So I was shocked to find out that I am eligible for a childcare subsidy for the kids whilst I'm doing my training next year!

Does anyone else get a sub for kids whilst studying? They werent very helpful with telling me what I'll get etc! I'd love to know having never been able to get subsidies for anything before! LOL (except normal 20 hours free ECE). Its normal childcare costs too, not OSCAR (no idea what that is anyway!)

OSCAR is after school care.

I get $3.84 per hour per child as a subsidy while studying. I have been doing two papers a semester so including travel time etc I was eligible for 24 hours per week. I only get this from February to early November which is the University study year. For December and January it drops down to 9 hours subsidy. You can still claim the subsidy on top of the 20 hours ECE so I was getting 20 hours ECE for my 4 year old plus $3.84 per hour for the extra four hours. It really makes a difference. I think I pay $55 per week for my 2.5 year old and $9 per week for my 4 year old for 24 hours of care.

Well, my hubby is studying and we do. I didn't really know they existed, so was pleasantly surprised when I found out they did!

One thing we've had real hassles with, though, is his scholarship (he's a PhD student and on a decent scholarship, enough for us to live off). WINZ had NO idea how to classify it as the University pays him a lump sum, and he uses some for research expenses and some for living expenses. In the end, they told me I had to front up with proof of everything that wasn't living expenses, and if they agreed they would ignore that section. So I put in hours of work (no exaggeration) going through our accounts working out what was what, because I like to be honest about these things not just take a stab. I fronted up with that to be told that no, they were just going to classify it all as income I was SUPER unimpressed. Probably not relevant to many people though, you have to be on a good award for it to make much of a difference.

hehe. Will be interesting to see what happens!

I just wish I was eligible for a student allowance or course related costs! I still have course materials (books, uniform etc) to pay for which comes in over $500, but because it's distance you don't get anything. My sister who's doing the same course, gets to continue her benefit whilst on it, but I get nothing.

I don't understand why you're not entitled to course related costs...??? All of my study has been extramural, and I have always qualified for CRC?

It depends on what your household income is. There is some information on it http://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/newsroom/factsheets/future-focus/childcare-assistance.html - here (bottom of the page).

I want to study part-time next year, and my main barrier is childcare costs, but as usual we miss out on any assistance.

Hopes - just thought I'd mention that I have a friend in exactly that position (substantial PhD schol), and after much pushing she has managed to get it all or most classified under study expenses so she still gets subsidies etc...but it sounds like you've already tried that.

That sucks MissAngel. So annoying when they're inconsistent.

Hello. This is very important when you have a child or when you are a student and you have no money to take out a loan. This helps you stay afloat and make the right payments on time. I recently found a good https://payday-loans-cash-advance.net/PA/" rel="nofollow - payday loans in pa and this site helps me when ordering cash from me. Now I often take money here when I need it. Where do you get loans?
