was the first night that I actually had a relatively good night's sleep. Olivier is fantastic during the day and feeds and sleeps well - usually between 3-4 hours at a time but then at night time he likes to have more regular feeds and will fill his tummy and then cries because he has had too much milk - poor wee mite. I think now though since my milk has come through in the last couple of days he has settled down a little.

Has anyone had really sore nipples? I got hubby to go out and buy nipple shields on Friday and I must say they are fantastic!!!

Well I am going to eat something and have a lie down on the couch before little Ollie wakes up for his next feed.

Hope that everyone is well

I found the nipple shields a lifesaver too, Millie.  They've come right for me in the last couple of days - finally!  But it all blimmin hurts to start with, eh.

It's going well here.  Just need to work on Ella's feeding/sleeping routines - on top of the evening cluster-feed (or in our case, constant feed of 3 - 5 hours!!) she's also taken to cluster-feeding in the morning too, allowing herself time for only one nap during the day (after all, her day is busy now, as it consists of 2 rediculously long cluster-feeds - it's mental!).  I'll have to look into changing this habit - amazing how quickly they form, eh!  Ella's starting to show a bit more of her personality - she's a nosey little social butterfly I think!  Doesn't like being handed around a lot (or maybe it's her mum that doesn't like her being handed about - I just don't let her be passed from person to person, a couple is enough!  Mean, eh!), but she finds it hard to concentrate on feeding when there's people talking away and exciting things happening - keeps straining her head to see (doesn't let go first... ouch!).  I'm enjoying her a little more each day.  I thought I loved her at first, but I've found I'm one of those women who takes time to fall in love with their baby - it's like I knew in my head I loved her from day 1, but it's hitting the heart more now, and that feels great.

Hope you other ladies are doing well... as well as the sleep-deprived can do!!

It's not mean Andie - it's a sanity saver. I learnt the hard way with Maya not to let people wake her up when they came to visit, and now I won't even let them in the babies room if they are sleeping.

Millie - Glad to hear you are settling in with little Olivier. I hope your recovery is going well too.

I'm amazed how different my girls are in personality. Mercedes is much more alert and social, last night she had her first real "awake" time in the bouncer for about half an hour, she just lay there and looked at the toy bar and when she waved her arms around she got a fright to see the toys moving. She's awake in the bouncer again now, has just had a feed and I thought I'd let her play for a while before I put her back down.

Sienna on the otherhand is much more sleepy and content. In the interests of getting them in the same routine she's in her bouncer now too but she's dozing and not interested in the toys at all. Mind you she was awake half the night.

They were gremlins after their 12am feed, Mercedes cried herself to sleep and then Sienna woke about 1.30ish and screamed until I fed them both again at 3.15am. I was hoping they'd be exhausted and I'd get a sleep in, but nope, they were both awake like clock work at 6.30am. Happy days.

Oh and my boobs are so sore from expressing it's not funny. I've bought some nipple shields thjo and we are off to the lactation consultant today to see if we can get these two back on the breast. Although I'm so ouchy atm (I have blisters on my nipples ) that I'd rather hide in the cupboard than feed them...

Lurking..... I hated my in-laws coming over when Andrew was a newborn as they would talk at he tops of their voices just to wake Andrew up as they were there. Now she had children and knows that babies need their sleep. Would wake him up, he would be grumpy then they would leave 5 minutes later leaving us with a grumpy baby GRRRRR . This time around it is going to be no just turning up when you want to and talking loud as you will be kicked out. They know how angry I can get (FIL has expreienced it before) and I don't take nicely to lack of sleep when I haven't caused the problem - well I kinda did, but not extra lack of sleep.

Andie - I'll remember that when we are at Teresa's house then.

Ouch - I just saw the lactation consultant and even she wouldn't touch my horrible nipples. And to make things even more exciting the girls and I all have thrush. Yay for us. She wants me to let my nipples heal for a couple of days, and then spend a day at family centre getting the girls feeding properly.

That's awesome, Shelley!  Long may the good times last.

Ouch bout the thrush, Emma - have you got anything to treat it with?

Little Ella's still having her one nap for the day before the evening feeding frenzy starts up... normally we'd be a couple of hours into it my now but are so behind today and I was just too tired to wake her from this sleep, so figured she'd be needing the sleep even more than I was!

Shelley - glad to hear things are going so well for you and little Lily.

Andie - I hope you got some sleep last night!

My two woke 3-4 hourly which was nice after the screaming session the night before. I have to rub gel on their gums for the thrush and Sienna is so funny, she opens her mouth and lets me do it until the taste hits her and then she screams. Mercedes just doesn't like to open her mouth for anything except a teat.

They've both had a long awake period this morning, just happy to lie in the bouncer and watch the world.

And I'm actually starting to feel human again. While the nanny was here this morning I went and had my hair cut and colored (after 9 mths of not being able to cut it it was in desperate need) and got my eyebrows waxed. So now I don't look quite so much like something the cat dragged in. If only there was a miracle cure for the bags under the eyes

Just leaping on here quickly!!

Our gorgeous baby GIRL was born on the 27th. Her name is Kaia, no second name yet... still deciding!

Had a hospital birth, still got my water birth without drugs! She was born at 10.10am at 9 lbs 12.

So far, we are doing well! After a rough first couple of days struggling to feed her we are getting better! Cannot believe how besotted I am! (and secretly very pleased she is a girl!!)

Hope everyone else is doing well!!

Congrats on doing so well with your beauties Emma!

Kellz - Wee babes are hard enough without throwing colic in there as well... I hope you are both ok.

Andie, I totally relate to babies that don't wanna be handed round, Quinn was like that. Have no idea how kaia would feel about it as my rule this time is that I am not waking her or picking her up for anyone! I learnt that last time! Hope she sleeps well for you now.

Millie - I feel your pain re sore nipples!! I forgot how much breastfeeding can hurt! I am recovering from bleeding and blistered nipples now... Midwife gave me some FANTASTIC cream if anyone is interested! Good if you have damaged nipples (whereas purelan is good if you haven't any damage, so she says!), it is called Wizard cream by www.livingessence.co.nz. I absolutely recommend it!

Congrats on your wee girl Shelley, Lily is a gorgeous name!

Congrats Anna and welcome baby Kaia! I must try that nipple cream, one of mine is almost coming off

And congrats Danni-chick and welcome baby James! My gremlins were due in November too, but the October Mums are a nice lot...

The midwife just came and weighed the gremlins and Mercedes is now 3670g and Sienna is 3480g so they are both gaining weight well. Mercedes has a chubby little face too.

He's gorgeous, Angel - and what a cutie of a big sis he's got too!  What are you eating to make such fantastic milk for him?!?  Our wee Ella as put on 300gms (which I'm stoked with as it all happened over the last week or so) & she's 3 weeks old.  700gms is amazing!  I've just started drinking Weleda Nursing Tea and taking Blessed Thistle supplements to get a bit more milk flowing.  We'll see.

Hope that cream works well for you Emma - it all sounds pretty blimmin painful for now.

I dont think it has anything to do with what Im eating - its the amount Im drinking! I am *always* thirsty, and as a result I have plenty of milk for him. It took my daughter 2 weeks just to get back to her birthweight, and it would seem Toby didnt loose any weight - +300g in his first week

That's so cool, Shelley - good stuff!

Hey I was wondering, since y'all have babies around Ella's age...  How long do they sleep for during the day?  I won't go into the drama that is Ella's feeding habits since I've bleated about it before, but I'm thinking of waking her during the day for feeds (if they're more frequent, they mightn't be marathon-feeds), as she usually has long sleeps - often 3 or 4 hours during the day.  I won't be waking my little angel during the nights though - I LOVE those decent sleeps and am glad she wakes once overnight most nights.

Hey everyone well james put on 140gms in his 1st 5 days which he just put on the right amount for the midwife to be happy with and said he will be a nice lean bubba.

Well my 1st week went pretty good I've got him into a routine feeding him every three hours and on demand during the nite. which he wakes either once or twice during the nite depending on what time a finally get him down, he also has got rid of his jaundice.

Well I hope everything is goin well with everyone and their bubbas and that were all getting plenty of rest.

I'm about to post a long post about our latest drama (when it rains it pours here ) but we are all home again now, the girls are quite unsettled and Mercedes has a dreaded dummy but at least she is quiet now.

Andie - I wake them 3 hourly during the day (3 hours from start of last feed so say 10am then 1pm then 4pm etc.) then leave them at night. They still wake 3 hourly, but with Maya the night feeds gradually got more stretched out as she got older and by 7 weeks she was sleeping thru so fingers crossed!

Hi Everyone
Really great to read everyones news after a week of not checking this site!
Great to hear about all your wee bubbies.
I have posted a seperate post about Oliver's arrival.
He has been so much more settled in the last few days and is mostly sleeping for three hours (roughly) during the day and then at night having two feeds one around 11 pm and one around 3 ish. Is waking up about 6 am. I am making sure I sleep once during the day while he is asleep.
My nipples are VERY sore!! I also brought some of the nipple shields and they help a bit thankfully!

Congrats again Katie!

How are all the other October babies doing?

Reflux is kicking my poor little Mercedes butt, yesterday she screamed her way thru all her feeds and was obviously in so much pain. So I have decided to do the dairy free thing like I was supposed to as the doc at the hospital thinks it is probably making the reflux worse. We started her on the Neocate prescription formula just for 24 hours to let the dairy clear my system, and the first two feeds were the same as the breastfeeds with the screaming, but by her 10pm feed the screaming had settled right down, she fed really well and then slept until 2am so the formula has obviously helped settle the reflux. I'll start her back on the breastmilk tomorrow morning. Much as I hate dummies the sucking seems to help her settle so I've given her one.

Sienna on the other hand is fine, she has spent the entire time in her cot figuring out how to get her arms out of her wrap, so I didn't bother wrapping her this morning and she settled fine. I guess they're just totally different people that look the same.

We're seeing the paed this afternoon to schedule Sienna's kidney test, and I'm going to talk to him about starting Mercedes on Losec for the reflux as well.

Hi everyone!

Congrats Katie! Was good to read your birth story. I must do mine! Still trying to process it all really,..and wondering what to include and what to leave out so I dont scare those yet to have their bubs!

Emma, I hope the dairy free diet helps Mercedes soon, and that your appt with the Paed goes well. Do u find it hard having to do the dairy free thing?

Isla's colic has settled down a lot with the Inficol. She had a good week last week sleeping for up to 3 hours at a time, but has been very unsettled again since Sat, not sleeping for much more than an hour at a time, day and night. Saw midwife this am, and she thinks Isla is having a growth spurt. She hasnt been screaming with the colic pain much at all in the last week, so I thought it might be a growth spurt too. Got a shock at how much weight she has put on tho! In the last 6 days she has put on 420gms (nearly a pound) and is now 4.45kg (9lb 13)!

Hope the other Oct mums and bubs are doing good

High everyone glad to hear everything seems to moving along relatively easy and that we are all working out what is upsetting our little ones, good jobs everyone.

On saturday since it was so hot in christchurch bubs over heated a little bit so with worked out how to dress him now if its going to to be over 20 we are going to put him in rompers/just siglets fore the very hot days and if its under 20 we are going to put him in stretch in grows it was a bit scary for me when he over heated but I'm glad I worked it out just have to remeber its all learning curves as I have never done this before. I just hope we don't have to many days in the 30's this summer as it gets rather hot down here sometimes.

He also has been unsettle the last couple of days due to a growth spurt but has settled back to his routine today which is good and we all seem to be getting enough sleep which is good.

Isla overheated in the weekend too Danni! I felt bad too cos I thought I had dressed her appropriatley in just one long sleeve long leg romper thingy, but when we got her out of her car seat she was all hot and red and sweaty. The weather is so changeable too that I find it hard to know what to dress her in.

Hi ladies! lol no one prob remembers me, because i went awol, but my baby girl arrived 26 Oct at 1.01asm, weighing 8lb4oz, 51cm long & head circ of 37cm. I had an emergency c/s after 2 days of failed induction attempts.... my waters broke the nite before an elective c/s, and there was meconium present, so i opted for a c/s asap, because of the risk of fetal distress.

Gabrielle Jayda-Lee (Gaby} is now 9lb1oz lol, she put on 310g in 5 days! Got m/w tomorrow so be interesting to see how much she weighs!

Hi Emma! Congratulations! Gaby is gorgeous! Good to have u back! I was thinking about u when it was our due date, and when we were both overdue, wondering how u were getting on! LOL yea by the time I got to a week overdue, i was beginning to wonder if she would ever arrive!

They tried to induce me for two days.... didn't work... so decided to have elective c/s on the thursday morning (tue/wed induction)... Wednesday night at 5.30 I lost my plug, 9.30 my waters broke & 1.01am Thursday Gaby was born via c/s.... it all happened pretty fast once it started. I had awful prostin pains from the prostin gel they used for the (attempted!) inductions... I felt like i was dying - and i wasn't even IN labour!... LOL

Congrats Emma and Suzi, and welcome new bubs! Emma, my gremlins have those same Linkadoos rockers, they are so good!

We spent the day at Family Centre, successfully breastfed both gremlins once But the second time we tried it was too painful as I still have thrush, and the Plunket nurse thinks I also have an infection in my nipple where they got cracked so I have to have some swabs done, and we're going back to Family Centre next Tues for another go. I did get a couple of hours sleep there tho!

Suzi and Emma - very cute pictures of your gorgeous bubbas!  Congrats, both of you,  Great to hear about your arrivals.

Well, Ella has just had her 3rd feed in a row where I didn't feed (and feed and feed) her to sleep.  A pacifier got her off to the land of nod the first 2 times (after a decent cry), and this morning it only worked temporarily but when I got her up for a cuddle she calmed down and drifted off.  I've well and truely had enough of the 5-hour-long feeds and having absolutely no routine and not being able to even post the mail if I want, so I'm gritting my teeth and bearing it for the next few days while little Ella gets re-trained.  A healthier routine will give her more quality playtime too - I realised she's so busy feeding and too exhausted from staying awake so long she doesn't even get a decent play each day!  I've e-mailed Oh Baby's sleep expert too and can't wait to hear back from her.  I'm also keen to see how much she weighs tomorrow - she's outgrown a fair few clothes!

thanks for all the comments about Gaby... makes me feel all good inside, that others think she's cute ;) hehe.. I've just entered her in the baby of the week competition.. I couldn't help myself!

Gaby was up again once last night, but had a bit of a grizzle session between 9.30pm-midnight... little monkey. She's just laaxing out on the couch right now, on her cushion (i forget what they are called, but they are kind of a horse shoe shape, and she LOVES it!)

Got midwife in a couple of hours, be good to see how Gaby is progressing!

Hi all!

Well I hope we all manage to get some decent sleep soon! Good to know Im not the only one who looks like a zoombie tho!

Isla went to sleep at 9.30 pm then was awake for feeds at midnight, 2am, 4am, 5am, 6am,7am grrr then when she went back to sleep I gave up and got up to start the huge ammount of daily washing she generates!

Im glad that her colic has improved loads tho (thanks Infacol!), and the midwife thinks all this snacking is due to a growth spurt! She did have a few bouts of screaming with colic overnight, but they dont last long now,..not the 6 to 8 hours like a few weeks ago thank goodness!

We are starting on a "Baby and You" course at parent centre tomorrow. Its for 2 hours on Thursdays for 4 weeks. Looking forward to getting out! A bit scared tho,..will be the first time I have driven since I had bubs, and the first time out alone with her too. A few people from our antenatal class will be there with their bubs too, so will be good to see them and meet there babies!

Have a good day everyone

Kellz, you have all my sympathies after a night like last night  - far out!  I was nervous about driving with Ella for the first time too.  Actually, I've only taken her out in the car by myself once so far!  Apart from that, any trips out have been to places within easy stroller-reach.  I really need some more bibs and flannels though so am hoping to get her out in the car again today.

Man, am I glad I e-mailed Louise the sleep expert - lots of advice and it seems like pretty good stuff too!  I'd recommend it to anyone struggling with sleeping patterns.  Plunket were helpful today as well.  I'm quite excited about getting into a decent feed-play-sleep routine.  Seems like the other October mums are already there... how's it working for you all?

We're trying! Feedind 3 hourly during the day and still hoping for a longer stretch at night...

Kellz - glad to hear Isla's colic is improving, it's so hard when they arein pain and there's nothing you can do for them

Andie - Glad Louise could help, she's great isn't she! How is the expressing thing going?

Poor old Mercedes, I just went to check on her and she was hiccuping in her sleep and with every hiccup milk dribbled out of her mouth. She is so miserable. I gave her a bath and got a few smiles tho which was nice (and nice to get rid of the sour milk reflux smell too!).

Sienna is happy as, I feel a bit torn between the two of them. On the one hand I have a baby I love because she is so easy and happy and on the other hand a baby I love because she's sick and needs lots of love and cuddles, so it's a bit of a tug of war.

Oh and then I have Maya who is still my number one girl...

Do u think trying to get Isla into a routine is too much to ask just yet cos of her colic? We are very lucky if she sleeps 3 hours at a time day or night even once every few days,..she hasnt slept that long since Sat evening
If there is something I can do,..or am doing wrong I would love to know! When she wakes I feed her, then when she wont take anymore or starts to fall asleep (there is a bunch of winding/feeding/winding/feeding before this) , I change her, and that usually wakes her enough that she feeds a bit more. She only settles to sleep when upright (ie- on us), or on her tummy ( which we can only do when we are watching her- ie not at night).

It sounds like you are doing everything right. I put mine down awake and they cry themselves to sleep (except when Mercedes is refluxy, it's a different cry so I can tell) but thats a personal choice thing, I know some people choose not to let their babies cry which is all good too. It usually only takes them 4-5 mins before they fall asleep, but I always make sure they are winded etc first.

I get James up at 9am and feed him every 3hours till 9 at nite, then i just feed him when he wakes up which is twice. My feeding routine during the day is one side 1st change nappy give him a play for about 10min on back and tummy he likes is tummy more then other side.

If he's awake when i put him down i jst let him put himself to sleep if hes a little upset i just rock the bassinet a little bit then he falls asleep.

Sometimes however especially at is last feed for the day he normally feeds for longer i just go with the flow as their not much else I can do as long as he's happy I'm happy.

I don't know about you guys but I hate it when I first go to bed because I'm scared that when I'm asleep I wont tell if he's ok or not the whole SID's thing really scares me I just keep getting up and checking he's breathing before I fall asleep once that happens I'm out to it until he wakes again.
